Sitting in parking lot listening to ipod thru aux port opened door to access door pocket and sound system went nuts. I now have a high pitch noise coming through all speakers on all settings even with audio off.

View 2 RepliesNew 2012 SE, I noticed a high pitch noise coming from the rear side of my car. The high pitched noise/whine happens as soon as the car is running, and continues until it is turned off. I can hear it every time when standing idle or at lower speed. So I brought it into the VW dealership, and my technician: "found noise described is the high pressure pump in the tank".
We tested another 2012 Passat SE and we found the exactly same(even louder) high pitched noise coming out from the high pressure pump. I was told by a service manager that it is a standard high pressure pump noise for 2012 Passat. Well I don't think that any high pitch ultra whine/noise should be a standard feature in any car...It is very,very annoying noise...
Whenever I start my R32, I have some high pitch buzz noise coming from the rear, stay and never go away while even driving.
View 16 RepliesI just bought a 2007 es350 yesterday with 67k miles. When I test drove the car, the highway was too congested to get the car above 50 mph. So, the car sounded fine to me and I purchased it with a free 90 day, 3k mile powertrain/engine/transmission warranty. The car should still be under its standard 7 year 70k mile warranty as well, right?
Fast forward to today. The highway was less congested and I was able to get the car up to 80 mph. However, I noticed a constant hum start at 60 mph, which became louder and more high pitch at 75 mph. I am taking this back to the Lexus dealership from where I purchased it to get the sound diagnosed and repaired. I'm hoping it's a problem still covered by the warranty, like the differential (does the ES350 have a differential since it's fwd) or pinion bearings. Could it be something simple, like a bad tire?
I have a 1995 Lexus ES300 with 130,000 miles on it. When I reverse, I get a low-pitch growling and as as soon as I apply the brakes by a high-pitch, ungodly screech. This noise is definitely coming from the rear wheel areas. I'm not sure which tire is the culprit (I hear both sides from while listening from both the inside and outside). It happens frequently but is particularly bad on rainy, snowy, misty, or high humidity days. Two years ago I replaced the pads and rotors. At this point, the pads look to have about 40% life on them yet. This problem started happening about a year ago.
My initial thoughts were that it was just rusting because of the frequency on high moisture days. But both noises are way too loud for that. My second speculation was that the emergency brake was catching, but after examining it I think not. I've taken the entire assembly (brakes, rotors calipers, and emergency brake) at each tire apart and looked for any obvious issues that look incorrect. No luck. I've also applied brake quiet with similar results. Now my thoughts are that the low pitch is the rotors being warped. But that doesn't explain the screech and why it only occurs in reverse.
The car required a new water pump, the mechanic suggested to also replace the serpentine belt because of age - after a week the car made high pitch noise when started, the noise stopped after the initial start-at the shop it was explained that a new serpentine belt requires tightening after the car has been driven for a while - like a week- is this correct or was the belt not installed correctly....

This high frequency disturbance is audible with the engine off (eliminating the alternator as being the source). This is also present with the volume set to a minimum.

View 1 RepliesI have a 2007 Sonata, 2.4L 4cyl. and it is making some weird noise as of late. I have done some research and from what I have read it seems like it may be a bad engine mount. One thing to note is that the noise really only happens when the car is cold and hasn't warmed up yet or on a cold day.
Basically the best description is that the noise is a high-pitched rattle/vibration noise. The noise seems to match the vibrations of the engine but doesn't seem to get more intense if I rev the engine. The noise does get quieter if I put it in neutral but it is still there. The noise also happens even if the car is parked and off, and I do something like shut the door or trunk. I haven't gotten a chance to get in there and look under the hood myself to try...
I've been noticing some new noises in my Elantra in the last couple of months.
First, there's a clunking noise that sounds like it's coming from the steering area. It usually happens when I back up and rotate the steering wheel, like when I back out of my parking spot. More often it's in the morning.
Second, when I turn the fan on there is a high pitched squeal. If you turn the fan off you can hear the squeal more clearly for a moment as the fans die down. This one only started happening in the last couple of weeks.
I guess I'll have to take it in and get them to take a look. Last year it was a squeaking in the pano roof which only happened when it was hot out. They seemed to have lessened it but it wasn't gone completely.
I have a 2009 Tiguan 2.0t 4 motion and recently has started having a very high pitched squealing noise coming from either the accessory belt area or the timing chain. The noise is constant until you are under acceleration and then it goes away. The CEL came on but when scanned it said no codes. and now sometimes the CEL will flash and the car has been idling rough. What it may be?

View 5 RepliesI have a 2009 LS 460 AWD SWB and I'm experiencing a low pitch noise that starts around 55mph and goes away after 65mph. It's a low pitch sound that's like "wom, wom, wom". The best way I can describe it is if you took a crystal bowl of water and rubbed your wet finger around the rim so it makes a low-pitch reverberating sound. It's strange that it only occurs at a specific speed range. There is also some vibration that I can feel from the floor board in the driver seat at the same time the noise pops up.
I had all eight of my control arms replaced and thought that might resolve this noise but it didn't. I took it to my Lexus dealership and their conclusion is that the noise is due to the tires (they rotated and checked the balancing on my current tires and found nothing wrong with them. They are Turanza's which are new and only have about 1000 miles on them). They said the vibration was likely coming from a torn boot on the front right axle.
I don't understand how the noise and vibration could each be caused by two separate unrelated sources when the noise/vibration are heard/felt at the same exact time in the same exact speed range.
They gave me no specific recommendation on what type of tire to get and recommended I talk to a tire specialist about the noise.
I have problem with my brake system. When is comes to last 10 feet to a stop light always make this squeaky noise/high pitch noise. Brought it to the dealer for few times and they said this is a high-performance brake that's why there is these type of sound. I have a 2014 IS350.
View 5 RepliesI've noticed a noise coming from my car (2014 IS350 RWD) that sounds like a light, irregular rattle, when the engine is running in the 3500 - 4500 RPM range. I don't hear it necessarily under load, but if I am in manual mode in a lower gear, and let off the throttle, I can hear it.
The best way I can describe the noise is like a bowl of rice crispies (rapid and random), only slightly louder. You have to listen for it, the road/traffic should be quiet, and if you get back on the gas, the intake noise that's plumbed into the cabin pretty much covers it up. I can also hear it in Park or Neutral.... I've wondered if it's a loose heat shield, or an exhaust issue, but I can't hear it standing next to the car or with my head under the hood. I only hear it from the cabin. The rhythm of the noise is irregular.
I don't think it's ping/detonation, since that usually shows up under load, is much louder and has a decidedly metallic sound to it compared to what I'm hearing.
My girlfriend has a 2008 with around 120k miles on it. It's been pretty flawless but yesterday the RPMs started surging while idle and made kind of a high pitch humming noise when accelerating.
Today on her way to work she said the radio was going in and out, the battery light lit up and then the rest of the dash lights came on, and the speedometer stopped working.
What could be the problem? Could it just be the battery?
My GF drives a '05 Camry V6 with 82k miles on it. Just the other night, out of no where my GF's car starts to have this high pitch whining coming from the engine.
I was about 20ft. away when she started the car and from there it sounded like the power steering was out of fluid.. made the exact same sound (any guy worth his whit knows the sound). After I opened the hood I realized it wasn't the PS. After a little trouble shooting the noise seems to be coming from the left side... thought it could be a belt at first, but after playing around I swear it's coming from the heater core/AC lines.
I can feel the vibration in them and when I was pinching them together and putting pressure on them sometimes the noise would lessen or completely go away. I had my GF rev the engine and one time (when I was holding the lines) the noise was completely gone for a few minutes.
I can't pinpoint the exact place the noise is coming from... but after googling it it seems that most of the time strange noises are coming from that area it's either the water pump bearing, alternator or TB.
I took a video, but you can't really hear the noise cause it's a crappy cell video.... but the noise is really loud.
I have a 2013 Prius. I was noticing a high pitch coming that I could hear when I had the driver side window down and the sound was reflecting against things I was driving by. It was strange because it didn't change pitch at different speeds, and it would be there most of the time regardless of whether I was speeding up or slowing down. And regardless of whether I was using the brakes or not. I've been told this is the sound of the inverter.
View 9 RepliesOur 2008 Honda CR-V w/120k one owner, always dealer maintained, vehicle has recently started exhibiting a little high pitch whine coming from the engine area which increases when you rev the gas. I checked the transmission dipstick and the level is just below the bottom hole (owners manual says it should be between the bottom and top hole). Would this make the whine? By adding some fluid should it go away? Is it okay to use a fluid other than Honda's?
