Installed aftermarket wheels with thegorilla lock set (20 locks total)? I ask because after installing my wheels, i had slight vibration from 68-75mph (nothing really crazy, but i feel it) and now that i installed the gorilla guard locks for added safety today, i seem to be getting slight vibration at lower speeds (40mph more or less).. could it be due to the wheel guard locks?
View 14 RepliesI'm new to Lexus ownership and have recently purchased an 08 certified LS 460 L with the air ride suspension. It's a phenomenal car, I'm now a convert to the brand. One small thing I noticed though is a slight jiggle or vibration coming to the steering wheel at moderate speeds. It is very dependent on the road surface, Seems to dissipate on the highway. Alignment was checked before delivery and feels fine and the tires themselves feel balanced. It's not upsetting, I'm just curious if this is something normal to the air ride suspension. Other than this the car is an absolute gem with only 35,000 miles.
View 4 RepliesI'm not sure if this is normal, but I have noticed a slight vibration in the steering wheel. This happens when the engine is completely warmed up and If I'm sitting at a complete stop in drive (no air conditioning, seat warmers, or headlights on) it happens. It is not a vibration where the idle goes up and down. The rpm gauge shows that it is between a consistent 550-600 rpms. When the headlights or air is on, the idle goes to around 700-750 and the steering wheel vibrations go away. I do not have any cel on and I know the car is not miss firing. I think it's just because the low idle.
View 9 RepliesThe last couple thousand of miles I have spent fighting vibrations (especially in steering wheel. Symptoms: When you hit the 65mph mark I am getting slight vibration in the steering wheel. Also passenger chair start shaking substantially more. I assume the shaking is of the whole car, but I feel it the most through the wheel and probably where my brain focuses on.
So far to correct the problem:
- Dealer replaced couple tires which showed excessive weight (the truck came with Michelin HP)
- Wheels were scratched through not careful person, so they have replaced them with a set from a demo
- Dealer balanced wheels 3+ times and done alignment
- Problem was not going away, so I have decided to try different tires and have bough new Michelin MS2
- Discount Tire has done several wheel balances, but seemed that it worked for a day or so
- Meantime also bolts holding lug nuts broke three times while tightening them (don't know if the same one but at three different occasions). Supposedly they have used spec pressure of 80lbs (83 Lexus recommended)
Dealer concentrates on wheel balancing, and is not taking action outside of this. I told the dealer that the problem cannot be wheel related. I think the cause could be one of the three (previous GX470 issues found on internet):
- Wheel bearing in the hub issue
- Drive shaft
- Transmission excluded as vibs are in all gears
- something with steering.
I am awaiting a call from the dealer when the FTS person will at the dealer again so he can trouble shoot the car.
I just purchase a new 2012 Lexus LS460 L AWD. Between 35 to 40 MPH I feel a slight vibration in the front end of the car. Once I get above 40 MPH the vibration or wobble goes away. Could it be a tire out of balance? Car was bought new, and currently has 1200 miles on the clock.
View 9 RepliesMy 2010 RX 350 only has 35K miles and I've been feeling that the smoothness in the ride has really deteriorated in the last several months. So much so, that even though I could have squeezed another 5K or so out of my tires, I bought a new set...OEM Michelin Latitude Tour HP. I can't say the ride has improved at all. Today, I brought it to the Lexus dealer for a brake inspection, because I was getting a slight vibration in the wheel when braking. Front brake job was needed. I was given a 2013 RX 350 as a loaner. The ride in that car is so much smoother. Should I be questioning the suspension or some other issue that would improve the ride?
View 7 RepliesI recently purchased a 2009 es in good condition, the tires were quite old and loud and the car pulled to one side. I purchased some primacy's and they are great, however the pulling/poor alignment was still there, I then took it back to the dealership and they rotated the tires which actually worked with the pulling but then there was a slight vibration from about 100-130, by 140 it's gone, but i seldom drive that fast.... I then had the tires re-balanced and the alignment done again, the vibration perhaps lessened but i can still feel it...

View 8 RepliesI bought a 2010 lexus ls460l awd with about 80,00 miles on it and also bought a warranty for 3 year/ 36,000 miles. After having the car for a couple of days i noticed things that I didn't like as well as figured weren't normal, alot of it had to do with noises, the dealer told me they didn't cover noises, and i asked if those noises meant something was wrong then what?? It was mostly squeaks and rattles that I didn't expect to hear in a car of this caliber, going over uneven road there's a constant squeak coming from the front, if its a bump its an extremely hard thump in the rear, and the idle.....is BY FAR the loudest I've ever heard in any car that I've been in.
When I turned the wheel all the way in either direction and pressed the gas, it made a rubbing noise with a harsh vibration, brakes squeak horribly about 2 days out of the week for about an hour then it goes away. When i took it in they said everything was fine except a part on the rear struts and said they needed some special oil for the vibrating rubbing issue. Picked up the car and noticed the vibrating issue was resolved but during the drive home noticed everything else stayed the same.
2008 ES350 with 170k miles. My wife drives the car almost exclusively but we went on a road trip and I had the opportunity to drive it for a few hours.
I noticed at idle there is a chirping sounds from the belt area like it could be a water pump or another pulley going out.
Other data points:
At speeds over 80mph I feed a vibration in the steering wheel. we are 1k over getting the tires rotated so that may clear this issue up.
low speed in a parking lot I had the wheel at full lock turning and it felt like it "slipped" and it made a noise. This made me think the power steering pump could be what is going out.
I need to check the fluid levels tonight and see if either is leaking ( there is nothing on the garage floor)
Are there any good DIY's for a waterpump or power steering pump replacement? Once I diagnose the problem I would like to fix it myself.
Are these common issues with the ES350?
Since I got my car back from the dealership after changing the rear shock this summer, I can feel a vibration in the car at highway speed. After the shock were replaced the car steering wheel was out of balance and pulling one side. After they attempt to align the car about 5 times it got a little bit better. Then I found out that they had an accident with my car and tried to hide it: [URL] ....
I suspect the tie rod may have been damaged so that could explain the steering issue. It also seems to have gotten worse over time. I'm trying to figure out the possible cause, if directly related to the tie rod damage or indirectly as if the tie rod damage could have caused uneven tire wear and then causing the vibration over time. I've attached some pictures, the 2 first are from the front passenger side, the 2 last from the front driver side. My tire are the Michelin pilot and this thread seems to suggest those tire might be hard to align properly: [URL] ....
I'm due for my winter tire change soon and see if thing gets better, I'll get them balanced too. I'll check at the same time for control arms/shock damage. But still, I would like some feedback and see if those tread wear are normal and hopefully get to the root of the problem (the outer edge on the tire in the back are much less damaged).
I put some 10mm hubcentric spacers from Avenue Autosport on the front of my car and got some slight vibration like the wheel wasn't centered very well. I decided to take them off to make sure they were the source of the vibration, and the car seems to ride a bit better/smoother in general without them (and the vibration when away).
I noticed that they didn't fit as tightly as my 15mm ECS spacers that I have in the rear, and my question is: are these spacers crappy in some way and I should order 10mm spacers from ECS, or are spacers in general not a great idea for the front wheels if you want your car to feel perfectly smooth and tight.
I have been experiencing a slight wheel vibration from the rear of my R32? I am thinking about replacing my wheels and tires, (continental sport contact 2 is what I have now) I have heard that the continental tire has an aggressive tread pattern because i get a tire noise above 45 mph.
View 12 RepliesSo I just developed a slight vibration in the steering wheel and the floor last week. It happens when I drive with my foot barely on the gas or coasting. If I punch it, the vibration goes away. Also, if I punch it from a stop and take my foot off the pedal I can hear a knock as the car lurches starting to decelerate and its only one knock. I thought it might be the driver side strut bushing because I recently replaced the passenger side but not the driver. So today I replaced the driver but that did not solve the problem. I have fairly new tires all around. I am not sure if it is tie rods or cv joints. All my boots on the cvs look good. What to check. Oh maybe also motor/trans mounts???

View 1 RepliesSo sometimes (only sometimes, of course) when I step on the brakes, I get a slight vibration of the steering wheel. Doesn't seem to make a difference if it's gentle or not-so-gentle braking. Brakes cold or warm doesn't make a difference either. Nor does traveling in a straight line or not at that moment.
My understanding is that "warped" brake rotors are mostly a myth these days, especially for our beefy/hefty rotors. The car did not used to do this.
Rotors are "OEM slotted" from ECS, pads are Porterfield R4-S. All are well within tolerances. I know it's not an out-of-balance wheel, because wheels were swapped front to back not too long ago and there was no change.
So what else ought I check out? Tie rods/ends? Ball joints? I don't know all that much about this aspect of stuff..
It feels like I am having a front bearing issue, when turning the steering wheel to the right I feel a slight vibration in the steering, need to know which one is going out,??? I have already replaced the passenger side twice It just seems to not tighten completely as I can still move the tire slightly while up on a jack...
View 12 RepliesOver the past month or so my wife and i have noticed a slight vibration or? I don't really know how to best describe it other than a feeling. The truck has developed this feeling thru the steering wheel and pedals. The best way i can describe it is like a bearing going bad?
It is full time awd and I am assuming it is an awd issue. The truck has about 60,000 miles on it. It can be felt at all speeds. I rotated the tires with no change. My next step would be to go thru the front end, ball joints, tie rod ends, etc. But I really don't think the issue is in the steering. the truck drives straight and no steering vibration.
Took delivery of my 2015 GTI a few weeks ago. Overall the car is great, but I have a feeling the tires that came with it just plain suck. They are Pirelli P7 Cinturato A/S. According to Tire Rack, these are grand touring tires?! Not exactly what I'd expect to be put on a GTI. Anyway, I've noticed that at almost exactly between 60mph-70mph there is a "whine" sound coming from them, also just the slightest vibration in the steering wheel. At every other speed they are relatively quiet and the wheel is absolutely dead solid, no vibration. Could these tires just be of relatively poor quality? Should I have them put on a balancing machine to see if everything checks out? I'm assuming these were balanced on a Road Force machine at the factory since that is the OEM for VW/Audi, but I'm not 100% sure obviously.

I'm having one of those moments, you know after you do a mod to your truck and all of a sudden you notice something about your truck that could have been there all along but now you notice it as something new? Ok earlier in the week I had my exhaust resonator removed and replaced with a straight-pipe by a reputable exhaust shop. IMO the work looks to be pretty good for what it is.
That said I have always been nervous about getting exhaust work on any vehicle because it always seems like tampering with or removing the OEM plumbing for aftermarket or custom work tends to develop a vibration at some point.
So here is what I've noticed over the last couple days, when driving my truck it is extremely smooth, almost like glass. When I come to a complete stop say at a traffic light about 1-2 seconds after making the complete stop I feel this slight harmonic vibration in the steering wheel. For those of you that have an iphone it would be like having your phone bolted to the steering shaft somewhere and it on constant vibration if that makes sense.
Just to prove it only happens when I'm sitting still and idling in (D)rive I sat in my driveway with the truck idling, set the park brake and released the brake pedal holding the truck in place in (D)rive with the parking brake. No vibration, smooth as glass engine idle, as soon as I put my foot back on the brake pedal the vibration comes back. It's as if the extra draw of applying the brakes puts an extra load on some sort of accesory drive or componant under the hood and the result is this harmonic vibration.
Just so everyone knows, the vibration is very noticeable to me because I drive the truck daily, most people wouldn't pick it out if I didn't tell them first. Case in point if my wife drives the truck she can't feel it unless I tell her what to look for. There are going to be some of you that just say my truck doesn't do this and has had a smooth idle for XX,XXX miles I believe you but let me know now that I have explained exactly what to look for. Like I said for all I know it's done this since day one.
I have a feeling that the straight pipe might have been welded in slightly longer than the oem section that was removed thus putting more tention on the exhaust and engine if that makes sense, the end result being a slight vibration?? I know that manufactures put these little rubber bushings along the exhaust system on cars/ truck to absorb harmonic vibrations and for all I know my resonator might have been designed to balance out harmonic vibes in the exhaust system as well as quiet down the exhaust.
