Where this sound is coming from? I notice it more when the engine hasn't been turned on in a few hours or so. It only happens at certain engine rpms, usually a bit higher than idle. It's a bit squeaky, per se, may need to turn up audio on the video below to hear it. May need to bring her in (just did a 30k service too..)
Possibly a belt of some sort? My AC is on at startup.
So on my new 2.0T Sonata I noticed a brief metallic rattle in the 2K-3K RPM range when you rev the throttle. I was very concerned.
The sales rep said it may be the heat shielding that is coming lose. He was concerned and said to bring it back when Service is open.
I just got back from the dealer: The service manager didn't know what it was but his tech said it was part of the turbo system, it's a 1/4 inch bar (parallel with the bumper) you can plainly see between the firewall and engine. He said what it did but I forgot to take notes.
I listened to another 2.0 Turbo Sonata on the lot and it has the exact same rattle when rev'd.
Experience a hissing sound from stereo, specifically mark levinson. The hissing sounds occur from certain songs and when the engineer rpms are around 4500.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2012 F150 5.0 I just bought a couple weeks ago. I have a metallic ticking sound when cold, you can hear it when it idles down, but once driven and hot it is more faint but still there. Its not the injectors, Ive checked that.
Ive seen it posted in various forums but no cause mentioned. Ive had it in to the dealership and they are waiting for Ford to get back to them on what to do but I fear they will say its normal. My friends 2013 doesn't do it at all.
Listen to whole video, wait until the camera was placed on tire and its idled down to hear it. Its louder in real life but not extreme loud.

This has going on for a few months now off and on. Whenever drive my F hard I notice this metallic click when i go to shift hard into second. The metallic click seems to be coming from the front of the car. I also get it if I'm around 3600rpm in and stomp on the pedal in first or second. It also happens when I shift into reverse. What it could be??
It also happens when i floor it and let off and do not change gears mainly in first and second. Sometimes i get a double click also.
At first I thought something could have gotten trapped in the engine bay and it only accelerated to a high enough speed to cause an audible noise but seeing as it been 3 or 4 months I don't think its the problem. It does not seem to effect spend and it does not make the click all the time.
I have an issue with my 2011 350 that is quite perplexing. I get an intermittent sound... best I can describe it is like a metallic vacuum sound that seems to come from the right rear of the car. There is no pattern to when it arises... comes and goes. I've been to the dealership with it 3 times and of course it did not occur. They must think I am hallucinating. I thought it might be an exhaust problem.
View 6 RepliesHeard this noise from the suspension when going over bumps with the windows rolled down? It's loud enough to where i am sure it could be heard if you were a pedestrian walking next to the car. I have an IS350 Fsport (AVS), sounds pretty junky.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2015 IS350 F-Sport. While accelerating, the engine sounds fine, but it sounds aweful when idling. Don't know how else to describe it other than like a rattling sound...it's just not smooth. Is this "normal" or should i schedule a service appt for my car?
View 5 RepliesI am the original owner of a 2007 Camry SE V6 with 95K miles.The car has been meticulously maintained. About 2 weeks ago I started to notice a mysterious sound coming from the passenger side of the engine ONLY when the engine is idling. It has a higher, light pitch but when revving the engine slightly it goes away. Obviously when driving it can not be heard with all the other road noise etc. Also it makes this sound at different times, sometimes days with no noise, very irregularly. I checked that section of the engine bay and see no moisture, leakage or discoloration anywhere. Also serpentine belt shows no wear or wobble. Could it come from the water pump? I am very concerned that something will soon snap off, break and leave me stranded.
View 6 RepliesWhen accelerating up a steep grade the engine will ping (rattling metallic sound) when reaching a certain RPM, but stop pinging as I continue to push the accelerator down and increase the RPM. Should I be concerned? Could it be something else, loose exhaust heat shield or something? Or is this normal behavior for a gasoline engine? My old Honda Fit never had engine ping/knock that i can recall in its 200,000km of service running the same 87 octane gas.
View 15 RepliesI own a 2011 Hyundai Sonata with ~40,000 miles (certified pre-owned). I heard a metallic pop sound while driving but did not see anything on the road or in the rear view mirror. Then I got on a highway and couple of minutes later there was no response from the engine (i could feel the car decelerating). Then the engine started responding again. A couple minutes later, again there was reduced response but this time I got a bunch of lights (oil pressure, abs and a few others). I pulled over and tuned off the car. by this time only the oil pressure light was on.
I checked the oil which was near empty. I walked to a nearby gas station and bought oil and filled 2 quarts. Then I noticed that all oil was draining right through in a steady stream.
I had the car towed to a nearby Hyundai dealer. The dealer diagnosis was that there is no drain plug which may be because the last place the oil was changed (around 2-3 months back) did not install the plug properly. He also said that the engine is ruined and will have to be replace and asked me to contact my insurance company.
The last oil change was also done at a Hyundai dealer (a different one than the one that provided diagnosis). I checked my driveway and there are some oil stains, I haven't driven the car much recently and have recently moved into this place so am not sure if these are new or old. What are my options. I don't have the the thousands required for a new engine.
So I started getting this metallic/harmonic whining sound from my GTI's engine a few weeks ago. It was barely noticeable then, but has now gotten louder and more consistent. The sound occurs once the engine has warmed up and can be reproduced by holding the revs constant anywhere above 2k. The sound does not change in pitch with engine speed. It doesn't matter if the car is parked or moving.
I've attached a video... The sound can heard starting at 00:23 and becomes constant after a few seconds. Its hard to hear at first, but if you listen carefully its definitely there.
I have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow and will update with their findings. In the meantime, any clue as to what this could be? I can't really pinpoint where its coming from, seems loudest near where the oil filter is? By the way I'm 100% stock.
I noticed that the driver side front wheel makes a metallic scraping noise while the car is turning right. It sounds like something scraping the rotor or shield behind the rotor ( a rotational/moving kind of scraping noise)
This only happens on a relatively sharp turn (wheel is turned 70~80% to the right). I don't suspect the power steering as there is no noise if the car is not moving even when wheel is turned to extremes. The scraping noise happens at any speed, as long as the car is moving. does not happen when car is turning left.
Note that I am 90% certain it is from the front... my ears may be playing a trick on me (kind of hard to listen precisely while driving). Where to start looking?
So my brakes have been squeaking for the past week. Brought it in to the dealership. They said i need new front brake pads. I only have 22k miles on my 3is and that seems like a really look mileage for the breaks to be worn off. I dont track ny car and i pretty much drive slow. How long are your brake pads lasting? Is this normal for the 3is pads to wear off this fast?

Its definitely coming from the center console area, I can even move it a bit and its makes the squeak sound. On bumps something like a little plastic pebble feels like it rattles. I went to lexus and they couldn't really do anything about it. They said its normal when two plastics come together to squeak.

I noticed that when I warm up my battery (by starting the heat ventilator or other electrical equipment) for 10-20 seconds the car starts normally. The other thing I noticed that I have some white powder deposits on the top of my battery. There is no any other changes in the way my car runs.
View 2 RepliesProblem description: A loud metallic rattling sound from under the car under moderate to heavy engine load, only when engine/exhaust is/are cold. It is noticeable from within the cabin with the windows rolled up and the sunroof closed. Crack a window or the sunroof and it's pretty loud. The first time I heard I, I thought "this is not good".
This is not an octane ping or valve train noise. It sounds like a coffee can with marbles being shaken in concert which what might be the rapping of a V8 engine's exhaust. I had a Sunbeam Tiger that rapped in the upper rpm ranges and this reminded me of that but instead of rapping, it shakes a can with marbles.
There has been much discussion and speculation as to what causes this. It does seem to occur only with late - 04 and up V8 Touaregs with the "sport" exhaust that replaced the "std"(?) exhaust used on the majority of the 04s.
Observation: I looked very closely at the heat shields, looking for ways they could rattle. On the passenger side (LHD), the heat shield has three main sections:
- Front: around/near the secondary cat (tightly secured)
- Rear: around/near the rear differential (tightly secured)
- Middle: between the two mentioned above (loosely secured)
The three sections overlap a little where they meet. It was very easy to tap on the middle shield and make a loud metallic sound. I put my finger between the two shields (where they meet) to isolate the two metal pieces and tapped again, and the noise was gone.
Theory: The harmonic resonance of the exhaust under load vibrates the middle heat shield and it rattles against the front and/or rear shields. As the shields heat up, they flex enough to provide clearance between each other and the noise goes away. This may be unique to the "sport" exhaust if (and I am only speculating) the heat shields were changed (in design or fitment) when they changed the exhaust.
Experiment: I tried a very simple experiment. I slightly bent the edges of the middle shield (~1/2 inch) where it was coming in contact with the front and rear shields. The allowed me to tap rather hard on any of the shields without them rattling against each other.
Result: I make the tweaks to the shields Sunday night. When I drove to work this morning, I put the transmission in sport mode and ran WOT until it shifted. Normally, I would have heard the sound (very loudly) but it was gone. No metallic sound. Not completely convinced, I repeated the experiment on the way home and, again, the sound was gone.
Summary: It was cool out when I was going to, and from, work (64F) and this would normally be the perfect set up for making the sound. I think that tweaking the heat shield has solved the noise on my Touareg. I am tempted to go back under there and pop-rivet a little brace between the shields so that they cannot rattle against each other again. On the other hand, I may just leave it be and do the pop-rivets if the noise comes back.
Anyway, I was excited to find a potential solution for my Touareg and wanted to share it will you all. I will post back after a while and report how it goes in the long term. Lastly, I really liked being able to put the air suspension in xtra-offroad and get under the car (easily) without using a jack....
I started getting this weird sound after 10K miles service. I noticed it when i parked my car in the garage and the engine was off. I get this sound with or without turning the AC.
It sounds like a very fast tapping/clicking under the hood. (it is like a cooling sound but much faster) ..I don't think i got this kind of sound before. I don't know how to describe it.. Here is the youtube link: [URL] .....

I am feeling disappointed just came out of a lemon law suit with a kia optima I bought two years ago. I figured we'll I should buy a better brand this time which my brother recommended cause I was going to buy another Infiniti I always had good things with those cars. But the last 2 nights I have been hearing a squeaking noise in my rear end of my brand new IS 350 F Sport. Only in sport plus mode. I was driving home from work at 2 am and driving through a canyon road cause I want to see how this car does as soon as the road got a little bumpy I was hearing a squeaking noise come out of the rear of the car. Then I get home and I hear it going over my speed bumps in my complex of my condos. So I think we'll that's odd. I take it out of sport plus mode and back to eco and drive around the complex again and it goes away. Remind you I have 484 miles on the car.
