I notice when the AC is on, the rpm is around 800 and I can clearly hear the rattle of the compressor. When I switch off the AC, the rpm's drop to 500 and the noise is much reduced. Is this typical for our LS460 models?
View 1 Replies(2008 ES 350) I hear this squealing noise under the hood, I had the AC compressor rebuilt because I was told that was the cause, low and behold it's not, I only hear the noise when the car is in gear, but I don't hear it when in park or when I drive, but it's loud in drive and reverse. The water pump has been replaced too. Where is this coming from?
View 2 RepliesI own a high-mileage (115,000) 2007 RX 350 that has developed a rattle when I travel over 60 mph. I am having a hard time locating it although I'm pretty sure it is in the driver's side door. All molding is secure and pressure applied anywhere on the door does not stop the noise. If I open the door and "shake" it, I do not hear anything loose.
It is a intermittent rattle that oscillates in volume and only when I hit speeds over 60mph. Usually resonates around 70 or 80 mph. It almost sounds like a loose nut vibrating on the window glass inside the door.
On occasion, I have had rattle noise coming from above the radio and behind the nav screen.
View 11 RepliesI kept hearing some noise for quite sometime on rough roads, but never on highways. I thought it is related to suspension and kept complaining to the dealer and they would promptly come back with everything is alright. During the weekend I went to a different dealer and mentioned about the noise and the tech did the test ride and immediately pointed it out as dash rattle. The tech was able to place his hand on the dash close to the windshield (slightly to the right of the steering wheel) and the noise stopped on the rough roads. I have 97K miles right now on the car and I have the extended warranty I shared this with the service rep and he is going to let me know if it will be covered.
View 8 RepliesMy 07 460 is now on its 3rd set of front shocks ( air suspension) . I drive always in comfort mode and they get very rattly and make chattering noises as soon as they get to 10k mark ... The dealer keeps replacing them as it's still in warranty but it seems crazy ... Does this still happen with the 2013 onwards upgrade model too ??
View 14 RepliesI have a strange rattling sound coming from the driver side area outside the car. BUT ... I only hear the rattling sound when I get over 50 mph. I tried to narrow it down but still no luck. Here is what I investigated so far
1) Thought it was the driver side front wheel or underside molding ... Pulled wheel and looked at the plastic molding ... Some loose so I made sure it was tightened ... Still hear noise
2) Checked the luggage rack ... Removed railings and still hear noise
3) Removed the driver side door panel to check for anything loose ... Did not find anything out of order .
4) Tightened driver side mirror ... still hear sound
I have 2010 LS460L with 76K miles and I hear rattle noise in from driver and passenger side. I took it to the Lexus service center and they said it's the air suspension problem and need to replace this part and would cost about $2K per suspension.
My question is is there anyway I could convert this air suspension to standard coil or gas shocks from Air suspension??
I will be using this for a Limo in NYC and the road conditions are terrible and air suspension is not going to last that long and they are expensive.
Some customers may experience a buzz or slight rattle noise from the rear portion of the headliner when the vehicle hits small sharp bumps. It has been determined that the source of such a rattle may be the Tire Pressure Warning System (TPWS) antenna located above the headliner between the rear of the sliding roof opening and the top of the back glass.
Well, after a few months of frustration hearing a buzzing in the back seats, i notice this bulletin on the 07 ES and I've tested on my 08 car and it is the same, simply tapping on the roof liner or pulling it and releasing it makes a buzzing sound. Even when i tap on the glass roof, the buzzing sound is resonating. Would the dealer rectify this issue if my car is a 08 ? I'm still under warranty.
Lexus LS460 2008. My AC compressor cuts off at low speed if i accelerate or turn it off and then on it comes back. It never happens at highway speed only in town could it be relay problem? where is the AC compressor relay located?

View 4 RepliesI took it back into the shop and told them about the brakes squealing and rattle. They told me my rotors were glazed so I should replace them. Thought it was fixed, until I got home and still had the squeal and the rattle. I guess they can't seem to duplicate the problem but this is what my brakes sound like when I brake, or go over bump while braking: [URL]......

View 14 RepliesI have taken it to the dealership and they claim they can't hear anything and I'll have to wait for it to get worse. The noise emanates from the front left wheel well area. It is only heard at low speeds (under 20-25mph) on areas of semi-rough or undulating pavement. It sounds like a loose shock or something....
I've seen on other boards that there have been problems with other Lexus vehicles and the struts, upper and lower insulators, mounts and bump stops.
Had this issue when the car is driven over rough roads. The rattle is suppressed if I lean over and hold the seat.
View 4 Replies101,400 miles on car. Started noticing about 2 weeks ago, at idle, and as pickup up speed, a whining noise coming from the engine bay. It has gotten a little worse, so I started trouble shooting.
Basically, at idle, its somewhat annoying, but as you hit 20-30mph it can be more annoying if the radio is off or at low level. If Im sitting there in park, and its whining away, all it takes is me cutting the A/C knob to OFF, and then quiet as a mouse.
So, other than the compressor going bad, I can't see anything else related? I always hate when AC problems show up, they are never cheap....
I get this noise, AT TIMES, on cold starts which sounds similar to a knock. It lasts for maybe a couple of seconds at most. It's not the FI ticking that is generally always present. I see where other models (engines) have reported start up noise but nothing on the 460.
View 2 RepliesOur 2007 RX350 with 91,000 miles started an annoying rattle at startup that lasts a couple seconds then goes away. The car drives fine and makes no unusual noise after the initial start. Its definitely not normal as it hasn't done it the last 91K miles we have driven the car.

There is a very pronounced metallic rattle coming from the rear of the cabin when going over moderate sized bumps or listening to audio at moderate levels. Did some troubleshooting and have narrowed the noise down to somewhere above the rear center of the headliner. If I press slightly upwards on the headliner at this location, the noise stops.

View 14 RepliesMy LS460 recently developed a rattle from the front drivers side. It's triggered more by rumbles/vibrations from an uneven surface rather than speed bumps or large pot holes.
It sounds a bit like a washer vibrating on a metal tray (for what that's worth)!
Interestingly though it gets a LOT worse when the car is in 'Comfort' suspension mode, and is nowhere near as bad in 'Sports' mode. So it seems that having the suspension higher gives this thing more room to rattle.
I noticed in the service history that the front passenger air strut was replaced 30k ago, so I'm worrying that there is a large bill on the horizon.
