Ive seen this also on some 4runners. Ive had several vehicles many years old with no rust underneath at all and I check today and sure enough, some rust on the rear axle and in front suspension arms. I checked the lexus warranty and it is unclear whether this is covered.
View 14 RepliesI recently found rust on the rear axle beam, on both sides near the strut/shock absorber bolts. They are actually bubbling and the original black paints are peeling off. I brought it in to a dealer for inspection today, but they said it's only surface rust. Does this look like it?
I owned the car for 18 months but it did not look like this 6 months ago.
I bout a 2010 AWD LS460 in July and immediately noticed noises coming from the rear and front. The rear was a loud thud going over certain bumps and the front is making rattling noises. I lowered the windows and went down a rather bumpy block and the car sound like the bottom is falling out. I took it to the dealer and they had it for 2 and 1/2 weeks waiting on the rear air shocks to come in. They gave it back to me and did not address the front. Now the service manager is going away for two weeks and wants me to come back if I still feel the need to have the from done. The master tech stated the front left suspension needs replacing. I feel they are trying to drag this out so they dont have to pay for the repairs. The car has 80K and was bought from Bay Ridge Lexus and is not under CPO.
View 13 RepliesI washed and wax my wife's 2011 RX yesterday and I spotted rust around the edge of the taillight. It looks like part of the blister already break open and the other part just start forming. The car is Canadian build in Matador red mica color. Never been in any accident and never had any paintwork. I will take it in to Lexus dealer today for my SA to take an initial look. Hatch door rust issue on 3rd gen RX ??? I'm in shock that 4 years old car started to develop rust.
View 14 RepliesSo my strut mounts are shot and I wanted to add adjustable rear control arms to eliminate tire wear. So thinking of going with Bilstein HD's with the stock springs. Oh and BTW want to keep stock ride height since it is my daily. The only option I would consider for springs would be the euro version of the stock springs.
View 4 RepliesJust hit 225k with my 2004 Prius about a week ago. I passed inspection without replacing the (slightly) cracked rubber bushings for now, but what worries me is the cracks and a slight hole (it has not rusted completely through). Pictures attached. Should I do anything about this, and if so what?
Also, I've noticed that when I let go of the brake pedal, especially after a medium to the hard stop, I hear a squeaking... what's the cause for that? I know the front rotors have a bit of rust on the edges, but not sure if that's the cause... it seems to come from the back.
Other than that, the only other noise I've noticed is a slight clacking/tapping when the A/C is on, usually in hotter weather. The only thing I needed to pass inspection was to replace the muffler after a year and 1/2 ago, the last non-OEM part they put in at another shop was junk and rusted through pretty badly leaving a hole that was leaking. Ended up getting it replaced at the dealer with the OEM part this time...
I have an 07 GS350 RWD, 132K miles.
Symptoms: Very audible squeak from suspension front and rear (not as bad in the rear) when going over bumps. It happens mostly on the driver side. I can replicate the squeak when I push down on the car in the front. It only happens when the weather is warm, lately when it's been 60 degrees or less, it doesn't make any noise really.
Another squeak I'm hearing is when I get in the car first thing after it's been sitting a while, there's a squeak that's coming from mid-body area (I think), and happens when I turn right, transferring weight to the driver side.
I've searched and saw numerous threads but haven't really been able to get a clear idea of what may be causing this. I did have someone lube the control arm bushing (at least I think we did) and the noise did not go away. Car feels smooth, but I wouldn't rule out shocks as a culprit. I'm trying to get ideas and narrow things down so I can start hunting for it when I have free time.
Noticed a squeak noise from the rear suspension when going over big bumps or humps, even going in or out tall driveways?
View 14 RepliesI have a 2006 GX470. It has some sort of automatic rear suspension height adjustment. When it is malfunctioning the rear of the car is jacked up like I have pimped it out. I use the height adjustment button but when I resume driving the car moves back into the neutral position which is not neutral at all it is jacked to the top. I had the sensors replaced once for $1,000 but within a year it was doing the same thing.
Now the light flashes to lower the back end but the back end doesn't move. I am stuck in the jacked up mode.
I have a '58 F-100 4x4 with the Spicer model 24 divorced transfercase. The front end is out of a '64/'65 F-100.
It looks to me like the front axle has shifted forward and is tilted down. The shock mount are not even close to lining up in a manner that would allow shocks to be attached. It also looks to me like someone removed a leaf from both sides.
I already know the steering box needs to be rebuilt. What else is wrong....and how do I fix it?
When I drive over quick choppy bumps in pavement I get a rattle in the rear of the suspension, but only when the bump is on one side. When the bump is long and activates both rear wheels, like a speed bump or a large road crack I don't get the rattle.
The sound seems to be worse on the right side and I can't really figure it out. Anything specific I should look out for?
ok, its been 9-10 months now, and i have only 3500 miles on my gx.just looked at the back wheel wells.
The left side of the truck in the back is sitting about 1.5 inchs higher than the right rear? I measured the distance between the rims and the edge of the panel in the back. I am baffled. I raised it, lowered it, and still unequal height. Its going to the dealer on wednesday.
When I look into the brakes on the two rear tires, I see a good bit of rust on the discs. Should I be concerned?

View 1 RepliesMy 05 Caravan is in excellent shape with only 40k miles and noticed rust and paint bubbles only on the lower front side of the rear wheel well (drivers side). I live in Pa and wash the car after snow storms. Of course the car is out of rust warranty and the dealer said they can repair it but they do not know what causes it. I have seen this exact problem on other caravans and I have been told it is were the two pieces of metal are joined together, the wheel well seam, which causes the problem. We sealed the seam last fall with silicon when it was just paint bubbles and now it has gotten worse. My thinking is either we need to go back and look at the seam again as we only sealed the section that looked open or there is a leak from somewhere else in the van - the gas cap area or the area on the frame when the door is open is suspect to me. Basically I am asking if there is anywhere else I should look for this leak besides the wheel well seam?
View 7 RepliesI already paid deposit to a dealer to buy a 2012 RX350. But I just noticed there are lots of rust on the subframe and attached components at the the underside of the vehicle. I made a video, but I could not upload it due to the size of the file. I uploaded some pictures for you to see. One rust spot is on the real frame. Or there is no way to clean up the rust because the rust are already there? The mileage of the vehicle is 81,000 KM)?
View 11 RepliesWhen I bought my 2008 accent I had to replace the two front tires in order to pass inspection. I think the garage didn't notice that my rear tires were actually a different size. The entire summer season I had been running two 205/45/16's on the front and two 205/55/16's on the rear.
After the winter I took them to a different garage to take off my winters and they refused to put my summers back on.... is this a major issue to run the 205/55/16's on the rear axle and the 205/45/16's on the front axle? I know they fit but is there a real safety concern or the garage covering their own bases.
I bought a new 2014 RX450H in late December of 2013. The car has 5000 mikes on it now and today when cleaning the car, I noticed (hard to believe but true) 3 separate rust spots coming through the finish on the back hatch panel. I know I need to contact the dealer, but should I be screaming for a new body panel or just accept the fact the my new car has to be repainted? This is the 4th RX I have had. Never ever had a problem before.
View 8 RepliesSo I was driving yesterday and I hear a grinding noise near the front axle. I pull over and a plastic panel is hanging off near the front of the car. I go to the family mechanic to have him put it back on, and since one of the clips are missing, he tells me to go to the dealer to get a clip and have them fasten the panel.
This morning I go to the dealership. The service advisor gets me right on a lift and comes back about 20 minutes later with a slip of paper. He tells me that the piece is the door from the under body plastic protection that protects the oil reservoir. There are no sides of it that seem to have been ripped off a larger piece, just holes to be screwed in. He tells me the whole entire piece needs to be replaced, end of story. He did not offer warranty coverage (I have 20K on the car) and was not interested in speaking to me further on the topic. The parts desk pulled up a diagram of the car and showed me the panel as part of one big piece underneath that needs to be replaced.
I am going to seek out another dealership on this, but I wanted to pose this to you all as well. First, do I even need to replace this small piece of thin plastic? Second, if I do, can I buy just this small piece and not the entire under body panel. I noticed some threads about the poor design of the oil door, and perhaps this is what this is? I do not have access to a floor jack or garage, so all of my service (free toyota care) has been done at this specific dealership. Here is a pic of the piece.
I have 2014 gx 460 . I want control rear DVDs system in the font seat . But in screen don't show rear system . How can I do ?
View 8 RepliesExperienced a rear axle whine above 70mph? I've noticed a whine while just slightly on the gas above 70mph (maintaining speed). Does the GX have a regular ring and pinion set up or is it a more complicated affair?
