When I started my car, there was this fishy smell coming out from air condition for about few seconds and then it was gone. I parked my car outside all the time and I was wondering if it had anything to do with the heat or because of exposing the car under the sun for too long? I just changed my air filter about 3000k miles ago.
View 6 RepliesI bought a new 2013 ES 300h. It only has 7K miles on it. When I first start it up for the day there is a moldy smell coming out of the vents for a few minutes. I've not taken it through any deep water.
Does it just need some new vent filters? What filters would be involved?
I've had the JoeZ axle back installed for about two months now. I noticed that the engine light came on initially when installing but it went away on its own. I got into an accident and after the repairs were done on my car the light was gone.
It soon came back on but i expected it was because my oil change was due
Got the oil change done and the light was off. Couple days ago the light came back on.
I called the Lexus Dealer and they told me that it might be due to the Gas cap not tight enough. Gave it a few twist but light still remained on.
For the past month, I also recently noticed a mildew smell coming from the vents when i start the car but goes away. Does the mildew smell + Check engine light mean that something is wrong with the exhaust?
Over the last few days, noticed immediately after starting car with AC on , slight mildew smell from the vents. Seems to last a few seconds then clears.
My Gen 3 is just over a year old with 10K miles. Most times my HVAC is set Auto/75/AC on, and use no special procedures to vent the evaporator with non/cooled air prior to shutting off the car.
I have a 2012 Toyota Corolla LE. When the A/C is first turned on, a strange, musty smell comes from the air vents. As the system cools, the smell changes slightly but never goes away. It has done this since shortly after I bought the vehicle. Dealer has checked cabin air filter and says it is OK.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2013 and after it sits for a day especially when it's warm the AC vents put out a moldy smell when starting. I've heard all the ideas of Turing off AC before shouting down engine but that shouldn't required for a Lexus of all cars. The dealer ran a refresh we thru the systems that worked for a few days but that was it. I've never had this problem with my 2004 RX. I also replaced the cabin filter with a charcoal based one. Seems a $45,000 vehicle shouldn't have this type of problem
View 14 RepliesWhen starting the RX, I smell something I would describe as "burning insulation". It happens only first 10-20 seconds after the air comes out from the vents, and then the smell disappears. The smell is stronger after prolonged parking. It is the strongest in the morning and less noticeable after I start the RX 2-3 more times ( I usually make 6-8 short trips during the day). The smell was very strong when I started the RX first time after it was parked for one week (while we went on vacation).
There are no warning lights, and the vehicle runs just fine. I pulled out the carbon cabin filter (changed about 3 mo ago) - it did not smell and was very clean still. I am hesitant to go to the dealer-afraid they will rip apart the dash, which they probably will not be able to put back together without having rattles and noises after.
The smell comes from the inside - there is no smell under the hood after I start the RX.
I am experiencing a strange rubber burning smell coming through their vents.

View 5 RepliesSo I've been noticing this winter that pretty much after every cold start a weird smell comes through the vents. To me it smells like natural gas, like the type found in some gas heating systems. It tends to go away after about 10mins. It may have also faded in and out once or twice when the car was running for an extended period of time.

I know its getting hot and humid here in midwest but kind of started before and smell got gradually worst with humidity. It goes away in like 15 seconds but its a pain to have a new/used care and it smell like a 16 year boy when you start up. Though the AC filter might be moldy or has some funk on it.

I will advise, I have the parking brake set to auto and the car seems to be functioning normally.

Basically what happened was after work I walked to my car and there were a bunch of guys who were meeting up in the parking lot and were complementing me on the car . I always let the car idle until RPM reaches 1,000 and I did that today and as I was driving off I decided to show off a little and I floored it . just for about 2-3 seconds. it was about 70 degrees out and the car was sitting in the sun so the engine shouldn't have been to cold
I know it is bad to floor a car on a cold engine, so my question is how bad could I have potentially damaged my engine? it was sitting for about 3 minutes and RPM idled out to 1 but the hot/cold bar hadn't risen yet. it was the first time I did it on a cold engine and I bought the car so I want to do whats right to keep it running smoothly.
I have a 2014 IS 350 F Sport AWD. Can the traction control be truely turned off? You can push the Trac-off button but at 32 mph it is disabled and traction control is back in the game. The manual is of no dice and I've looked at numerous forums with no luck.

View 7 RepliesI've had this in old cars before but not a car less than a year old ! I have 5,000 miles on mine and everytime I start the car this summer it smells like sour ammonia or mildew. I'm gonna take it in soon but was hoping there was an easy fix. Everything I've read seems temporary.

This is a first for me. Came in last night after my 140 mile commute and pulled into my garage and turned off my car ('16 IS350F). This morning(approx. 10 hrs.later) I went into the garage and heard a humming noise. I thought it was the refrigerator, but as I walked around the back of the car,it was obvious the noise was originating from the right rear. It sounded(to me) just like the fuel pump running,but that made no sense as it isn't on the "hot" battery bus...ie: it doesn't run until the accessory power is provided. I got in the car and cranked it....let it run for a couple of minutes and shut it down and the humming stopped.
View 5 RepliesI haven't been needing the A/C til recently due to the heat. When I have passengers in the rear and the A/C is set to just be body flow ( vs. body and feet), the rear blows but is noticeably weaker than the front. When I set it to both body and feet, the rear vents don't have any body flow and it is the same flow as when the rear is just set to feet. I went thru the manual and there doesn't appear to be anything incorrect (I am not in S mode) but the rear is just very weak in general with the controls on full.
