Lexus GX 2004-09 :: How To Get Rear Airbags Out
Jan 23, 2015
Well my rear bags are starting to leak so I ordered them. Now I can't get the air lines off without a Toyota SST 09730−00010. How did any of you all get them out?

View 8 RepliesI don't know how to get the rear air bags out? I pulled the fuse, removed the shock. Lowered the axle. It seemed to be binding on the air hose. But it was dark and hard to see. Raised it back up and put the wheels back on. I am hoping they deflate overnight.
What is the process for getting them out?
Do I need to worry about the brake lines being stretched when I drop the axle enough to put the new springs in?
Do I need to remove or loosen anything else? Sway Bar?
Glad I quit, But without a book I am worried. I thought it was simple. The fronts only took a couple hours. Now I am stuck on the simple.
Is it possible through VAG-COM to disable them on 2006 passat? Going to be having my second son soon and both car seats are going to be right next to them. I've never had any bad luck when it comes down to airbags going off. Still don't want to risk my sons safety. Also not sure but would this need to be done at a dealership because of a lawsuit possibility?
View 8 RepliesFriend of mine (whom I referred to Lexus) just bought. 15' GS on Friday. Friday night on the way home from the dealer (1 1/2 hour) he hit a 220-250lb 6-point buck/deer on the back road sometime after midnight, not even 3-4 miles from home. He is wondering whether or not insurance will total car. From the looks of it i'm hoping so too and all airbags have been deployed except front right passenger side. I would hate to take a brand new leased vehicle that never even made it home after repair.
View 14 RepliesI am attempting to replace my antenna base and while removing the headliner I noticed the airbag curtain on the side posts. They are taped up and folded up like an accordion, but I was concerned that they might deployed if disturbed. Need to know whether or not they will release.
View 2 RepliesI just bought a 2006 Prius at an insurance salvage auction. I do not have the car yet for more exact details other than what I'm going to describe. The car was listed as a collision with rear damage, it doesn't have a mark on it other than a flat rear passenger tire. No front or side damages yet the driver and front passenger air bags deployed. I was wondering if the previous owner slid into a curb and if there is some sensor to trigger that. The auction listing said it doesn't start or move.
View 19 RepliesSo I am not sure if this is coincidence or not but... I just got done adding new stuff to my stereo in my 2006 Corolla Xrs. In the process the SRS light came on for the airbags. I took it to the dealer and was told it was the seat belt pretentioner. The dealer told me to check and make sure I did not hit any of the wiring when adding my stuff. I checked no wires or anything were cut that I can see. So, How do I fix this and what exactly does the seat belt pretentioner do?
View 13 RepliesI'm new owner of 2003 GX and just tried to play a DVD in the rear seats for the first time. DVD loader is below glove compartment, passenger side, and monitors are in the headrests. Was able to get power on via the remote, and load the DVD, but could not get the rear screens to come on or the DVD to play. Perhaps the little white rear seat remotes weren't working? Is there another way to get it all going once the DVD is inserted? Couldn't find anything in our owners manual that explained.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2004 GX470. Been a great car. Has 310k miles and very little in repair. My current problem is the rear air suspension leaks down. The problem is not 100% of the time but probably 80% when the car is left parked and off, over a few hours the air is released and the rear is sitting on the bumpers. My theory is it is not the air bags as if one leaked it would be doing this every time the car sits.
My hunch is it is either the component that releases the air is not sealing up every time after it releases the prescribed air when the car is parked. ( That sound it makes when you get out and it lowers the car a little each time) ... Or the sensor tells that component to let more air out and it does not tell it to stop.
Had rotors and pads replaced 40,000 miles ago at brakes plus. I went in last week to have them checked and the front pads were almost like new but the rear pads were down to 2mm and now they have to be replaced.
View 5 RepliesMy 2006 GX470 just has 82,000 miles on it, and the rear shocks are already out. This vehicle only drives normal roads, nothing rough. It is ten years old, and sits outside. Still, I don't get it.
View 9 RepliesI used the above referenced harness on my 04 Lexus GX to install a Pioneer Avic 7000NEX. The radio sounds great and most everything works as it should. However, I am getting no sound from the rear speakers. I connected the harness as instructed (quadruple checked the connections).
View 2 RepliesWell, I am approaching 80k miles and the ride in my 04 GX470 had gotten very bouncy. So I had a mechanic friend run a diagnostic check and the right rear sensor was malfunctioning. My friend recommended to replace both rear sensors but my wife is "frugal" so we only replaced the malfunctioning unit. Well a month or two later we are back to the bumpy ride. I haven't had my friend check it out yet but I'm guessing either the other sensor or both are malfunctioning now. Now I don't want to get into a fix part "a" of suspension and part "b" malfunctions soon after.
View 2 RepliesDisconnected battery and all the switches in the dash, including on/off in glove box. So that's what caused the problem. Now to fix it. I re-connected battery and all switches, bit hatch won't open with key switch or any switches in car (at door or in front dash). I did manual open and close without any result., the button in glove box is pushed in.
View 3 RepliesHad a question about the rear a/c cooling on my 2009 GX 470 - the last few days have been nice enough to warrant using the A/C. I noticed though, that the 4 rear vents seem to not be producing any cool air - kind of a problem when I have an overheated Boxer dog that would love some cool A/C. Any thoughts? I have the rear A/C on, all the way to the - or minus sign and the fan speed to Auto.
View 7 RepliesI'm in the process of changing pads and rotors on all 4 wheels. I've done all brakes and rotors, except that I'm stuck on the driver rear. The driver rear rotor won't come off!
Here's what I've done so far: I've used the metric jack bolts (I didn't buy the long ones) and that freed up some rust, with pb blaster. Now, the rotor comes out a bit, and I'm able to move it around, and the rotor comes forward a little bit towards me. It's so wobblily that it seems like it is about to come out. The rotor isn't solid stuck on, like most threads I've read.
While hammering, I think a piece of hardware of the parking brake fell down on the ground. Do u think that the parking brake is not allowing the rotor to come off? If so, I was reading online that there is some way to release the parking brake via a hole though the rotor, but I'm really not familiar with this. I'm not even sure if it's the parking brake that's not allowing the rotor to come off.
So I'm swapping in a Black headliner for a friend and I've had no trouble with mine in the past, but his car has the A and B pillar airbags. I have the Positive Cable disconnected from the battery, how should I go about it.
View 14 RepliesSo my rear air suspension just went out, I'm assuming that my air bags have a leak or a hole because the air compressor shut its self off. I'm thinking of just getting rid of the air system completely and just putting on some good shocks and leveling it out.
View 7 RepliesExperienced a rear axle whine above 70mph? I've noticed a whine while just slightly on the gas above 70mph (maintaining speed). Does the GX have a regular ring and pinion set up or is it a more complicated affair?
View 14 RepliesI have a 2007 GX 470 that I use to tow a boat ~3500 lbs. Typically, when I attach the boat to the trailer hitch, the rear end of my GX 470 will lower ~1.5", then the air suspension will activate and bring the rear end back up to a nearly level position. Lately, the air suspension has quit working.
I've taken it to my dealership, they've checked it out and told me that the system is working fine. When I brought it home and attached the boat, the air suspension is still not working. I've got an appointment on Monday to haul the boat up to the Lexus dealer and show them the problem. I can use the air suspension switch to raise the the rear end and the pump seems to work just fine.
I'm thinking that, although the "system" is working fine, somewhere there has to be a sensor or switch that tells the system to work - that isn't working.
I just did timing belt and driver rear window wont go up. light flashing at switch. Rest all others nogo on this one. Disconnect battery and try again ?
