Lexus LS 2007+ :: 2011 - Slight Humming Noise From The Front
Nov 20, 2015
I have a 2011 with 42k. While doing a front brake job, I noticed that the driver's side wheel hub while rotating it sounded noisy, it did not rotate as smoothly when compared to the right side. I have also noticed while driving that their is a slight humming noise from the front but always attributed it to the Bridgestone Turanazas. Maybe it is the tires and I just over reacting. Is this normal for the hub? Here is a video clip with sound. Is this wheel hub going bad?

At idle, it sounds like a little diesel engine humming along. Everything is turned off. Does your car sound the same at idle? 2011 LS460 Sport

Layely with my 2011 SE I've been getting a low pitch humming noise while traveling at low speeds, mainly going into a stop sign or light and searching for a parking spot. It happens with the AC off as well, not so much a vibration just a low pitch hum, also does it with foot off brake too as I just let it coast. Kind of annoying and want to make sure its good.

I bought my 2011 Sonata with 27k miles on it. After a while (few months) I noticed on occasion when turning I would get a screeching/squeal noise from the front tires. Only happened during certain turns (U turns I noticed where higher chance of happening).
I rotated the tires (Front to the rear, Rear to the front), and then there was a loud humming noise. I got it checked with the dealer and they confirmed tires were cupping (uneven treadwear right?) . So now its been 10,000 miles and the noise is the same. I just got an alignment done and there has been not much of a change.
So, other than getting new tires, should I get the tires balanced? Or just rotate them once more so that the rear return to the front again? Will I have to get another alignment done?

I just purchase a new 2012 Lexus LS460 L AWD. Between 35 to 40 MPH I feel a slight vibration in the front end of the car. Once I get above 40 MPH the vibration or wobble goes away. Could it be a tire out of balance? Car was bought new, and currently has 1200 miles on the clock.

I have 2011 GX 460 with 28000 miles. Just recently I started to notice the noise of the engine. You can only hear it only from a driver's seat, and it happens when you drop the pedal and engine goes into idling, at stop signs or stop lights etc. It comes as grinding noise and goes away when you accelerate. If the vehicle in parking or at full stop, you can hear this humming light grinding noise. I go outside, lay under the car and hear no noise. The dealer says it is a normal sound for this vehicle. I tried a few of them, and it is not the sound I hear.

I have a 2012 Toyota Camry SE I4 with about 34,500 miles. I have noticed that over the past 2 weeks, the car make a kind of slight humming noise only for a second. It only happens first thing in the morning after the first start of the day. Its not right away, it happens after I pull out of the driveway, and as I drive away it happens at about 10 mph. The noise will not happen till the following day after a cold start. I have tried to pinpoint the sound and it doesn't matter how long I let the car warm up and it doesn't matter if the heater is running or not. It will still make the noise. The car runs good other than this noise.

This noise sound as if an electric motor going off for a second only. It almost sounds as a CD changer changing cds but for a second only.
What is weird is that it only sounds when the car has been off, turn it on and I start accelerating to about 8-10mph. If I come to a complete stop at a stop light and accelerate again it will not sound. If i come to complete stop and put the car in park or N, it will not sound. You will only hear it on the first take off when the car has been off.
I would also like to point that I have manually shifted and this does not change a thing. The noise still comes on around 8-10mph even if I keep it in 1st gear.
Furthermore, I would also like to point out that the noise is is not loud. Chances are I will not hear if I have radio on at low levels or the A/C fan in mid to high.
Again, the sounds seems to come from the outside the cab and it sounds like an electric motor going off for about one second only.
The car is a 2012 l4 with about 60k miles on the odo.

09 i4 AUTO 47K miles ... When the car is running at around 50mph and if I give it very slight throttle (enough only to keep speed constant), I would hear this rhythmic humming noise. The hum rhythm has a frequency of about 1/2 second each. It is very muffled, almost like exhaust noise or tire noise. However, if I downshift to 4th gear, keep the same speed, and apply the throttle in the same way, the noise doesn't occur.

Some customers may experience a buzz or slight rattle noise from the rear portion of the headliner when the vehicle hits small sharp bumps. It has been determined that the source of such a rattle may be the Tire Pressure Warning System (TPWS) antenna located above the headliner between the rear of the sliding roof opening and the top of the back glass.
Well, after a few months of frustration hearing a buzzing in the back seats, i notice this bulletin on the 07 ES and I've tested on my 08 car and it is the same, simply tapping on the roof liner or pulling it and releasing it makes a buzzing sound. Even when i tap on the glass roof, the buzzing sound is resonating. Would the dealer rectify this issue if my car is a 08 ? I'm still under warranty.

I've noticed that when I have the fan on...A/C on or off...there is a humming noise coming from the front of the car at approximately 900RPM - 1100RPM... At first I thought it was the A/C compressor but there's a sound even without the A/C on... the sound is like a motor running, low pitch sound...it is very noticeable when you are driving at very low speeds like when you drive around a parking lot looking for a spot... it is also noticeable when you are coasting to a red light or stop sign and the RPM's hit about 1000... not sure if it's the fan making the noise because it doesn't have enough lubrication or something of a bigger problem...

My 2011 Traverse makes a slight humming noise when operating. Chevrolet says the steering gear is leaking. Need a new steering gear and pump. Also said it is not covered under the powertrain warranty. Our personal mechanic says it should be covered. In April they replaced the steering gear housing kit free of charge. I am an idiot when it comes to figuring out what is supposed to be covered. Why would the steering gear housing kit be covered but not the steering gear? Why would a 2011 have problems with the steering gear? I drive like a granny. Have about 62,000 miles on it.

Few weeks ago I bought my first Lexus, an '07 GX 470. It has roughly 75,000 miles on it, 2 previous owners before me. Anyway, I hear a noise sometimes which either sounds like a slight belt slip or fuel being pumped into the injectors when I give it a good amount of gas and the engine downshifts to accelerate. I had the dealer replace the drive belt(serpentine belt) because of 2 reasons, it needed to be replaced and I thought that could be the problem(I did not have to pay for it since I have had some problems with the Lexus dealership I bought it from, they did it as a "goodwill" gesture, that's a story for another thread) and inspect the tensioner and pulleys, they said the pulleys and tensioner were in good working order.
I drove the GX home tonight after said replacement, and I still noticed the same noise. The best I can describe it is like I said above, a slight belt slipping noise or it could also be described I guess as fuel being injected under acceleration as soon as the trans downshifts to accelerate. I am just curious if this is normal for this engine or do I have a possible problem? It's covered under the Lexus used car warranty for another 5 months so if there is something wrong, obviously I would like it fixed under warranty if something is wrong. One thing I should probably mention is, the noise is semi quiet and I guess the average person might not even notice it.

So I'm new to the all time awd car thing. I came from a 4x4 truck which 4x4 was never engaged on pavement or in tight cornering. When maneuvering my is250 awd in tight spots ie. parking lots and the front wheels are at full lock in either forward or reverse there is a slight binding/grinding feeling or faint noise. Is this normal on an awd car or Lexus specific??? Did a quick search and didn't find much about this issue. I'm pretty sure its not tire rub.....stock set up.

6K mile 2011 Santa Fe Limited front wheel drive V6 and I am getting a humming/howling sound at 55+ MPH and it is very annoying, not too loud but there. It is really bad at 75+...
The tires were road forced balanced and a alignment was done by the dealer. The Rear was way out of align but they supposedly fixed it.
I do not get any kind of vibration in the body or steering wheel but the humming/howling sound is terrible. Almost like when you crack one of the rear windows and you get that pressure sound...

I recently had a close encounter with some large rocks on a bad road and broke the power steering cooler. I lost some fluid and pressure as I had no brakes and it steered like a log truck. Replaced the damaged part and added fluid. I was informed by ford technician that air in the lines would make noise but would eventually work itself out. Well the brakes work and steering is getting better but it is noisy with steering and brakes. How long should it take to get the air out? PS the fluid looks foamy now. I should also mention it was making a slight humming noise before the incident with the rock.

I'm the second owner of a 2011 Hyundai Sonata SE 2.4L with about 79,000 miles on it. I've had it for about 6 months and I go to get into my car this morning, and my car wouldn't start.
It starts to start but then cuts out and does a humming noise. I don't know if that counts as "turning over" because its a push start, but there were no clicking noises like it was trying to catch, just the hum. It also started making this same humming noise when I turn the car "on" without turning on the engine.
Everything works, my stereo, ac, headlights, taillights. I even tried jumping it and that did not work. We checked the fuses and they all look ok too.
I also put the key in the manual key hole in the center console while doing all this just to make sure.
Although it looks like the car is on, after I try to start it, the lights on the dash go out and my meters all turn on just as if the car is on, but the engine will not start. I can even shift the gears from parked to drive, neutral, etc and power steering works.
Finally after about an hour of messing with it, I gave up and tried to shut the car power off, and it wouldn't turn off! I went back n forth between the two on modes for a good 5-7 minutes before it FINALLY turned completely off and I was able to lock up and leave it...
*I have also had issues before where one or two dome lights randomly turn on when i unlock the car (with them set to OFF at all times). Maybe this is a minor electrical issue that turned into a bigger problem from ignoring it?
**I DO have an aftermarket stereo and alarm installed FYI.

My 2011 malibu has approx. 20,000 miles, it makes a loud humming noise that is very annoying, can't even hear someone talking and must turn up the radio. It gets much worse when you get up to 55mph and above. I thought it might be the tires but they look good, but could it still be the tires?

I have a 2011 LS 460 with 28K miles in very good shape although there is a noise most audible when I am in a stop sign that disappears when I shift the transmission to "P". The noise is like a tackat tackat tackat tackat . I took the car to the dealer and the service advisor claims is normal. Is it or my car is defective?
