Strange ticking noise that you can hear in the cabin sounds almost like a exhaust leak or a fan blade ticking something under the hood.. I have had the dealer check it they say nothing is wrong i just can't believe a 75k car can have this noise...

View 6 RepliesAbout 3 months ago I noticed at times my Heat would blow out cool air. This would happen mostly when I was sitting idle or in traffic in a "stop n go" situation. I did some research and found out that my Coolant was on the low end. I bought the Pink Coolant from the Lexus dealer and filled up.
I checked the levels again a few days later and it was low again. So I topped off again and looked for any puddles underneath the car when sitting, I paid attention to any smells, and looked to see if I was blowing white smoke out of my exhaust. NOTHING! My indicator stays on the middle range and never runs cold or hot.
I topped off after seeing that it was low again and didn't have to put as much in there, but it definitely was low again. It's now been about 2 weeks and it's still at the same spot (near the low indicator) but it doesn't seem like it's getting any lower. I have done more research and I cannot find any issues with the 2008 LS460's having issues with head gaskets or coolant issues.
I recently had my bumper replaced at the Lexus dealer Auto Shop because of a pothole I ran over that dinged it (also bent my rim)....I know this might not have anything to do with it but I thought I would add this tid bit since I didn't notice the issue until I got it back from them! I'm just really at a loss
As it says, I have a tick. It's not apparent at idle and increases with engine speed.
Just spent $570 having bellowed up-pipes installed and while a little quieter, the tick is still there. What else tends to go out on these things? Manifold(s) cracked, manifold gasket(s)? It's seen high EGT's quite a bit but not for longer than 20-25 seconds.
While searching on line for information about the LS460's engine ticking noise, I came across a fascinating engineering paper. It explains the source of the noise in all GDI engines and proposes two solutions. One is not feasible as it would require some further development of the engine but the other solution may be practical for the DIY enthusiast. The question would be what type of material to use which would withstand the conditions under the hood?

5.0 coyote exhaust leak .. Since the cold weather has arrived i have noticed a new noise. During cold start engine warm up I hear a nice little tick-tick-tick which sounds to me like an exhaust leak. Is this a common problem? I have just over 58,000 miles would this be covered under powertrain or do they have some nice exclusions for exhaust?
View 9 RepliesI recently hit 180,000 km on my mileage and all of the sudden theres increased ticking engine noise and vibration. Sounds like a diesel engine. No check engine lights, gas mileage is the same, acceleration is the same and as far as I can tell after checking oil its within normal range for now.
I'm worried its either the VVTi Rubber hose exploded or its the VVTI Camshaft / piston slap issue. My dilemna is I'm 3 hours drive away from a Lexus dealer but there is a Toyota Dealer 10 min away. Should I bring it in to verify theres no oil leak at Toyota and then take it back to a Lexus mechanic to see if it is Camshaft gear ?
I went to go pump gas and this happened. Had to tow it back home. Battery is a few months old. I also tried putting a fully charged jump box to it with no results.
Gonna hook a scanner to it later to see if there is any code. (Shouldn't be any if it's the starter...correct???)
I hooked up a scanner to the car and found:
P0335 ( Crankshaft position sensor)
P0340 P0345 P0365 P0390 Camshaft position sensor
I guess its safe to eliminate the starter. Do all the sensors need replacing or do you think one particular sensor is causing all the other sensors to go off as well.
When I start up my LS460, i hear some rattling noise comming from the engine..sounds like rocks/sand? im not sure but it only happens when i start up the car..after that..the car is completely quiet and drives perfectly fine...
View 14 RepliesI purchased a brand new 09 LS 460 a few weeks ago - it is an amazingly beautiful car and a joy to look at.
Unfortunately, I think I have the dreaded wind noise problem, as there is very noticeable wind noise above about 65 mph - it gets pretty bad when it is really windy outside.
I love driving the car and have a long daily commute - however, this issue it starting to bother/annoy me and I find it takes away from my enjoyment.
So just yesterday, I'm driving and I noticed that dreadful thunking suspension noise. Is this the control arm problem I've been hearing about so much? The 2007 only has 40,000 miles on it. I guess the age of the car is the culprit there right? Or maybe these arms really do go out quickly.

Like an air compressor for a few seconds. It's not loud, but you definitely hear the whine/air type noise. It's almost not even bothersome for me as I've gotten used to it. But when my wife or others are in the car they always ask "what is that"
Ly 2007 LS 460 just started have a wind noise around the drivers side door pillar. Is it time to change the rubber molding around the door. If so, where would I start to buy one?
View 3 RepliesI recently purchased a beautiful 07 LS460 with 24K miles about 3 weeks ago.
About 2 weeks ago, I noticed a loud clicking / hammer noise from the dashboard lasting about 15- 20 seconds and after reviewing numerous threads here, I realized it could be my blender door / damper due to the infamous cabin air filter change. .
It must be noted that the Dealer did not change the cabin air filter and when I looked inside my glove box, I could easily open / close the blender door using the recirc ac button. Additionally, my cooling and fan is working fine as well, so I am not too sure that this is a blender door issue.
My question is that the noise continues to happen for about 20 seconds when the car is started and shut off. Since my blender door / damper opens and closes smoothly, is the servo motor going bad or servo sub assembly?
If it is my servo motor, could it be possible that it was damaged when the cabin filter was replaced? With the car only bearing 24K miles, I cant believe my servo motor has already gone bad!
I picked up a 09 ls460 swb a few months back and am slowly turning it into my daily.
at an angle causes a loud popping noise from my roof. I checked the headliner to see if anything was loose but came up with nothing. This occasionally happens on sharp turns on uneven ground.
I recently lowered my car so now this is happening way too often.
I have some FAINT clicking noise at the rear of the 08 LS460 and I'm thinking it's rear bearing going out..but not sure...what exactly does bearing failure sounds like? I hear this SOFT clicking noise from (more likely) the right rear. The noise is very faint and I have to roll down the window to actually hear it.
If I move through the neighborhood at about 15-20 mph, I hear this clicking faint clicking sounds..and if I speed up a little, the clicking noise increases (in frequency, not loudness). When I go faster like on freeway or normal road, I can't hear it anymore. Probably clicking too fast or not as loud at that speed. With windows up, I can't hear it at all.
Is this has to do with rear bearing going out on me or possibly something else? Any recommendation where I can start looking at? Is it brake pads? The car is 35K miles but since it's 08, unfortunately it's out of basic warranty (time). Is this covered under powertrain?
I have a 2011 LS 460 with 28K miles in very good shape although there is a noise most audible when I am in a stop sign that disappears when I shift the transmission to "P". The noise is like a tackat tackat tackat tackat . I took the car to the dealer and the service advisor claims is normal. Is it or my car is defective?
View 7 RepliesPurchased a new LS 460 first of this year. Definitely not as quite as my LS430 and has an annoying pinging sound which the dealership says can't be fixed and is a normal sound for the car. Talked today with Service Manager and his lead mechanic and was told this is normal.
Problem: When I purchased this car for wife I had an expectation that it would be a quite running car. Not sound like a diesel engine, especially when at idle. I've read about others with the same problem and wonder if there is a fix out there for this annoyance. Lexus claims it is a fuel injector noise. Some people here stated that had there car fixed by Lexus Engineers.
Well, i have almost had it with this car. When the car is idling in park... ti sounds like the transmission is chattering,... then, once i put it in gear it gets louder. like a medium fast "clinking" noise. ALSO, when rolling at a slow speed and i barely hit the gas the transmission (or maybe engine) makes a zipping chattery noise.

What are thoughts on changing every 7,500 if no pulling or hills? I am using synthetic Royal Purple. Is it worth the cost?
View 1 RepliesMy LS 460 has a pulsing wheel/front end noise that seems to increase as the speed increases from 5 mph to about 30mph and then fades out. I brought it in for service and they test drove it twice with 1 and then 2 service techs. They could hear the noise and said to me that they think it is cupping on the tires. The tires are in great condition inside to outside.Tires have only 14000 K. I switched the back to the front. The same dut-dut-dut-dut sound increases as the speed increases to about 30mph.
I believe that the noise is something more serious. I noticed that when the suspension compresses over a high point in the road at say 20mph the sound will stop during the time the car is comming of the high point in the road. Could this be a bearing/suspention- or something with the breaking motor because I also have been using the break hold feature for several months and not sure if that could cause harm. Also I do hear more grind or grumbling when turning the wheel to the left at low speed then when turning to the right.
