I smell gas in the garage when first starting the truck. It's 2007 with 88k miles. I didn't do any general maintenance as bought it from the dealer and it shows oil change and other checks in the Lexus driver website.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2009 model Toyota Prius. There is a smell of chemical or gas inside my vehicle when I first get in. By "gas" I mean "gas" and not "petrol". So if it is a chemical from the battery for example, it smells like natural gas. I have been delivering phone books from my car in acreage which caused me to start and stop the car every 200 meters for about an hour. I only noticed the smell after I delivered the phone books. I searched the Prius Chat forum last night and read that stopping and starting for a lengthy period is bad for the battery. Should I ignore the smell and wait for the battery warning light to show. And if the battery warning light does flash, which battery would it relate to and is there a different warning light for both batteries? I have booked my car into the Toyota service center tomorrow but think I might cancel. They will probably run a diagnostic and see nothing as they will just interpret a number from a computer. They will predictably sniff and smell nothing ... and then I will pay them the service fee for nothing.
View 2 RepliesI've had this in old cars before but not a car less than a year old ! I have 5,000 miles on mine and everytime I start the car this summer it smells like sour ammonia or mildew. I'm gonna take it in soon but was hoping there was an easy fix. Everything I've read seems temporary.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2013 and after it sits for a day especially when it's warm the AC vents put out a moldy smell when starting. I've heard all the ideas of Turing off AC before shouting down engine but that shouldn't required for a Lexus of all cars. The dealer ran a refresh we thru the systems that worked for a few days but that was it. I've never had this problem with my 2004 RX. I also replaced the cabin filter with a charcoal based one. Seems a $45,000 vehicle shouldn't have this type of problem
View 14 RepliesMy car has three codes P0102 - MAF or VAF Low Circuit Input, P0030 & P0050 which are signaling O2 sensor issues.
Car symptoms are a hiccup type sputter when accelerating for the first few times after starting the vehicle. The RPMs will drop down under 1000rpm and it will come back without taking my foot off the gas. The power comes back faster if I flutter the pedal. The last few times it stalled while taking off.
After the car is warm, it runs better smoother. I'm also noticing slightly poor fuel economy. The exhaust smells rich to me.
I'm wondering if there is a fuse that could cause all three codes? Seems like a power problem? Where is the fuse for these sensors?
Should I replace MAF? Can I use the MAF from a 2004 2.4L engine that's at the junk yard? How to proceed.
THis week I made my wife drive me around while I tried to isolate the noise. Turns out it's coming from under the vehicle, right where the forward tie-down ring is on the right side of the back about 16 inches from the rear door. I thought it might be the ring so I got a wrench and took it off but the sound is definitely coming from under the truck. I crawled underneath but didn't see anything obviously loose.
View 10 RepliesSo I've read a lot of the threads, especially the write-up by alchemist in reference to a vibration and what to replace. Through a round about way, in the last few weeks I've replaced:
-both CV axles
-font lower control arms with bushings and ball joints
-all 4 struts (KYB) and mounts
-Tires, Michelin Premier A/S road force balanced and vehicle aligned
Brakes/rotors were done about 20k miles ago as well.
Car really rides nice now, but when I get it on the highway, around 75mph I start picking up a slight vibration through the steering wheel. I can also feel it in the car to some extent before 75. It is very consistent, always there regardless of road conditions or day I drive it.
What else this could be. It is driving me nuts and I've spent a lot of time and money to this point with no resolution. The last thing I can think of is possibly the steering rack and tie rods (mine is seeping a bit, 120k on the car, but I check the fluid level regularly and have not added any fluid in 20k miles)
My GX used to honk when I hit the lock button on the key fob. Now it locks the doors but there's no honk. The horn works when I press it.
View 7 RepliesSince we bought the GX470 we have been plagued by obnoxious squeaking coming from somewhere in the rear of the vehicle. The squeaking occurs whenever driving over very bumpy roads or under hard braking and sounds like plastic on metal. While wiping down the windows I happened to bump the plastic shroud encasing the top of the rear hatch(barn door). This produced noise similar to that heard while driving.
I am thinking that there must be something loose in the rear hatch causing this terrible noise. There must be a way to tighten the plastic shroud up or add some foam insulation to get rid of the noise.
I bought my GX in Feb of this year. It is a 2009. Today for the first time I noticed that a red vehicle icon with a key inside it was flashing on the dash when the key was removed from ignition. I looked it up and saw it was a security icon showing the system was in security mode. I never had this light flashing until today.?

Currently I've got the 18" from the Gen 2.. which is 17x7 +35 114.3PCD.
Do you reckon it'll clear.. I'm guessing it'll be okay, how about caliper clearance?
Over the last week my GX has developed a strange issue. It sometimes takes 3 or 4 tries of turning the key before the engine fires up. It turns over strongly and quickly but it isn't "catching". The weird thing is, it doesn't happen every time. Here is what I have noticed:
1) Leave the vehicle parked overnight - no issues starting. It starts right up.
2) Crank the vehicle after having only been off a few minutes (like after you run in to pick something up at the grocery store) it cranks right up.
3) Let the vehicle sit for between 1 and 4 or 5 hours and the problem appears. It turns over and over and over but won't actually start. Anywhere between the 3rd and 5th turn of the key it will finally catch and actually crank.
In all cases, once it cranks it runs smoothly and normally with no issues.
I have replaced the battery thinking that was the issue but that did not fix the problem. Also strange is the fact that this problem occurred after I replaced both front door speakers, an operation that required me to have one or more doors open for an hour or so at a time (hence why I thought it might be a weak battery).
I have a 2009 GX 470 and need to set up my easy exit (where seat goes back when car turned off and key comes out). I keep seeing posts that say got to the set up button and click on vehicle. I see a set up menu button but when I click that there is no vehicle option.
View 2 RepliesMy parents have a 2006 RX330, and I decided to see how their traction control works, so I tried doing a quicker acceleration on a sharp turn to see how it would react.
I found that the vehicle started to slightly tilt and beeped, making it seem like the traction control wasn't activating at all (unless its only function is to beep).
Is this normal?
Slight squeal while steering the vehicle to the limit of it's turning radius? I've just begun to notice this recently on my 07 GX... mainly when I'm pulling into a parking spot at slow speeds. Is this normal or should I have it checked out at Lexus dealer?
View 3 RepliesI recently purchased a 09 Silverado with 73,000K and have periodically noticed a faint Antifreeze smell outside the vehicle near the engine when I park it in the garage. I cannot find any leaks and have not added any coolant. It does not smell inside the truck. Could a pinhole leak do this and not easily show up? Any way to test for this.

View 5 RepliesI have done some reading of past threads regarding both Gen 7 Camry with people having an issue with a strong smell coming from their vents after perhaps 1K miles or less on their vehicle. Looks like some people had it fixed (some fixing it by themselves) while others continued to experience the problem. Similar thread regarding Toyota Camry Hybrid but only brief thread. Then another thread regarding perhaps another smell like from plastics /battery (?) in Prius while I was on the Prius threads.
Has this problem been addressed/resolved either by Toyota or by owners who simply fixed it themselves? I also do not know if the Prius offensive odor (someone who was testing them noticed it while test driving) is a totally different thing (like I say someone said it was from plastics or battery itself, not sure.... )
These are things I never even thought of /considered when looking for a new vehicle, and never experienced in my older Camry.
I am experiencing a hard brake pedal about every other day if the car sits overnight. I know I am not depleting the vacuum supply before I exit the vehicle by pressing the brake pedal. Some mornings the pedal is very hard and barely moves and other mornings it's normal. My brake booster vacuum check valve hose assembly was replaced to try and fix the problem but it still does it. I also know my electric vacuum pump works correctly. Is it normal? Do I have a small leak in the brake booster vacuum diaphragm? I have no other brake feel issues.
View 8 RepliesI am hearing a new beep sound (It's a quick double high pitched beep) when I start my car. What it could be? I do not see anything that indicates there is an issue with the car (i.e. no warning lights) but it double-beeps every time I start it now.
