Lexus LS460 2008. My AC compressor cuts off at low speed if i accelerate or turn it off and then on it comes back. It never happens at highway speed only in town could it be relay problem? where is the AC compressor relay located?
View 4 Replies101,400 miles on car. Started noticing about 2 weeks ago, at idle, and as pickup up speed, a whining noise coming from the engine bay. It has gotten a little worse, so I started trouble shooting.
Basically, at idle, its somewhat annoying, but as you hit 20-30mph it can be more annoying if the radio is off or at low level. If Im sitting there in park, and its whining away, all it takes is me cutting the A/C knob to OFF, and then quiet as a mouse.
So, other than the compressor going bad, I can't see anything else related? I always hate when AC problems show up, they are never cheap....
My passenger head light cuts out sometimes. I have to switch the lights off then on and it'll turn on. Bulb or balyst?
View 6 RepliesI have an '07 with 122k miles. There is an issue with the car when I attempt moderate to hard acceleration. I have observed the following behaviors:If I hit the gas hard, the engine will suddenly cut out, almost as if it hit the rev limiter or VSC has kicked in. The engine does not die, it just appears to go back to idle. It is not a miss or stumble. It is a full loss of engine power. If I keep my foot on the gas, it will kick in and out, sometimes so suddenly that it will chirp the tires when it re-engages. It will do this until I let off the gas and accelerate more slowly. It seems to happen when the car starts to pull hard over 3k rpm.
It can happen in any gear, as I have tried playing with keeping it in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, and have observed the same behavior when I hit the gas hard. It is not pedal position dependent, as I have observed this at anywhere between half throttle and wide open. There are no lights when this occurs. I have held it in this state for almost 20 seconds at times, trying to get a CEL, but nothing happens. I have hooked up a TIS tech stream monitor, and there are no problems recorded. The car runs and idles perfectly aside from this problem. If I accelerate normally, it will run just fine. It almost seems like a fuel delivery problem. Could the pump be suspect, not allowing enough fuel during high demand?
Today while driving the stereo simply cut/lost its sound. Radio and everything else still works buttons screen, just no sound. Turned the car off, it sat for 5 mins and turned the car back on. Sound came back for nearly 20 sec and then cut off.
Looking over the Lexus history the ML amp was replaced with what Lexus history shows as an upgraded amp per TSB about 30-40k miles ago if I recall.
The previous amp issues when it failed was the chipping noise, correct? Could I still potentially have a failed amp?
This happens to me again on a very hot day. The symptom is: all of sudden, the brake pedal becomes stiff. I mean I can only depress down the pedal just a little bit. Then when I want to accelerate, the engine works very hard and speed picks up very slowly. RPM will shoot to 3000. When I remove my foot from the gas pedal, the speed drops very fast. The car slows down much sooner than usual. So my feeling is the brake is dragging the car. The dealer cannot duplicate the problem during short test drive. So what can be wrong? The brake booster was replaced a few months ago. Is it possible it provides too much boost?
View 17 RepliesI have a 95 stang that I just had refilled with Freon and oil at Ice Cold Air. The compressor turns on then cuts off as if its low on Freon but its not. Last night the ac started blowing cold and was this morning then started back on the compressor turning on then off. I know it has Freon in it and is full. Could it be that the orifice tube is clogged or maybe even the drier? is this something that I could take off and try to clean out?
View 14 RepliesSince it's "auto repair season" in my driveway, I was working on my daughter's car (2001 Accent, 1.6 GSi) and noticed that the air conditioning compressor makes a noise (like a cross between a burble and a shriek) when it cuts out. I'm assuming it's the head unloader and was wondering if it's supposed to make a noise that's quite that loud or if maybe it's getting low on refrigerant - the compressor runs quietly when it's turning and the clutch doesn't make any strange noises.
View 3 RepliesI got a 99 jeep sport straight 6. AC works fine after topping off. Pressure 32 l/s 210 h/s could still be a little low but air is very cold. Problem is while drive compressor shuts off. I thought it may have been too low causing it to kick off. while in park & holding rpm's at 2k everything seem to be ok.
It cycled on/off at times as normal but then compressor stopped & didn't come on again. shut the engine off checked the fuses restarted & the air is back running like normal?? so whats going on do I have a bad l/pressure switch or may be a relay sticking??while at 2k rpm's l/side 25 h/side 250 then at idle 32 & 210. I don't think its low enough to cause the shut off but.....
I notice when the AC is on, the rpm is around 800 and I can clearly hear the rattle of the compressor. When I switch off the AC, the rpm's drop to 500 and the noise is much reduced. Is this typical for our LS460 models?
View 1 RepliesHave and intermittent condition with my 1996 F-150 4.9. AC runs and then cuts out (compressor not turning). I lose 12v to both side of high side switch. I tried to troubleshoot using a schematic in Haynes Foprd Pickups and Bronco for 92 and later F-Series/Bronco, but the color code for the wiring doesn't match up.
On my truck, there is 2 wires from the low side pressure switch which mates to a socket with only 1 wire. I have 12 volts at switch terminal on dash control, and it seems that I have an broken wire behind the dash, as I can get it to operate again when I move the harness around. Where can I get a schematic of this part of the circuit?
I was told yesterday the rattling sound coming from the engine maybe my a/c compressor maybe going out, it's late April in Texas and this is the worst possible time. I have 89000 miles on my 08 ES 350.
View 4 Replies(2008 ES 350) I hear this squealing noise under the hood, I had the AC compressor rebuilt because I was told that was the cause, low and behold it's not, I only hear the noise when the car is in gear, but I don't hear it when in park or when I drive, but it's loud in drive and reverse. The water pump has been replaced too. Where is this coming from?

This morning going to work, about 2 miles from my house my CHECK VSC light and TRACTION light turned ON, just get on freeway and the CHECK VSC light started FLASHING and when this occurred, the car was unable to accelerate, the car could only go about 40 mph and then slowly going up to about 60mph. I was scared and took the next exit turn around and going home. I'm at 41000 miles and out of warranty.
View 9 RepliesI just bought a 2007 GS350 that had 45k miles and have noticed something strange with I believe the transmission. So far I have has 2 times when I have hit the brakes hard and had to accelerate again and either heard a clunk noise or even had the tires burp once after the clunk. Tonight I hit the brakes hard to avoid a red light and heard a clunk. I'm going to get it checked out at the dealer but I bet they will tell me they can't reproduce the problem. I have 2 other Lexus's (IS300) and have had no problems so this is a first.
View 6 RepliesI got my 2011 ES 350 inspected at a dealership in Chicago last week and they told me that the passenger-side (right side) front axle boot was leaking grease. I'd noticed before that my car would shimmy/vibrate slightly when I accelerate, the vibration would intensify if I was accelerating up a hill. However, the mechanic at the dealership said the problem COULD be in the axle, but it could be something else. The car has new Michelin tires, I would assume the problem is tires, but that wouldn't explain the increased vibration that happens when driving up a hill. I talked to a local mechanic and he said he would replace the axle. Do you think the vibration would disappear if I replaced the axle?

it also happens when i am turned a lot to the left or right, and i reverse. it sounds like a hammer hitting cement. it only happens when i turn almost all the way to the left or right...?
Few weeks ago I bought my first Lexus, an '07 GX 470. It has roughly 75,000 miles on it, 2 previous owners before me. Anyway, I hear a noise sometimes which either sounds like a slight belt slip or fuel being pumped into the injectors when I give it a good amount of gas and the engine downshifts to accelerate. I had the dealer replace the drive belt(serpentine belt) because of 2 reasons, it needed to be replaced and I thought that could be the problem(I did not have to pay for it since I have had some problems with the Lexus dealership I bought it from, they did it as a "goodwill" gesture, that's a story for another thread) and inspect the tensioner and pulleys, they said the pulleys and tensioner were in good working order.
I drove the GX home tonight after said replacement, and I still noticed the same noise. The best I can describe it is like I said above, a slight belt slipping noise or it could also be described I guess as fuel being injected under acceleration as soon as the trans downshifts to accelerate. I am just curious if this is normal for this engine or do I have a possible problem? It's covered under the Lexus used car warranty for another 5 months so if there is something wrong, obviously I would like it fixed under warranty if something is wrong. One thing I should probably mention is, the noise is semi quiet and I guess the average person might not even notice it.
What speed the car is in 8th gear ? My 08 LS supposedly has 8 speed A/T..
View 7 RepliesI have 2008 ES350 & my ABS speed sensor light came on a few months ago & i just got around to getting it fixed yesterday.
I took my car to get the code checkout because on my dash the Brake, ABS, & Traction light was on all the same time & stay on. Can't remember the code but it read left rear speed sensor. So i order one off Ebay. I had my mechanic fix it yesterday & for some reason all three lights still on & i drove it for 50 miles now figuring the light would be off by now.
My 2007 ES-350 has 151K miles on it. Took it to a dealer until 120K and then found a really good mechanic that works on it now. It has been a great car but recently started having front end issues.
I was getting a bad vibration at 55 plus mph. That was a fiasco to get fixed. These are all the thing in order I had to replace to fix the vibration/shimmy over a 6 month period.
New Tires
Two new control arms
CV joints
Front left axle
Finally have the vibration/shimmy fixed. However, I started noticing a different problem some months back but was hard to diagnose with all the front end issues. Now that those are fixed there is a random flutter or shake that comes and goes depending on speed, if I'm going uphill or accelerating during a turn. It only happens when my foot is on the accelerator. It's often more pronounced at lower speeds. I asked them to check the struts and they said I had two that were leaking, but my mechanic thinks it might be the transmission. But I am only familiar with transmissions slipping in and out of gear. This is not the case. I have also noticed recently that it is coming more frequent and will soon be a consistent problem.
