Metallic rattle from behind the dash. Seems to happen when I am stopped at a light. rattle comes from behind the dash, doesn't matter if the fan is on or not. Sounds like a thin piece of metal if that sounds accurate.
Belt squeal. First thing in the morning, reversing out of the driveway and put in drive and I get a belt squeal from the engine. Adjust the tensioner or something else?
Have an '07 with 117k miles so well out of warranty. There is a very pronounced metallic rattle coming from the rear of the cabin when going over moderate sized bumps or listening to audio at moderate levels. Did some troubleshooting and have narrowed the noise down to somewhere above the rear center of the headliner. If I press slightly upwards on the headliner at this location, the noise stops.

My 2006 Prius now has 60,XXX miles and the other day while driving with the windows down, I was climbing a hill to my house and when the engine is at a certain RPM, there is a metallic sound that comes from under the car, but more in the front. You can't even hear it when the windows are up barley, but more when they are down, you can hear it, especially when you're beside a wall or guard rail and the sound can reverberate back.
View 2 RepliesLike many Prius, mine has suffered from a persistent dash rattle. The dealer fixed it once while it was still under warranty, and it took an experienced technician several hours to disassemble the dash, fix the rattle, and put it all back together again. Eventually it started rattling again, and I have just lived with it rather than spend the time tearing apart the dash. I figured that any fix would be temporary, and I would likely cause another rattle trying to fix this one.
Well, a couple of days ago we were driving into the city. The rattle was particularly obnoxious, and seemed to be growing in intensity. I pressed on the dash in several places to see if made any difference. The rattle got louder and looser sounding, and then went "Tink!", like the sound of a falling screw, and then went silent. I can only assume that somewhere under my dash there is now a wayward screw. Hopefully it won't cause a short, but at least the rattle is gone for now.
My 07 gs350 only has 67,000 miles on it, and I've only had it for 2 weeks. I've noticed a rattle in my dash, seems to be up where the front windshield meets it. It only seems to happen when I hit bumps, which is quite frequent. The roads here in Michigan are absolutely terrible. Also I have run flat tires on it, which I heard makes for an extra bumpy ride... Is this a known problem? If so what's it gonna run me to fix it? Or is it just these run flat tires that I need to change maybe?
View 13 RepliesMy 08 has this blinking red light with key logo on my dash, when I lock it through the key, it stays on and does not blink. No problem with starting, steering wheel, and keys has new batteries.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2007 RX400h. All of a sudden I see the airbag light on the dash and the passenger airbag off light always lit. It does not matter whether I am sitting in the passenger seat or not. I should easily weigh enough to turn on the passenger air bag.
I have a basic OBDII scan tool. It does not show any error codes.
I just got home from a 650 mile trip and I have pinpointed something I have been hearing for a while but couldn't figure it out. It's a very very faint rattle (something like the sound a hard drive makes) and it seemed to be coming from behind the dash. I experimented a little today and this is what I noticed.
It is actually coming from somewhere around the gas pedal and it only does it when you are neither accelerating or decelerating. In other words, when the engine is at equilibrium if that makes any sense. It's a tiny sound and I should just turn the radio on and forget it, but it's just one of those little things that bugs ya.
I recently purchased a certified pre owned 11 350 AWD and am noticing a dash rattle on the drivers side. It seems to be on the dash above the tachometer. If I apply pressure(w my hand) it seems to go away.
I know rattles come in all shapes and sizes but where would you start?

GX470 2007-31K. Today was stopped on a hill, when loose brake and I pressed the accelerator starts to sound a noise of hits by the area of the pedals and pull the slip light starts to Flash and until not for flashing the car does not accelerate.

I've read that a lot of the earlier models had an issue with the brake light switch that was causing the VSC, brake, and ABS lights to come on, but in his case it is only the brake light alone that is lighting up.
I drove my car downtown this morning. It was 7 degrees outside! - The windshield/dash rattle is no longer a rattle noise. It sounds like two Styrofoam boxes that are next to each other making a loud rubbing/creaking noise. I can hear it over the radio! I don't even have to go over a bump! Just turning in a curve in the road where the car leans slightly will produce this noise.
This problem is so un-Lexus like that I cannot believe it! - We are not talking new technology here folks! Cars have had Windshields and Dashes for over 80 years. Lexus had this problem solved when they released their first car! I have never owned a car that has done this. I am betting even a Yugo would not have this problem!
My car is going to the dealer on Monday to fix this problem. Luckily my dealer has said they have fixed this problem before and have never had it re-occur. We'll see about that! This is the only thing that is wrong with my GS350 in over a year of ownership. What I cannot believe is that Lexus knew about this problem in 2006 vehicles and it is still there in 2007! This is not rocket science! I will be very interested in hearing if this problem is truly corrected in the 2008 models!
I have a 2013 GS, RWD. 33k miles. This is my third Lexus. Wife owns an 05 GX that we will drive till it dies. Had a 2010 RX also. The problem I'm about to describe occurred on the RX and now this GS which makes me crazy. The bottom line is that I have an intermittent noise that comes from the center of my dash. It sounds like someone is clicking a PC mouse very, very fast. It sounds like it is coming from behind the navigation. I've had it to the dealer multiple times and gone all the way to corporate.
The problem is that I have a Murphy's Law situation in that it doesn't occur on demand. I've even sent them a video of the noise but since they don't hear it themselves they won't touch my dash to fix it. Since it had this same noise now on two different vehicles I know it is a manufacturer problem and not just one vehicle. Both cars have navigation.
There's a creak/rattle under my dash on the passenger side. I know these cars are prone to have these problems and I'm probably lucky that this is the only one with 120K on it. What it may be before I start pulling the dash apart and doing trial and error?
View 7 RepliesI kept hearing some noise for quite sometime on rough roads, but never on highways. I thought it is related to suspension and kept complaining to the dealer and they would promptly come back with everything is alright. During the weekend I went to a different dealer and mentioned about the noise and the tech did the test ride and immediately pointed it out as dash rattle. The tech was able to place his hand on the dash close to the windshield (slightly to the right of the steering wheel) and the noise stopped on the rough roads. I have 97K miles right now on the car and I have the extended warranty I shared this with the service rep and he is going to let me know if it will be covered.

View 3 RepliesI have a Lexus RX 330 2004 which I recently made some changes to the front end suspension, since then, my car beeps whether i turn or I drive even in straight line beyond 40MPH. The beep comes along with a light in dash with an icon of the car with curves.
I have read something referring to a zero calibration. Which pins to short to perform the calibration? Since I don't have the lexus diagnostic tools, I heard its the CG and TS pins but What pin numbers are the on my 2004 AWD RX 330?
Problem: rattle between dash and windshield, mostly in cold weather when going over bumps, road expansion joints, etc. Dealer quoted about $1200 to remove dash and reinstall with some new clips. Car is out of warranty.
Parts to fix: 1 piece of craft felt, a square foot of it. Color not important. 50 cents. I clean putty knife that is NOT sharp (a plastic one is great).
Cut: Felt into a few 3 inch wide long strips, then fold lengthwise, in half.
Insert: Felt into area between dash and windshield with putty knife, pushing into the fold, until felt disappears from view (this is why color doesn't matter)
Drive: the car a bit to see if you fixed it. If not, put another strip next to the one you did, or another one on top of the one you just did.
Worked for me. Clean, cannot see the felt, easy.
I own a 2011 IS350 RWD. My 4 year warranty just expired. So when it comes to rattles, the 4yr/50k miles no longer cover my rattle concern.
I spent about my 3rd year on a rattle that seems like only occurs when its cold. On cold days/morning, this rattle between the dash will come and it sounds like a bolt is loose, and is moving around or something like that along the lines of that.
So right before my 4th year mark came, I brought it in one last time to hope they can get rid of it. Once I got the car back, it was during winter.. so it still happened, but instead it was a lot louder than before.
Is there anything I can do? Since I've been trying to bring it in to get it checked out for a good year, I'm hoping there's a way for the dealership to honor that one concern I have with my IS.
Other than this rattle, I love my car. The rattle can get pretty bad/annoying especially when you're on a phone call. I bring this issue up during every oil change to get it checked out.
So I have some road resurfacing happening near my home which I've been driving through recently. One thing that I've begun hearing is a rattle that sounds like it's coming from the center speaker area on my dash. I have the ML system so not sure if the standard audio package has this speaker. I'm not 100% that it coming from the speaker but it's somewhere towards the center of my dash.
View 2 RepliesI bought the 2013 GS 350 F-sport thinking it would be a long lasting reliable car.... I've had brake squeal since day one. My car now has 45k miles on it, all miles driven with the insanely loud brake squeal. It's been to the dealership many times but they've change the brake pads only once and refused to resurface or swap the rotors. After I called Lexus corporate and filled a case, I finally got the managers attention. (1800-25lexus for those in need)
The manager tells me that the brake squeal can be caused by the drivers driving pattern. He basically said that if you don't drive hard enough or maybe even drive too hard, the rotors will glaze over and you will get squeal. -so let me get this right, I have to drive a certain way all the time so I don't get brake squeal? - Long story short, he asked me to come in again so he can see the squeal himself.
Aside from the brake squeal..
-My front and rear passenger side shocks blew out and were replaced at 20k miles.
-I've had a rattle in my passenger side dash since 10k miles that the dealer refuses to fix. They say trying to fix it will cause more rattle.
-My back up camera is now pointing too low. Every time I go in for a fix it just ends up happening again after the fix.
-My rear view mirror is loose.
I can deal with the small things but that damn brake squeal is so loud that it actually pierces my ears when I brake next to a car with my windows down.. Brake squeal has now started on my sisters 2014 is350 f-sport as well. How I can fix the brake squeal so I can sell the car?
