While driving to work I did a quick U-turn to avoid a congested left turn lane and when I completed the turn and straightened out, the steering wheel was about 30 degrees off center when driving straight ahead. A few seconds later it slowly centered itself, I'm assuming this was a Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS) fault.

View 14 RepliesToday, I just picked up my 2014 prius. Basically, when I do a right/left turn on the car, when accelerating out of the turn, the steering wheel does not fully return to the center position (its approximately in the one/eleven o'clock position). Also, if I leave the wheel straight, and drive straight, the car will drive straight and not pull towards the side so I don't think its an alignment issue. I'm not sure if this is normal, or if its happening just because they car is new or just because I'm not accelerating hard enough out of the turn (I always stayed in the eco range with the HSI. )

I spoke with Mercedes customer service and they said to get the vehicle aligned. I told them the dealer did a 4 wheel alignment. Why the steering wheel is not properly aligned?

So took it home put a new one on and the steering wheel was crooked which didn't bother me. but after in cranking the torsion bars I noticed how Badly I needed an alignment. So took it back in for an alignment and I cant turn the steering wheel back to center because the tie rods are maxed out. I tried to take the pitman arm back off center the wheel and everything but the key ways just line up the same way. Any chance the after market pitman arm is off or any clues?

The other day I noticed an issue when turning right. The wheel gets hard to turn and does not want to return to center. There is also a low speed clunk you can feel in the steering wheel/column itself.
The truck is at the dealer now and they said the rack needs to be replaced and there is something in the column they need to replace too. I have the extended warranty, so this is all but covered 100%. I just have a deductible to pay.
I have not hit anything with the truck, so I am not sure what caused these issues.
This has happened twice now. I went to turn a tight corner and the power steering just went out. A moment or so later, it came back. Any conjecture?
View 3 RepliesThe steering on my truck has become a little heavy after making a turn and bringing the steering wheel back to center. The steering feels heavy like I had a front tire half way down. There's a lot of drag then once on center it's gone. Could it be the beginning of the end for my ball joints?
View 10 RepliesI own a 2015 LX570 with just 8000 miles on it. Been having an issue with my steering position. Every time im on a straight road the car seems to be pulling to the left side if my steering wheel is placed exactly to the center. At first i thought it was an alignment issue as i took it several times to the dealer and they just tell me that there is nothing wrong with it and it drives accurately straight until one time a guy from the dealer came and checked it himself with me and realized the issue and told me that its not an alignment issue its something related to the the electrical steering position not being accurate (( that's what he said)). They took it in and made it accurate as they say, to be honest its not really accurate but much better than before until last week when it became worse and like how it was before, pulling hard to the left, its like if i want to drive straight i need to pull the steering wheel slightly to the right.

I noticed driving it from the day she bought it with 75K on it, it has a jerk or detent when the steering wheel is brought back to center. On the road it drives me nuts, cause I was gifted at driving a car without tossing the passengers back and forth while going down the hwy and in the twisties. I turn and return, I don't try to crack sniff my way down the road. So the dealer can't feel it, the wife feels it some, and low and behold today, I bumped into a co-worker with the same model/year. She feels it too.
View 5 RepliesLately my 2007 Camry (2.4 L, Auto) has developed a bit strange problem. When I'm driving on highway, even slight left turn results in a grinding noise and sort of resistant steering wheel. It happens only when I turn left. As soon as steering wheel gets back to straight, the noise and steering wheel resistance/hardness goes away. I don't really feel much when I'm driving slow on the city streets. Although some time when I am little bit fast, I feel slight grinding noise and steering hardness. No problem in turning right at all.

View 3 RepliesI have a '07 RX350. My steering wheel recently started having a squeaking noise when you turn it right, or left. This has nothing to do with the motor to extend or retract. You can hear the noise when you turn it ever so slightly back and forth (whether car is running, or not). I have seen other threads that talk about a grommet needing greese between the steering wheel and column, but not enough detail for me to determine what they mean. Also, if that's the case, I am not sure how you get to tha area?
View 4 RepliesWhen you turn off the engine the steering wheel and seats will retract to allow more space for you to exit the car. Side mirrors will fold up. Motion happens in reverse when you sit in the car and start the engine.
Is there a way for me to turn off these auto features to save their motor life?
Don't know how I did it as I don't wear a wedding ring (yes she is ok with it), but I have a deep scratch about a half in long on my wheel. It is right through the clear and deep.
Any thoughts on fixing it? Just want to cover it so it doesn't get any worse.
I just purchased a very clean 2008 with 32K miles on it to replace my 2011 Sonata SE that has a suspension too harsh for my wife's bad back and neck. It was a one owner, driven by a little old lady in Santa Fe, NM. She is no longer able to drive and her husband didn't need to keep the car. This was a private purchase, not dealer/CPO.
During my highway test drive, I noticed a little vibration in the steering wheel above 60 mph but couldn't go much faster since I was in town and there was lots of traffic. I attributed that to nearly 6-year old Bridgestone Turanza tires in pretty poor shape. So right after purchasing I put a set of Michelin Primacy MXV4 on it. I got onto the highway later that day and at about 65 mph, a vibration in the steering wheel shows up. It seems somewhat inconsistent in that if I am accelerating or decelerating, the vibration comes and goes through the 65 - 75 mph range. I have not driven above 75 to see what happens to the vibration.
My girlfriend has a 2007, v6, Honda Accord. She had difficulty turning the steering wheel, accompanied with a loud noise. She took it to a local garage and they diagnosed it as a leak in the power steering hose which she had replaced for about $400. When she used the car the following day, the problem was still there and seemed to be a little worse. She called the garage and they said for her to bring the car back which we'll be doing tomorrow. Also, coincidentally, we saw that Honda issued a recall for this. [URL] ...... As a result, we have the following questions:
-Is there any recourse for full or partial reimbursement from Honday? After all, if we took it to Honda, then Honda dealer would bill Honda Manufacturer anway.
-Should garages be familiar with recalls?
-Assuming the local garage fixes the problem, do you recommend that we still take it to the dealership?
My wife has had her 2008 ES350 for a couple of years and the finish on the steering wheel button have been rubbed away. I have seen where Lexus fixed this for newer models. My question is can I fix this or replace these button rather easily?

View 3 RepliesI have a 2007 Lexus ES 350 ultra that I quite enjoy, it has 182,000 miles on it and as time has gone on it has developed this noise in the steering wheel and steering column that I cannot diagnose, it's a noise that I have posted in a video : [URL] .....
I'm fairly mechanically adept and inclined but I truly don't know what this noise is caused by, it sounds like it is in the steering column itself. Normally I would say it has something to do with suspension but since this happens whether I'm moving or stopped, I think it is just a worn or loose piece but I don't know where or what.
