My low fuel indicator isn't working and I'm wondering if there's a way to initiate a bulb check without OBDII?
Looking for options prior to pulling the cluster to look for a bad bulb.
Ran it pretty low this morning, distance to empty indicating 24 miles and fuel gauge on "E" - would think it should be on.
Realize it may not be a bulb but that's an inexpensive fix.
The low fuel indicator light has quit working on my 1999 Honda Civic. My wife ran out of gas one night and I want to fix it. The fuel gauge itself still works.
I removed the instrument cluster and found that the bulb does work.
I got to the top of the gas tank by swinging the back seat bottom cushion out of the way. I unplugged the three electrical connectors there and inspected the wiring. It all looked OK and I plugged things back together.
It will take some driving to get to a low-fuel condition and see if the light is somehow working now. If i does not, what next? Replace the fuel gauge sending unit in the gas tank? (It seems the switch that turns on the low-fuel indicator light is incorporated in that unit - is that right?)
We have an 04 GX-470. Most of the time the fuel gauge and the range readout work OK. However, sometimes, the fuel gauge works, but the range shows 0 miles, or they both don't work - fuel gauge shows empty and range = 0. My wife says she thinks she's seen the gauge = empty but the range still showing xxx miles - I haven't seen that.
We've been to 2 different Lexus dealers, paid for diagnostics at both and gotten no fix. In fact, they have both said they can't find anything wrong.
To my way of thinking, these would both get their initial information from the same source - some sort of sender unit on the fuel tank. However, as both gauges do not always go out together, I'm inclined to think that this probably isn't the cause. I would think that the range readout comes from some calculations done by the onboard computer.
I bought a new IS 250 F-sport 2 weeks ago and the tire indicator drives me crazy. The low tire pressure light on twice in a week. I added up to 36pis (Recommended Pressure) and all tires went down after a few days. I went back to Lexus today for tire pressure. Every tire is okay but tire pressure is low only. Btw, my gas indicator did not rise up after I filled gas. The indicator started to rise up after I drove about 2 miles. Is that normal for a new car?
View 11 RepliesMy daughter texted me today to inform me that her gas gauge indicator no longer reliably displays the fuel level. She's filled it up 3 times this week and the gauge still shows 1 bar. There are no other display anomalies: the speedo and other indicators appear to be normal. This 2008 has never had the combo meter changed and it's out of warranty since it's a salvage title.
View 8 RepliesI just picked up a 2004 F150 FX4 Supercab, I had a safety inspection done and am working through some of the issues.
The turn signal indicator on the passenger side mirror is not working (front and rear indicators work). I took the mirror apart and get no voltage to the led array, next I pulled the rubber boot off of the harness in the door jam and probed the wires while with a test light and found one of the wires would blink the test lest light but the colour didn't match the the turn signal array, it matched the heated mirror wire. I probed at the heated mirror connector at the mirror and sure enough it blinks! Then I notice that the heated mirror indicator light on the center dash is blinking? I push the heated mirror button below the indicator light and ALL turn signals (front and rear) stop.
I searched the forum for mirror turn signal issues and found a thread about corroded wire splice below the fuse panel. I checked and have no splice all look ok so I thought I would post and see if I can get some direction or a schematic.
The symptoms are :
- Passenger side mirror turn signal(right turn) indicator does not work
- front and rear turn signal indicators work
- power seat works
- fuses are good
- drivers side all turn signals work fine
- heated mirror indicator light on the dash blinks with the passenger side turn signal
- pushing the heated mirror button when turn signals are flashing (right turn) results in a solid heated mirror indicator light but all other right turn signal indicator stop blinking (off)
It seems to me that there must be a short between the two circuits but where?
Noticed the warning indicator on dash, linage of a battery, this morning. Thought maybe battery needed to be replaced? So got replacement battery and installed it, but warning light still on.

diagnose the problem with my wires 2007 Lexus GX470. The Check Engine light and the VSC Trac/Off as well another light that looks like someone is driving there car drunk came on today. I took it to a repair shop and the read the codes. I have the following codes:
P 1441
C1201
C1223
C1241
First, is it safe to drive? Second, what is the indicating the problem is? Third, any way to fix this myself?
I just bought a 2006 gx that has been lifted about 3" with old man emo springs. The ride height adjustment was removed and the adjustable shocks replaced with a larger non adjustable model.
The rims and tires were also replaced. I think the rims are 21" and the tires 33". The running boards were also removed and the wheel wells opened up a little.
The tire pressure indicator light is on all the time as the new rims and rubber don't link up to the sensor. This I can live with.
I tried it out today on a dirt road (Ophir Pass, Colorado) It worked great but about 200 yards in the check engine, and all three ride/safety system warning lights came on. (stability and slip sensors).
The car performed flawlessly, but the lights remained on even after I got to pavement. I did stop and check, oil, temp, coolant, etc when they came on and all seem to be fine.
I suspect it has something to do with either the oversized tires or the disconnected shock and height systems. How to get the lights to turn off?
2005 GX470.After returning home my wife parked the GX470 in the garage. She returned 30 minutes later and noticed the headlights were on. She also noticed the immoblizer light was blinking.
We always keep the headlights in the "auto" position. Headlights staying on is a little strange. but I recall the lights staying on once or twice before. Immoblizer light flashing has never happened.
I inserted the key and turned to start the car and the light went out and the GX started fine. Once I remove the key, the light starts blinking again. I tried this with both keys to make sure it wasn't a transponder issue--all keys did the same as above.
I checked battery voltage--12.4v. Charging--13.6v at idle Some light corrosion around the negative cable but not too bad. cleaned anyway Wife did say she came out of work and noticed that two different car alarms were going off that were right next to her car. Possible kids messing around. Maybe our car was going off as well?
I have a 2007 GX470. My range indicator was showing 34 miles left. I filled up the tank and at first my fuel guage still showed E and range was showing 34 miles. I shut off the car and the fuel gauge started showing a full tank but my range still showed 34 miles. As I drove, the range decreased to 0 and it is still showing 0 for the range. How can I reset this so that it will show the correct range? I asked the dealer if there is a reset for it and they said you can bring it in and we can diagnose it for $100.
View 2 RepliesRX 400H 2006 model. After 130k km, the car suddenly stopped with check hybrid warnings. The one and only lexus dealer in Greece replaced the hybrid unit due to failure of the power module. ( the car was on recall but they have never contacted me). After the replacement there was a rattle sound coming from the combustion engine when it was running on the morning for 3-5 min.The new inspection of the dealer showed a crack on the head gasket of the 4th cylinder.( I have post it here under a different username) .
The options that I was given was either to have the engine replaced with a used one or to fix the old engine. The cost of fixing was triple of finding an engine. So I purchased a used one (via ebay!) , it was from a car issued in the United Sates. The one and only dealer refused to put it on my vechicle because it was not going to fit and work due to different electrical wiring . So I found a mechanic who managed to put on the us engine easily and with no issues except from a yellow light that goes on seconds after staring the ignition key.On the diagnostic tool shows a warning about ABS system although the brakes are ok and ABS works fine. The car is running after engine replacement for 25k km with no problems. I attach a photo of it.
So it seems as if either the switch in the driver's side seat belt indicator is sticking (off, indicating my seat belt is NOT fastened even though it is), or it's broken. Although, it doesn't do this EVERY time I fasten my seat belt, it's doing it more frequently. I have to refasten it (multiple times) to get it to see it's fastened.

View 8 RepliesYesterday my fuel gauge stopped working it is pegged all the way to the left. I filled up the truck no change. Got home and my garage door opener would not work and when sitting in car the map lights wont come on, the overhead lights work when you open the door. Cannot find any reference to what fuse any those items are connected to. is there a fuse for the fuel gauge?

And some times the fuel bar just goes down and goes up. What is the reason, why it happens?
View 11 RepliesI have a hyundai accent 2005 vehicle and there is no Low warning fuel indicator in the vehicle. My entire fuel tank ran dry still there was no low fuel warning light. According to my mechanic there is no low fuel indicator installed in the fuel pump

On my 2002 Santa Fe, the gas gauge moves slowly after filling up. It takes about a minute or two for the gauge to reach full. I'm not sure if this is normal or not but the more troubleshooting I do I'm starting to think it is. Need to confirm this?
Also, the low fuel indicator never comes on. I disconnected the connector from the fuel pump and jumpered pin 1 to pin 5 and the light did come on (after turning the key on). I replaced the sending unit (driver side only) but the light still doesn't come on. The only other thing I could think of was dirty contacts so I cleaned them really good. Still no light. What else I can try?
How do you know if the inverter coolant pump/reservoir is bad after the recall was performed?Since it doesn't produce any codes but can reduce the electric-drive if getting too hot, how do you convince Toyota to give it a second look?
