I went to dinner tonight and on the way home I noticed white smoke, coming from pipes. It's 42 degrees outside. I didn't notice any from any cars I saw beside me. I saw it when I got home. It didn't have any smell to it at all. It just felt warm. My girl friends car was not making any smoke either. I have never seen any during the day when it was warmer out.
View 12 RepliesI have a 2007 Honda Odyssey touring model. Recently I had it serviced at the Honda dealership. In addition to my requested front end alignment and oil and filter change, they talked me into a radiator flush, fuel inj. service, air filter replacements and battery service. I drove the car home after wards even filling up with gas before going home. This drive was about 55 miles. I never noticed any problems. The next day, I left for Montghomery AL towing a trailer with a motorcycle trike on it. We stopped for lunch and continued. The car suddenly started making a grinding noise from engine compartment and suddenly white smoke started coming out from the hood. I immediately pulled over and we got out of the car for fear of fire. This was the first time I had any indication of a problem.
After a short time, I opened the hood to see what was wrong and noticed that the radiator cap was sitting upside down next to opening. I had the vehicle towed to Chattanooga where I was told there was serious damage to the engine. I had them repair it (they were an AAA approved towing and repair shop). I also took pictures of the engine compartment. I went back to the dealership and asked to be reembursed for my expenses and the cost of repairs and the owner refused. He said he didn't believe they left the cap off and since he started out in the service department he didn't believe the car could even go that far without overheating. My question is: Is it possible for a 2007 Honda Odyssey to travel approximately 220 miles over two days before overheating and wrecking the engine if the radiator cap was left off and/or if no fluid was even added and the radiator cap was left off?
Three weeks ago got in the car, started it and it immediately began to vibrate with high revs and white smoke pouring out and would not stop. Turned it off and restarted it with same results. Then I drove it around the block and it finally stopped. This has not occurred since. Took it to dealer and they could find anything wrong, since not any of the warning lights came on during this occurrence.
It is a 2008 LS with just 38,000 miles on it.
About 3 months ago I noticed at times my Heat would blow out cool air. This would happen mostly when I was sitting idle or in traffic in a "stop n go" situation. I did some research and found out that my Coolant was on the low end. I bought the Pink Coolant from the Lexus dealer and filled up.
I checked the levels again a few days later and it was low again. So I topped off again and looked for any puddles underneath the car when sitting, I paid attention to any smells, and looked to see if I was blowing white smoke out of my exhaust. NOTHING! My indicator stays on the middle range and never runs cold or hot.
I topped off after seeing that it was low again and didn't have to put as much in there, but it definitely was low again. It's now been about 2 weeks and it's still at the same spot (near the low indicator) but it doesn't seem like it's getting any lower. I have done more research and I cannot find any issues with the 2008 LS460's having issues with head gaskets or coolant issues.
I recently had my bumper replaced at the Lexus dealer Auto Shop because of a pothole I ran over that dinged it (also bent my rim)....I know this might not have anything to do with it but I thought I would add this tid bit since I didn't notice the issue until I got it back from them! I'm just really at a loss

View 12 RepliesI just purchased an '06 V10 a couple weeks ago. Today, I was about 11miles into my 15mile commute when I noticed A LOT of white smoke coming out of the back. The only time I'd seen smoke like that before was just before my old Ford Explorer caught fire. I immediately pulled over and took a look. White smoke (maybe steam?) was billowing out of the exhaust.
I say steam, because it didn't have the strong diesel smell I would've expected. I decided I couldn't sit there parked by the highway, so I got back in the car, checked warning lights and pulled out. Within 1/2 mile, it was gone. Nothing. No more problems the rest of the way. What this might have been? I have 1100 miles on the vehicle and this is the first time it's happened.
I parked my car last night in front of the house at 11:30pm last night. The car has not been driven since. At around 1pm the next day my car alarm went off and I went to shut it off and noticed very minor misty smoke coming out of the hood by the windshield. I opened the hood and could smell electrical smoke. I could not find any noticeable damage. Checked fuses and relays. Does not seem to be a problem. However when I get close to the fuse and relay panel under the hood I could hear a clicking and very distant occasional hiss sound. I tried to start the car and everything seem to work but when I push the start button nothing. At this point I disconnected the battery. I called lexus and the rep said he had seen this before and indicated that it is probably a ground or something that corroded and shorted out.

Been reading google and getting panicky about white smoke meaning that coolant is leaking and getting burned in the engine.
When you check your coolant reservoir, where between the F and the L is it normally supposed to be when the engine is Hot, or Cold?
I have a ton of white smoke coming from my exhaust pipe only after it ran a long time then is started back up ????

I dont know if both these issues are related, but when i turn on the heat my car shakes really, really bad. Over the summer the ac would never pump out cold air. So i just never turn on the ac/heat
View 2 RepliesI've got this weird problem , it started a month ago. Sometimes I would drive for half a hour, park the car, stop then engine and some white smoke comes out of the hood after a few seconds. But sometimes I can drive the same amount of time, park, stop the engine but no white smoke.
The only time I did notice it happening is when my temperature gauge isn't working properly , sometimes it will give the right reading (which is right on the middle) and while driving it will drop to 0. Also sometimes there is a smell of rubber burning I think (Doing my best here). But I've checked Google for people with my problem but all I read is either people with tail pipes issues or smoke directly in the drivers cabin. My white smoke is only when I kill the engine. There is no smoke coming out of the tail pipe nor in my cabin. Only a rubber burn kind of smell.
Every 2-3 days, intermittently-there is white smoke coming from the tailpipe of my car. The car seems to be sputtering, like it wants to cough, plus there is vibration in the steering wheel. All this happens while the car is idle like at a light. Then on other occassion, I am driving on the freeway and the car seems to sputter even at 45-65 mph, then it just smooths out. No problem.
Today, I was in the parking lot, there was no smoke but some sputtering when I shifted from park to drive. I drive 30-40 minutes to get to work and very afraid my car is going to breakdown. Also, I took my car to Toyota dealership and was told they could not tell me what was wrong with my car and to bring it back when to problem occurs again. I have pretty much "babied" my car, so I guess my car is beginning to reach middle age.

My wife just sent me a text saying she noticed her car (2005 Elantra GT, auto, 140k) making a chugging sound and then saw white smoke coming from under the hood on her way to class.
I'm at work, so I'm trying to pinpoint the problem from my office, but I'm guessing the white smoke is the result of a coolant leak? Bad seal somewhere? What would cause the chugging that's related to a coolant leak? Or maybe it's not coolant-related at all.
I have just bought a Hyundai Azera 2013 28,000 miles on it. The car is under warranty. I notice not a lot but a good amount of white smoke when I start it in the morning. If it is a warm day I don't see the smoke again. But if is cold weather or a rainy day I see while smoke come out at idle continuously, even after the engine is warm ! I have not noticed that with my Camry or Honda CRV anything like this. I am wondering if it is anything to do with GDI engine ?
I took it to the dealer and they said they could not reproduce the problem. They did multi points checks and everything is ok. Also , I have checked the Carfax report. Looks like the previous owner , who leased the car, did not do all required maintenance except oil changes. I bought the car as CPO .
I have a 93 Volvo 850 N/A, there is white smoke coming out of the dipstick tube, not alot but enough, also there's like a white/ yellow foam on the dipstick tube, but the coolant has not changed, so im assuming its not a headgasket. I have cleaned out most of the vacuum lines and flame trap but cant find the pvc valve.

View 12 RepliesAfter changing the PCV valve, I decided to rev the engine to test if it was installed tightly. I noticed the engine was not hot yet, but I still revved the engine to 4000 RPM for about 20 seconds (the most stupid thing I have done), then I saw white smoke coming from the engine. I didn't check if there was smoke out of exhaust pipe. After searching the web, I realized I might have damaged the head gasket.
The car is still drivable, and the temperature was normal during the driving. But I feel really bad since I have killed the engine. So, how much damage I might have possibly done to the engine?
Ok so basically, driving it around at 50ish mph or less and my car is fine but once I reach I-95 no problems yet. After about 10 miles at Interstate speed (on my way to work), I happen to notice an odd sound coming from my engine. It almost sounded like as though an airline plane was starting up. I checked for any warning lights going off; nothing. After about a mile I happen to smell something odd coming from my air vents (I don't have ac so I have my windows down) and then I started seeing a lot of white smoke coming from my air vents and the hood. Freaking out like a bat out of Hades, I immediately pulled over, shortly thereafter a heavy amount of white smoke was coming out even more from the air vents and from the hood so I pulled open the hood to let it escape and left the doors away from the interstate open.
I saw smoke coming from the engine coolant top or whatever it's called and it was coming out so fast and hard it was like making a whistling noise almost. I also saw white smoke coming from almost near the engine towards the back. However, whenever I am on a normal road going 55 or less it's fine. My grandfather says it has something to do with the cooling system or coolant or whatever it was. He doesn't know what would cause the problem or how to fix it... 1988 Ford LTD Crown Victoria LX ....
