I've had this in old cars before but not a car less than a year old ! I have 5,000 miles on mine and everytime I start the car this summer it smells like sour ammonia or mildew. I'm gonna take it in soon but was hoping there was an easy fix. Everything I've read seems temporary.

I've had the JoeZ axle back installed for about two months now. I noticed that the engine light came on initially when installing but it went away on its own. I got into an accident and after the repairs were done on my car the light was gone.
It soon came back on but i expected it was because my oil change was due
Got the oil change done and the light was off. Couple days ago the light came back on.
I called the Lexus Dealer and they told me that it might be due to the Gas cap not tight enough. Gave it a few twist but light still remained on.
For the past month, I also recently noticed a mildew smell coming from the vents when i start the car but goes away. Does the mildew smell + Check engine light mean that something is wrong with the exhaust?

My Gen 3 is just over a year old with 10K miles. Live in Central Florida so the air has been on for plenty of those miles. Most times my HVAC is set Auto/75/AC on, and use no special procedures to vent the evaporator with non/cooled air prior to shutting off the car.
Just wanted to let know that the mildew smell i had in my '10 ISF was resolved with a simple spray into the a/c intake vents at the bottom of the windshield. Changing the cabin filter and lysol didnt do squat. its called "a/c treatment spray" available at Lexus or at the auto stores.

Took car into dealer todayand all they did was spray foo foo juice and my car now stinks to high heavens. Nobody told me a toyota would smell llike mildew. What is this and what do I do to fix it. I am scared to drive this car as some have told me it is probably MOLD in the ac.

I have a '07 Elantra Limited. Air coming out air conditioner has a fairly strong mildew smell. How can I get rid of the smell? Is there a drain plug somewhere in the ventilation system I can open to get rid of water?

It's a 2012 with only 15k miles and the cabin filter is brand new. I was thinking of getting the mold sprays to apply directly to the vents. What to do to resolve it?

We have a 2005 VW Passat wagon and it has an awful and undetectable mildew/mold smell. We have had it checked for leaks by three separate mechanics, no water or dampness is apparent under the carpets, we have never seen any water in the car. It is not related to A/C or heat, for it is always there in the passenger cabin. We had it detailed with an antimicrobial solution applied to all of the upholstery and we cannot get rid of the stink.

I read before that the condensation hoses were sometimes installed incorrectly leading to run off inside the cabin. Can that be it?
I have been having a mildew smell when using AC. I purchased a foaming cleaner that is mean to be sprayed by inserting a small tube in the evaporator pan drain, but the design on my santa fe drain hose prevents the tube from making it to the core. It always gets jammed up at firewall because of a 90 deg bend. Is there a port on the housing that allows access to the core?

View 3 RepliesI have a 2013 and after it sits for a day especially when it's warm the AC vents put out a moldy smell when starting. I've heard all the ideas of Turing off AC before shouting down engine but that shouldn't required for a Lexus of all cars. The dealer ran a refresh we thru the systems that worked for a few days but that was it. I've never had this problem with my 2004 RX. I also replaced the cabin filter with a charcoal based one. Seems a $45,000 vehicle shouldn't have this type of problem
View 14 RepliesI just got my IS350 F-sport which equipped with HID headlight for few days, but I have encountered a weird problem as every time I start the car the HID headlight never does a self-leveling job. It just never goes up and down and back to its original spot in which I have never encountered in my previous owned vehicles.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2014 RX 350. I have noticed an intermittent issue with exhaust smells coming into the cabin when the car is on recirculate and I am at highway speed. It happens when I am first accelerating after I've entered the freeway. If I get the odor, I can make it go away by briefly hitting the recirc/fresh button to bring in fresh air for a few moments. This doesn't happen driving around town.
View 5 RepliesSo with the warmer weather, I've finally had a chance to drive my car spiritedly (2015 IS350). However, I noticed that under full throttle for about 5-10 seconds, I get a sulfur smell after I let off the gas. I thought maybe it was the gas (I've only put in Shell V-Power 91 in this car) so I drove the car until it had less than an eighth tank, then put in Petro Canada Ultra 94. So far, I've driven about 80 km on the new tank but I still smell a sulfur smell after hard acceleration.
I never noticed this smell last summer, so I assume it's related to something that's changed. So far my car is still 100% stock so the only culprit I can think of is gas. It is possible that I never noticed it before though because you can't smell it when the windows are closed with AC on, which is usually what I do in the summer.
It could be the "winter blend" gas that gas stations have right now?
