Lexus GX 2004-09 :: Vehicle Stopped Honking When Lock With Key Fob
Apr 14, 2015
My GX used to honk when I hit the lock button on the key fob. Now it locks the doors but there's no honk. The horn works when I press it.

View 7 RepliesMy left rear door actuator motor has stopped working and I have read about the repair of just the electric motor, BUT has anyone found the replacement of the little electric motor, Lexus wants a fortune because they want to sell you everything, cables, latches, it all comes in one bundle for 250 or so--Jeez. So hoping someone has the part number or place that we can get these little motors and just replace that!
View 3 RepliesThis is an annoying thing. for example when i just have to step out for 3 seconds and grab my mail I don't want to shut off the entire car and restart it.
1) Is there a way to leave the ignition running and get out of the vehicle and lock it?
2) I heard we can go to the dealer to enable the remote start feature, is this true? or would we need to do a 3rd party addon?
2008 lexus es350 i have
What is the range on your remote to lock or unlock your truck?
Mine is currently 30 +/- feet I recently replaced the remote batteries and saw no improvement.
On my Toyota it is 200 +/- feet easily..
I am just trying to determine if a trip to the dealer is needed.
2011 GX460 Premium I searched the manual and on-line manual.
1) How do I set the doors to automatically lock when I leave the vehicle?
2) Also, at night when I open the driver's door, the panel on the door is NOT illuminated making it difficult to unlock the door for passengers. This is a true safety issue. How can this be fixed and NO I do not want the door unlock operation buy handle touch or remote to unlock all doors.
The website [URL] ..... is valuable BUT the separate PDF manual sections is poor since it is difficult to jump around within the whole document. Each section of the document reference pages outside the current section. There is no easy way to know what section that page is in.
I have a 2008 Prius. I drove it around in Florida for a few days and everything ran great, but about 4 hours into the trip back to Minnesota, the red ! triangle light came on with a message on the display screen. It said "There is a problem with the transmission "P" lock mechanism Park your your car on a flat surface and fully apply the parking brake." This happened as I was driving, so I pulled over and did what it told me. After shutting down the car, I tried starting it back up and none of the gears worked. P, R, D, or B.
The message still displayed and the red ! light was still on. After shutting it on off several times, it finally started. No warnings. I found the nearest Toyota dealer and had them check it out. They found nothing but one short circuit, around the same time the warning lights would have gone on. I googled the problem, and it seemed like everyone was saying the problem is caused by a bad 12V battery, so I told the dealer to put in a new one. I was on the road again. However, the first stop I made for gas and sure enough, the light came back and I couldn't get it into a gear without restarting the car several times. I just hope I won't need to spend any more money on this 2 year old car.
I've looked around here and in my manual but can't find the procedure to turn off the "beeps" when I lock and unlock my car via the key.
View 2 Replies2010 ES350, 84,000 miles. I have seen many threads on door locking/unlocking issues but none quite like mine that I've been able to locate. The key fob stopped locking the doors a few weeks ago, neither will the lock button on the drivers door inside the car. No sounds, beeps, lights or mechanical attempts to lock the doors. There are no indicator lights or messages suggesting an issue.
I can go around and manually lock all the doors, hit the lock on the key fob, and the car will beep and light up as if the locks worked fine. I also manually locked each door separately and in all combinations, the only combination which will enable the beep as if the door locks work with the fob is if they are all locked. The fob will unlock the doors however, unlocking has not been an issue.
My first attempt to correct was to disconnect the battery for a few minutes, reconnect and they worked fine for a week or so. The next time, with all the same symptoms, disconnecting the battery did nothing, the fob, however did start working a day or two later. The third time it happened we took the car directly to the dealership who has had it for 5 days and have been unable to identify an issue (the fob started to work on day 3).
So my automatic door lock (set to 60 seconds in vehicle setting) stopped working for some reason. I double checked the setting and it seems to be on the right place. it was working fine before...
View 6 RepliesI have a 2004 Explorer 4.0L with 190,000 miles. My wife was driving it and the vehicle stopped moving. Sounds like the torque converter whining and will not drive in any gear or 4wd.
View 1 RepliesThe dear wife crashed our 2004 Prius, crumpling the entire bumper and left front side. The body shop has fixed everything nicely, with one small exception. There is no longer the reassuring beep(s) when using the fob to remotely lock or unlock the doors. The lights flash, as before, and the panic alarm still works.
View 2 RepliesI recently got a used 2007 prius as my first car; Unfortunately today the drivers side lock has stopped working. when trying to use the smart unlock, the Prius would beep many times, and the drivers door would not unlock (or lock for that matter). After getting into the car (with the mini key) I noticed that the inner lock button does not lock or unlock that door either.
All other doors function normally. The lock can be manually operated, so it's probably not mechanical.
So all but the driver door window switch stopped working including the lock and unlock buttons. The windows still go up and down but from the other door switches.
My best guess is the master switch is gone bad. And at over 65k I'm sure it's no longer under warranty. I called the local dealer today and quoted me over $500 and would not give me the part number.
After parking the car for 15mins and turned the car back on, decided to try again. Everything works now I haven't taken anything apart yet but now I'm curious what caused it to temporarily fail.
After 30 mins of the car being on I decided to roll the windows up but the switch was dead again.
Yesterday my horn started honking when I turned the wheel. At first I thought I had brushed the horn with the heel of my hand, but then I was careful and it continued to honk when I turned. My temporary solution was to disconnect the horns until I can get it to the dealer.
View 2 RepliesOur 2015 Prius 4 with 8,900 miles just suddenly stopped chirping and turning the lights off upon locking. The courtesy lights also no longer work (the lights worked last night as I approached the car but not tonight. The locking chirp/beep worked 3 hours ago but not now. Also headlights no longer go out after double clicking lock on either of the 2 fob.)
View 13 RepliesTHis week I made my wife drive me around while I tried to isolate the noise. Turns out it's coming from under the vehicle, right where the forward tie-down ring is on the right side of the back about 16 inches from the rear door. I thought it might be the ring so I got a wrench and took it off but the sound is definitely coming from under the truck. I crawled underneath but didn't see anything obviously loose.
View 10 RepliesI smell gas in the garage when first starting the truck. It's 2007 with 88k miles. I didn't do any general maintenance as bought it from the dealer and it shows oil change and other checks in the Lexus driver website.
View 3 RepliesSo I've read a lot of the threads, especially the write-up by alchemist in reference to a vibration and what to replace. Through a round about way, in the last few weeks I've replaced:
-both CV axles
-font lower control arms with bushings and ball joints
-all 4 struts (KYB) and mounts
-Tires, Michelin Premier A/S road force balanced and vehicle aligned
Brakes/rotors were done about 20k miles ago as well.
Car really rides nice now, but when I get it on the highway, around 75mph I start picking up a slight vibration through the steering wheel. I can also feel it in the car to some extent before 75. It is very consistent, always there regardless of road conditions or day I drive it.
What else this could be. It is driving me nuts and I've spent a lot of time and money to this point with no resolution. The last thing I can think of is possibly the steering rack and tie rods (mine is seeping a bit, 120k on the car, but I check the fluid level regularly and have not added any fluid in 20k miles)
Wondering if there is a way to lock the car while you step away (warm car up, go into gas station, etc.).
View 3 RepliesSince we bought the GX470 we have been plagued by obnoxious squeaking coming from somewhere in the rear of the vehicle. The squeaking occurs whenever driving over very bumpy roads or under hard braking and sounds like plastic on metal. While wiping down the windows I happened to bump the plastic shroud encasing the top of the rear hatch(barn door). This produced noise similar to that heard while driving.
I am thinking that there must be something loose in the rear hatch causing this terrible noise. There must be a way to tighten the plastic shroud up or add some foam insulation to get rid of the noise.
I bought my GX in Feb of this year. It is a 2009. Today for the first time I noticed that a red vehicle icon with a key inside it was flashing on the dash when the key was removed from ignition. I looked it up and saw it was a security icon showing the system was in security mode. I never had this light flashing until today.?
