Why is there foam in my wife's in-cabin air filter?

View 3 RepliesSo I decided to clean my VWR intake filter for the first time yesterday. The recommended mileage is every 20,000 miles and I decided to clean it after 18,000 just to be safe. After using the recommended ITG cleaner the filter started to flake off and fall apart. It's not totally deteriorated but it has lost a good amount of foam leaving me with a smaller, malformed filter. For one of the most expensive intakes on the market I did not expect this.
View 21 RepliesI pulled my air filter for inspection last weekend. The 6.7L airbox is segmented into two parts - One part is very large and contains the pleated paper air filter, as well as the air intake in the base. The other part is small and contains a half-section of the pleated filter, with a fine foam filter below. However, the foam extends out through a sizable hole in the bottom of the small compartment and runs down outside of the box nearly to the base of the entire air box (held on by some plastic straps).
What is the purpose of the foam and "secondary" air intake? Why not simply use one compartment with the paper air filter?
I'm attempting to change the A/C cabin filter on my 2013 LS. I've followed the instructions explicitly including setting the A/C function to recirculate mode.
However, when I get to removing the filter case I press on the 2 tabs as indicated in the instructions and try as I might the case doesn't move.
Am I missing something? Is there a specific knack to this?
Looking for info on how to replace the cabin air filter in my 2013 es300h !
View 7 RepliesI just recently replaced the cabin filter on my 2012 rx350 and now the A/C doesn't work. I checked under the hood and the compressor doesn't kick in. What caused it? Or should I take it to the dealership to have it checked out? It only has about 20,000 miles too..
View 6 RepliesHow to replace the Cabin Air Filter in 2010 RX350? I read in here that you need to switch to the ReCirc mode but then how to remove the shelves in the glove compartment? I almost broke it another the day but still can't take it apart.
View 14 RepliesI am having a problem in changing the cabin air filter in a 2011 RX450h. I can remove the shelve in the glove compartment, but can not remove the L shaped cover plate to the filter. What is the correct procedure to remove the cover plate without breaking it?
View 1 RepliesHow do I remove the plastic shelf that is blocking my path to access the cabin air filter? The left side is easily removed by pushing the shelf up but I cannot remove the right side of the shelf.
View 8 RepliesI used to replace my LS430 cabin air filter myself. Now I have a 2012 LS460, and they have made the hatch door in the glove box motorized. I know to open the hatch, it has something to do with depressing the Fan button on the dash. But I don't know exactly what to press, if car should be running, or ignition simply On but not running, etc. What is the exact procedure that opens the little hatch in the glove box so I can replace the filter ? (And my primary reason for wanting to bring it to dealer is simply that it took me 5 minutes to do it on my LS430, vs MUCH longer to go to my dealer.)
View 10 RepliesMy a/c recently is not blowing the same amount of air thru the cabin. Thought it was the cabin air filter because I was recently in some really dusty conditions. The compressor under the hood (and both lines) run very cold, but cabin blows cold air just low volume compared to before my dusty trip. Am told the 2004 does not have a cabin air filter. If that is true how and where is the air filtered or input? Think something is restricting my air flow causing me problems.
View 8 RepliesMy 04 Elantra GT hatch is my lifetime favorite car. Especially like the rear seats that fold flat. It has 104k miles, but I want to keep it going.
Day before yesterday the blower started making loud noises. I took car back to Pepboys who replaced the cabin air filter they put in a month ago. They had installed it incorrectly, and it shredded with a 6 inch hole in the middle, and paper everywhere. When I left, the fan was not making any unusual noises.
Yesterday I drove 20 minutes on freeway, stopped to shop, started driving, and turned on fan. Immediately the check light went on. Back to Pepboys, service manager said check was P0501 and was a transmission speed sensor that couldn't be related to the filter mess.
Last night I found the Hyundai forum and I read in a post that this is a wheel speed sensor that would be located in the right front wheel and well not far from the cabin filter. Is it possible that the debris from the fan/filter collision has affected this speed sensor? Or is this just a very untimely coincidence?
I know nothing about automobiles. What I should do next and thereafter? Is it safe to drive this car as usual until the problem is fixed?
I've never done it, not even sure where it is located.
View 11 RepliesWhere exactly the cabin air filter is located and how to replace it? I bought a filter, It came with an instruction sheet that says the filter is in the passenger side foot well. I pulled off the cover under the dash and the cover on the side of the dash, no filter.
The top of the inside of the glove compartment has an allen wrench on the top of the compartment, (what is that for?) It looks like there are some phillip screws on the top inside of the glove compartment, but I thought I'd seek advice before I tore the entire car apart!
So, I just dropped a bit more money that I wanted to for an oil change at a drive-through place. The tech offered to replace my dirt cabin air filter. I figured that I could do it myself for much less (or even just tap the dirt out of my current one). How to access the filter, and how easy or difficult the process is?
View 17 RepliesI have already seen the post which shows a diagram from the B5. Exactly where the access is. In my car I open the glove box and there is another pull down compartment that holds the manual. Does this compartment need to be removed? If it does how do you do it. I dont see anything that looks like the diagram given.
View 3 RepliesJust purchased a 2012 Prius a few weeks ago. if cabin air filter preinstalled in the new cars?
View 19 RepliesMy cabin filter is getting pretty dirty. I have been looking around at the different types of filters and was wondering. Is there any advantage in replacing the normal paper pleated filter with one that is lined with charcoal? What do you think of filter that is coated with charcoal and baking soda?
View 14 RepliesI had a surprise this morning when I attempted to put in a new Cabin Air Filter. These filters look square at first glance, but are actually rectangular -- about 7-3/4" x 8-3/8" or so.
The issue is that the pleats on the one that came with the car run in a different direction than the one I purchased from my local Toyota dealer.
While the obvious enough solution would be to simply rotate the new filter 90* before putting it into the plastic carrier, this is impossible since the plastic carrier has a divider that runs parallel to the pleats.
