Getting a chirping noise from the engine? It started happening yesterday but quickly went away. Today it's been happening more. It seems to be coming from something that looks like a metal bowl on both sides of the engine. I took it to the dealer once but it wasn't making the noise when it got there so nothing they could do about it. I'll try to get a picture tomorrow when its light outside.
View 14 RepliesThere's been a recent annoyance that's appeared in my '03 SC 430 with 32K miles. I've noticed over the last 3 months that whenever I have the A/C turned on, after a few minutes, a soft chirping sound appears. It sounds very much like a cricket chirp to be exact, kind of high pitched, but continuous. It's even loud enough to hear over my music.
I realized that it came from the A/C because it was gone whenever I turned the A/C off. I initially thought it might be from the belts for the A/C compressor, but I couldn't hear anything from the under the hood with the A/C turned on. I'm thinking it might be something to do with how the coolant flows in the lines, but can't be sure.
I'll probably have it looked at during my next oil change.
Have 33K miles on a 2013 f sport. Great car.
Yesterday I noticed a chirping noise when I had my window down. I could not hear it when it was up. It sounds a bit like the squeal of brake pads, but it's continuous even when not braking (it does change tone with speed, direction and braking). to compound things at times I don't hear it at all.
Could this be brake pads? My front ones are coming due. I thought they only made noise when braking.
I'm having an issue where when the fan is set to the lower fan speeds it will make a high pitched, harmonic chirping noise. I've isolated it to the operation of the fan, so I know it's something to do with the HVAC stuff.

View 10 RepliesSo from reading around a lot, it seems like the chirping is from the belt tensioner or idler pulley. That said, I've not been able to find anything definitive. I tried to do the water bottle squirt test (from Gates' youtube video) and either I did it wrong or the chirp did not go away implying the issue is not the belt. While I was looking in, I could see the tensioner shaking some.
If my tensioner should not be moving, do I just need the pulley or the pulley and the mount?

Chirping gets worse as it heats up. Seems to happen independent of ambient temperature. Purchased a year ago so unsure of the history of part changes.
My car has been making this chirping noise for a couple weeks now, and I can't figure out what is causing it. It's really bothering me.
The noise is sinked in with the rpms. While in neutral or while I have the clutch in, the noise stops. The higher the rpms I'm running, the faster the sound goes. I opened the hood the other day to see if I could figure it out, but all I found out from that is it sounds like it's coming from under the engine cover.
Engine? Maybe a component near it? Maybe it's just the cold weather constricting parts to a smaller size?

Recently, the oil light / shut engine off light came on, and during deceleration, an odd chirping noise was heard.
Oil level is fine. Previous owner claims to have had it changed every 6k with full synthetic. What the culprit might be?
I own a 1999 F-150 V6 4.2 and would like solving what sounds to be a chirping noise coming from the engine. Noise is pretty consistent at which occurs at first startup while in park, drive or reverse and definitely every time I hit the gas from a standstill. The noise is pretty faint but bothers me just enough to where I want to ask the experts. Anyway noise began roughly days after I washed down the motor. I sprayed some degreaser on it and was very careful - making sure to cover the fuse box, alternator and high flow k&n intake air filter.
I stayed away from cables and just used a garden hose. Recently I had the lower idle pulley bearings replaced, serpentine belt and alternator. When I took to Ford for a new belt (it was old) and to inspect the chirping noise, they said # 6 spark plug was loose and that was the reason for the chirp (they called it a ticking noise). First of all how does a spark plug just come loose? They hand tightened it back and I drove the truck for less than a week then the noise was back. Any possibility this sounds like something specific that is wrong? My research says that it could be anything from the belt tensioner to the cam sychronizer to the heat shield around the cat converter.
I just picked up a new Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, 2015. It now has about 1,400km on it and I have recently noticed a very annoying high pitched chirping rattle that is coming from somewhere in the back. I hear it inside of the car with me so I don't think there are any issues with the safety of the vehicle itself.
I notice the noise every time I drive, and more-so when the road is uneven. It sounds like a tin or metal object rattling against something else. I am not sure if the noise is coming from the back seats or the back door panels... or maybe even the tailgate. I have been trying to search similar issues but I don't know what else to do. I have a service appointment scheduled at the dealership next week but it seems that issues like this don't really get resolved because the mechanics can't pinpoint where they are coming from... or they can only offer a temporary fix. I really do not want my back seats or door panels removed so I am trying to pinpoint where the noise is coming from myself before I take it in so I can explain it to the mechanic in more detail...
When I took someone for a ride and he sat in the back seat to try and listen to the noise, it seemed to die down in sound quite a bit so that leads me to believe the seats may be the issue.
I have used this forum to look up everything I've needed to since I bought my 05 F250 FX4 6.0 brand new. I was pulling our brand new camper in 100* heat. I began to hear a clicking from the truck from the engine compartment that would be right by the turbo. My engine started overheating, but I had no smoke (black or white). The engine cooled down after I was done climbing the hills, but I had feathering from by the air cleaner and the clicking/chirping was still present.
I pulled over to let the truck cool and checked my coolant reservoir. While pulling over, I lost accelerator pedal responsiveness. The turbo was also engaging a lot. I pulled over. Put the truck in park, but left it idling. As I was looking around under the hood, the truck died. I have not been able to start it. (This all happened Saturday). The truck is 20 miles from home, and I've been out tinkering every day. Here is what I know:
1) I have 48 volts to the FICM.
2) I have tried to start it early in the morning and in the evening when temperatures were low.
3) When I crank, I do get oil pressure from the instrument cluster.
4) The oil level is at the correct markings on the dip stick.
5) Using my scanguage II, I have verified an IPR reading of 14.8. As I crank, it goes up to 84.7. My ICP reading is all over the place. It always gets to above 500, yet it with the key off - engine off, I get a reading higher than zero. With the key-on I go from 300 to 500 and to over 1000 with out the think even hinting at starting.
6) I have oil in the oil filter housing.
7) I have fuel in the upper fuel filter housing bowl.
8)The batteries and alternator have all passed load testing.
9)I tried to start the truck with the ICP disconnected, and didn't have any luck.
10) I have no codes set or pending.
I am at a loss. I don't want to start throwing $$ at various parts.
I have a 2012 3.5 eco boost. It has 82,000 miles. I just purchased a large travel trailer. That is the first thing I have ever towed. When I was accelerating onto the interstate the engine started making a chirping noise.( not the normal turbo whistle). It went away when the rpms came down, and now every time I accelerate, it makes the same noise around 2000-2500 under load.

The courtesy lights also no longer work (the lights worked last night as I approached the car but not tonight. The locking chirp/beep worked 3 hours ago but not now. Also headlights no longer go out after double clicking lock on either of the 2 fob.)

View 5 RepliesI got home at 12pm, I parked my RCF in the garage. At 10pm I walk into the garage to grab something and I heard a noise, weird noise, what is that? I thought. Sounded like a one of those small air pumps to pump up the tires.
Suddenly I noticed that the noise it was coming from under the RCF trunk. And after 15 seconds stopped.
The care were parked for 10hrs, what it was?
I heard some people reporting fuel pump problems but while the engine is running.
Random popping noises Frm the tires when driving? It doesn't matter what speeds slow, fast randomly hear this POP noise like the car is going over something on the road (no I'm not going over anything)....
View 14 RepliesSeveral times I have gone into my garage to hear a weird noise coming from under the rear of my car, almost sounds like a small air compressor, like one you would plug into the cars power source. If I start the car and immediately turn it off the sound stops, otherwise it will continuously run. The sound does not always present but when it does the car is completely off and the key is not anywhere near it.

RC 350 parked in garage, 40 deg, F, for 4 hours. Happened to walk by and heard noise. Sounded like a quiet, harsh electrical hum are air escaping. Not positive but it seemed like the source was at the rear of the car and not the garage door. Noise stopped before I could trace it further. This was a second occurrence. So far no dead battery or flat tires!
