View 1 RepliesI was driving down the road tonight and have been hearing a hissing sound when accelerating and when I went out to get it audio of it to send to the VW dealer, I heard a loud noise, and now it sounds like I don't have an exhaust, the rpms aren't raising no where near what they should be, and have a gaseous smell.
View 14 RepliesAfter having the stereo replaced over the weekend, our car has now developed a whining sound that increases with rpm's. My wife didn't notice the whining sound until today, which means the car was driven at least around 100 miles between the installation and this morning when she noticed it after leaving the house.
It sounds the same as I've heard before when the alternator makes a noise through the speakers, however the sound doesn't sound as though it's coming through the speakers. With the Pioneer unit that we have, you can turn off the audio source, but I don't really see a way to completely turn off the unit.
I went down with the thought of removing the fuse for the audio system, however the manual states that at the time of writing, they couldn't document all of the fuse mappings and to refer to the dealer.
We have an appointment in the morning to have the dealer check out the noise, but if it ends up being the stereo install that caused the problem, I'm thinking they may charge me for the service visit.
Which fuse controls the stereo so that I can pull that to see if the noise stops?
I've noticed a noise coming from my car (2014 IS350 RWD) that sounds like a light, irregular rattle, when the engine is running in the 3500 - 4500 RPM range. I don't hear it necessarily under load, but if I am in manual mode in a lower gear, and let off the throttle, I can hear it.
The best way I can describe the noise is like a bowl of rice crispies (rapid and random), only slightly louder. You have to listen for it, the road/traffic should be quiet, and if you get back on the gas, the intake noise that's plumbed into the cabin pretty much covers it up. I can also hear it in Park or Neutral.... I've wondered if it's a loose heat shield, or an exhaust issue, but I can't hear it standing next to the car or with my head under the hood. I only hear it from the cabin. The rhythm of the noise is irregular.
I don't think it's ping/detonation, since that usually shows up under load, is much louder and has a decidedly metallic sound to it compared to what I'm hearing.
Where this sound is coming from? I notice it more when the engine hasn't been turned on in a few hours or so. It only happens at certain engine rpms, usually a bit higher than idle. It's a bit squeaky, per se, may need to turn up audio on the video below to hear it. May need to bring her in (just did a 30k service too..)
Possibly a belt of some sort? My AC is on at startup.
2.0T's having problems with fuel rails or fuel pump at 30,000 miles using GIAC chip. Just got back from induktion motorsports with a friend. He was having problems with fuel cut at about 4500 rpms. Holds boost up to 22lbs for some reason and then just drops down holding no boost at certain rpms between 5th and 6th gear getting on it. Car doesn't go past 80 mph until the turbo comes back (When it wants to) guys up at induktion said its prob the fuel rail or pump. They ran three different tests on the car and car still ran the same using the chip program (93 octane) and stock mode.

View 4 Replies1989 Saturn 5 speed, 4 cyl, 185,000 miles. Just started overrevving, when I try to go into 1st or 2nd or idle RPMS jump to 4500. So not a good thing. Do not tell me to buy a new car, not in the budget, or maybe it is.
View 6 RepliesJust got a 1996 Jeep cherokee with right hand drive, 73,000 miles. Drove it less than 2500 miles when had problems with it shifting out of first gear. Would rev up the rpms to 3500 to 4500 and then a large jolt before going into next gear. Took to transmission specialist who was able to get it to act up., Now he tells me that the transmission is an import??? (was manufactured here in states and sent to Japan) Can't get the codes on the machine to tell him what is wrong with the tranny., says the codes say it is ok. Now what do I do. I need this car as I am a mail carrier and it was bought for that purpose.
View 8 RepliesToday while driving the stereo simply cut/lost its sound. Radio and everything else still works buttons screen, just no sound. Turned the car off, it sat for 5 mins and turned the car back on. Sound came back for nearly 20 sec and then cut off.
Looking over the Lexus history the ML amp was replaced with what Lexus history shows as an upgraded amp per TSB about 30-40k miles ago if I recall.
The previous amp issues when it failed was the chipping noise, correct? Could I still potentially have a failed amp?
I have owned 2 SC and I notice both of the SC I have owned get a odd " hissing " sound, when the ignition is turned to the " On" position with the key located in the engine area, It will come on and then go off ...
Sometimes this " hissing " sound will come back on when driving and then off again ...

Was driving back home and the check engine light came on, these are the codes I got:
P0345: Camshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit (Bank 2)
P0365: Camshaft Position Sensor "B" Circuit (Bank 1)
P0390: Camshaft Position Sensor "B" Circuit
The car drove fine, didn't feel any power loss, I heard a very very low hissing sound but I honestly don't even know if it was always there or not... I did put some gas from a different station for once, so I doubt the fuel caused this?
I was trying to change my disk from 12.1 to 13.1 in my 2008 GS 350 AWD. so I ejected the disk via the screen, took it out and put the new one in. Started making a continuous clicking sound and then took the disk half-way out then in then totally out. Ok, maybe a bad disk so I tried to put 12.1 back in and same thing happened. Ok now I tired the original disk that came with the car. Same thing. Very odd. It worked fine up until the second I took it off.

The easiest way to hear it is to turn on HVAC and put the fan on the lowest setting so the sound of the fan does not interfere with the noise.

View 13 RepliesI have a 2002 Jetta GLS 2.0 4-speed automatic, 151,xxx miles... I have only owned it a couple of thousand miles, so I can't offer much on what is "normal"...
The issue I am having is as follows: I sometimes get a strange buzzing/hissing noise that sounds like it is coming from the engine compartment ~45 degrees to my right while driving. It's very hard to describe - the best I can say is it sounds a bit like a little plastic gear is spinning/grinding at high rpms, yielding a buzzing noise, and there is a hissing-like sound as a backdrop.
The sound happens only occasionally (but seems to be happening much more frequently, which is worrisome). I have heard the sound in different driving scenarios, so I can't say "it only happens when...". However, it DOES seem to be sensitive to throttle and driving conditions in some way. I have heard it while a shift is taking place, I have heard it under load on a long incline, and I tend to hear it right around 60mph. Interestingly, in the 60mph example, can make the sound go away by accelerating past 65, or by decelerating down to ~50... it seems like there is some kind of transition taking place at 60 that fosters the sound?
The transmission is generally functional - I had the fluid changed right after buying it (with the correct fluid), and it generally shifts ok. It does have some of the quirky behavior the transmission is known for: occasionally hesitates to go from R to D, sometimes shifts while driving are less subtle than they should be. But I'd say as a whole it operates as a 4-speed transmission would be expected to.
However, since this strange noise is getting worse, and seems to be related to shifts/load/andor speed in some way... I am worried about trans health. What to check? Because it is intermittent, and doesn't exist at idle and rarely appears when going around the block good luck getting a mechanic to observe it...
I sometimes have a weird idle. When my car is cold the idle is fine. When the car is warm the idle is fine. The idle only gets weird sometimes when I drive the car, park it for an hour or so, start the car again (temp gauge is about half way from complete cold start to complete warmed up) and I get a fluctuating rpm tach. It bounces around 50-75 rpms for a while. You can definitely feel it in the car and if you stand behind the exhaust you can here it slightly burp/hiccup. The car has 16k miles on it and it's a 2015. The gas mileage and performance has not changed. I don't know if it has done this since day one as I usually have my radio on. I heard it once now I make a point to see if it does it. I also don't have any CEL on.

After I got done with all of this crap on my Ranger, I noticed that it was driving great! But...today I was on my way to school and BAM! My engine idle started hitting (presumably because I do not have a tachometer) about 3000RPM and lowering down to about 2500RPM and from there, every time I am not in gear it decided to fluctuate between 2500RPM and 3000RPM. Crazy style too.
Now, I got to school, and getting closer to it at a stop light the truck basically died. It was almost at 100'ish RPM. I gave it gas, and BAM. I hear a continuous hissing noise from under my hood. Haven't diagnosed it fully yet because I just got home and its 12AM.
Now, every time I stop at a light or in traffic or whatever it may be, I have to give it gas every other second, like a small push on the pedal, to make sure the truck doesn't die. Also, every time I am out of gear and my RPM's are at an 'idle' state, I get continuous hissing from somewhere, I get no power loss or anything, just really weird idle RPM's and hissing when my foot is not on the gas basically. It is strange. I think It is some sort of Vacuum leak but I am not sure.
To get a better picture of the 'hissing' noise, it is the same hissing as you would hear when letting the air out of a tire. That is the best way I could describe it.
I have a 2014 Passat S 2.5 that I drove for a few months before I bought a Tahoe and my wife now drives the Passat. While I had it, it was paired to my phone. However, now that she drives it, every morning when she starts it, my phone buzzes because it's trying to make a connection. I read the manual back and forth, and I found out how to remove it, but unfortunately the MFD display in the middle of the instrument cluster isn't showing any phone info like the manual suggests. I also only have one set of steering wheel buttons, not both. So with this limitation, how in the world do I remove my phone from the stereo pairing?
View 2 RepliesI pulled out my Pioneer stereo from my 2004 before trading it in for the new 2012. From all my research and all, it should hook right up but I cannot get a switchable power supply at the harness. I can find one in the harness for the heater but do not want to cut into that one. What have you other Truckers done? Here is the wire harness I am working with. The Red is supposed to go the switchable power, yellow to constant and black to ground. The red from the stereo to the harness wire will NOT power the unit. I can get the stereo working if I put the red wire to the constant (yellow) but then the stereo will not turn off.
View 9 RepliesI just acquired this 2005 phantom grey Camry SE with the 3.3 V6. Has 60k on it. Whole car is mint, except for a the JBL stereo with 6 disc changer. It powers up, takes disk but no sound.
