Steering vibration coming right around 75 to 80 MPH? I have balanced my wheels 3 times to rule out that being the issue. Also the tires are in great shape. At speeds below or above it rolls smooth.
View 14 RepliesAbout month ago I found used lexues es 350, 2008 in one of the dealership and bought it for my daughter . I test drive the car and found the vibration steering on speed 57_65 or .not like real lexues which is smooth. Any way I thought with alignment would be fix. But no luck.
I found another Lexues repair. They said I need to change [B]transmission and motor mount I bought it and after replace same as before.
Some other one told me could be Torque converter. This is really big problem and I can't let her drive the car.
I just noticed a vibration in my steering wheel at idle with the transmission in Drive. Seems like it goes away or gets better as the car warms up.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2010 Lexus Es350, and I am having this issue:
When accelerating hard, the car will aggressively drift to the right. During normal driving it is otherwise fine.
When braking from 60-70mph, I will also get a significant vibration in the steering wheel.
What can be the issue here? I've read possible brake rotor, tire out of balance, alignment?
Are these 2 issues connected?
I just bought a 2008 LS600 Obsidian with Exec package. Happy with the car except for some steering vibration at low speeds when turning. Took it to Newport Lexus...they say..."normal for an AWD LS600".

View 8 Replies2008 ES350 with 170k miles. My wife drives the car almost exclusively but we went on a road trip and I had the opportunity to drive it for a few hours.
I noticed at idle there is a chirping sounds from the belt area like it could be a water pump or another pulley going out.
Other data points:
At speeds over 80mph I feed a vibration in the steering wheel. we are 1k over getting the tires rotated so that may clear this issue up.
low speed in a parking lot I had the wheel at full lock turning and it felt like it "slipped" and it made a noise. This made me think the power steering pump could be what is going out.
I need to check the fluid levels tonight and see if either is leaking ( there is nothing on the garage floor)
Are there any good DIY's for a waterpump or power steering pump replacement? Once I diagnose the problem I would like to fix it myself.
Are these common issues with the ES350?
Since I got my car back from the dealership after changing the rear shock this summer, I can feel a vibration in the car at highway speed. After the shock were replaced the car steering wheel was out of balance and pulling one side. After they attempt to align the car about 5 times it got a little bit better. Then I found out that they had an accident with my car and tried to hide it: [URL] ....
I suspect the tie rod may have been damaged so that could explain the steering issue. It also seems to have gotten worse over time. I'm trying to figure out the possible cause, if directly related to the tie rod damage or indirectly as if the tie rod damage could have caused uneven tire wear and then causing the vibration over time. I've attached some pictures, the 2 first are from the front passenger side, the 2 last from the front driver side. My tire are the Michelin pilot and this thread seems to suggest those tire might be hard to align properly: [URL] ....
I'm due for my winter tire change soon and see if thing gets better, I'll get them balanced too. I'll check at the same time for control arms/shock damage. But still, I would like some feedback and see if those tread wear are normal and hopefully get to the root of the problem (the outer edge on the tire in the back are much less damaged).
I'm new to Lexus ownership and have recently purchased an 08 certified LS 460 L with the air ride suspension. It's a phenomenal car, I'm now a convert to the brand. One small thing I noticed though is a slight jiggle or vibration coming to the steering wheel at moderate speeds. It is very dependent on the road surface, Seems to dissipate on the highway. Alignment was checked before delivery and feels fine and the tires themselves feel balanced. It's not upsetting, I'm just curious if this is something normal to the air ride suspension. Other than this the car is an absolute gem with only 35,000 miles.
View 4 RepliesI recently bought a 08 question Sante fe we just drove it. When it got to 70 to 80 mph i could feel a vibration in the steering wheel. What it could be. I bought it with 56k on it. Put new tires on it cuz the original tires were worn on the inside on the rears.
View 11 RepliesI have 19 inch TSW wheels on my mk6 and since day one it's had a vibration in the steering wheel (5k miles). It happens from 60-70 mph. These wheels were brought over from my 07 GLI, and they never had an issue on that Dub. I just did a wheel balance today thinking it would fix the issue (it didn't), and all the wheel weights are on the wheels as well. I'm dumbfounded as to what it could be. When they did the balance today, they checked for bends in the wheels and bumps on the tires. They said everything was fine. What may be causing this vibration?
View 18 RepliesI have a Santa Fe 2010 2.4 awd 6AT with 20000km, I live in Ushuaia, Argentina, here the use of salt is normal in winter (a lot of salt). I have one winter and the second is coming with this SUV. Today I was in a road at 120km/h (75mph) and I had to apply brakes. In that moment I noted a little vibration on the steering wheel. After release brake pedal, the vibration disappeared. I checked again with same results, is been posible that my brake discs could be damaged or something is wrong with the brake system? I didn't have any light of malfunction. What is the normal life of brakes discs and pads in a santa fe with normal use?
View 13 RepliesI don't know how the story ended with the 07 4WD Avalanche with the unidentifiable noise - he said, "The noise always occurs between 45-60mph (not rpm-related) there is a groaning sound and it is accompanied by a vibration in the steering wheel. it is especially noticeable when going around turns.."He went on to say that he checked the hubs and they were fine, and decided that he would replace the tranny. I sure hope that fixed it.I had the same problem on my 07 4WD Avi, and the hubs checked just fine, smooth as silk, with no loose play at all. But on a 1000+ mile trip just a few days later, the groaning and vibration grew worse, but only when I went around a left curve. I barely made it to my destination - the right hub failed. If it had been groaning and vibrating when turning right, it would've been the left hub. I replaced both at the same time.
View 3 RepliesI have a vibration in my steering wheel between 65-70 MPH. I had my wheels speed balanced with no remedy. Is this connected to the TSB for the "clunk fix"? Or could I have a bad belt in a tire? I figured if it was a bad belt than they would not be able to balance my wheels. I did recently get rear ended mildly, but there was only a scratch on my bumper- The trailer hitch took most of the impact.
View 14 RepliesSo I've read a lot of the threads, especially the write-up by alchemist in reference to a vibration and what to replace. Through a round about way, in the last few weeks I've replaced:
-both CV axles
-font lower control arms with bushings and ball joints
-all 4 struts (KYB) and mounts
-Tires, Michelin Premier A/S road force balanced and vehicle aligned
Brakes/rotors were done about 20k miles ago as well.
Car really rides nice now, but when I get it on the highway, around 75mph I start picking up a slight vibration through the steering wheel. I can also feel it in the car to some extent before 75. It is very consistent, always there regardless of road conditions or day I drive it.
What else this could be. It is driving me nuts and I've spent a lot of time and money to this point with no resolution. The last thing I can think of is possibly the steering rack and tie rods (mine is seeping a bit, 120k on the car, but I check the fluid level regularly and have not added any fluid in 20k miles)
1,200 miles on my gx 460. dealer states, he has balanced all tires, and checked for radial run, at 60-65 miles, my steering wheel shakes.

View 14 RepliesHaven't noticed it before, but now I pay attention to my steering wheel - when the car is stopped on Drive mode I can feel a slight vibration on the steering. Shifting to P mode eliminates is. Is it ok? Do Your steering wheels vibrate when You stop at the traffic lights?
View 10 RepliesI'm not sure if this is normal, but I have noticed a slight vibration in the steering wheel. This happens when the engine is completely warmed up and If I'm sitting at a complete stop in drive (no air conditioning, seat warmers, or headlights on) it happens. It is not a vibration where the idle goes up and down. The rpm gauge shows that it is between a consistent 550-600 rpms. When the headlights or air is on, the idle goes to around 700-750 and the steering wheel vibrations go away. I do not have any cel on and I know the car is not miss firing. I think it's just because the low idle.
View 9 RepliesThe last couple thousand of miles I have spent fighting vibrations (especially in steering wheel. Symptoms: When you hit the 65mph mark I am getting slight vibration in the steering wheel. Also passenger chair start shaking substantially more. I assume the shaking is of the whole car, but I feel it the most through the wheel and probably where my brain focuses on.
So far to correct the problem:
- Dealer replaced couple tires which showed excessive weight (the truck came with Michelin HP)
- Wheels were scratched through not careful person, so they have replaced them with a set from a demo
- Dealer balanced wheels 3+ times and done alignment
- Problem was not going away, so I have decided to try different tires and have bough new Michelin MS2
- Discount Tire has done several wheel balances, but seemed that it worked for a day or so
- Meantime also bolts holding lug nuts broke three times while tightening them (don't know if the same one but at three different occasions). Supposedly they have used spec pressure of 80lbs (83 Lexus recommended)
Dealer concentrates on wheel balancing, and is not taking action outside of this. I told the dealer that the problem cannot be wheel related. I think the cause could be one of the three (previous GX470 issues found on internet):
- Wheel bearing in the hub issue
- Drive shaft
- Transmission excluded as vibs are in all gears
- something with steering.
I am awaiting a call from the dealer when the FTS person will at the dealer again so he can trouble shoot the car.
