I am a second owner to a 2008 GX Blizzard Pearl that I love. Have had the truck 4 years.
Truck has 83k miles. Is it time to change the timing belt, water pump, etc? Has never been done.
Aircon issues. Freon leaks out. Leak seems to be behind firewall, but mechanics have not been able to locate the leak.
Hate the wheels on the truck now that the paint is blistering.
My Avalon 2006 A/C system was diagnosed with Freon leaks. Mechanic can not locate the leak and he feels it will be from the evaporator down the dash board. He is talking about a $1000.00 job plus one week of the car in the shop. My question is:
1) What the probabilities are that the leak is down the dash?
2) It will be a very intense labor or is anyway to make more simple job?
3) Would a dealer do a better job with the diagnose?
My wife and I noticed that our passenger side wheels, both of them, are flaking paint... We've got an early VIN '04 Touareg. We're fixing to take it in for 10K maintenance. We are not avid off-roaders, however we HAVE gone off-roading twice with it and I'm sure hoping that isn't why the paint is flaking.

This is the same config - 2006 E450 6.0 dually ambulance with 122K. Starts and runs; I drove it all the way to Houston from Minnesota when I bought it and made several shorter trips since with no problems except the AC compressor leaks freon. Then, I found oil in the degas bottle. A tech said it needs an oil cooler and he says there's some leakage at the rear main seal that's "common with this engine."
Can't recall reading a lot of rear main seal issues here. Is that right? Is oil cooler the obvious diagnosis for oil in the coolant?
Noticed a chip on one of my wheels today and would like to get some touch up paint. What is the paint code or the closest color touch up paint for the grey painted 20 inch wheels?
View 2 RepliesMy 05 Caravan is in excellent shape with only 40k miles and noticed rust and paint bubbles only on the lower front side of the rear wheel well (drivers side). I live in Pa and wash the car after snow storms. Of course the car is out of rust warranty and the dealer said they can repair it but they do not know what causes it. I have seen this exact problem on other caravans and I have been told it is were the two pieces of metal are joined together, the wheel well seam, which causes the problem. We sealed the seam last fall with silicon when it was just paint bubbles and now it has gotten worse. My thinking is either we need to go back and look at the seam again as we only sealed the section that looked open or there is a leak from somewhere else in the van - the gas cap area or the area on the frame when the door is open is suspect to me. Basically I am asking if there is anywhere else I should look for this leak besides the wheel well seam?

I have problems with slow leaks and vibrations from multiple wheels. Both problems have persisted through multiple tire changes over the years. The same shop has always done the tire changes and they tell me they've been balancing the wheels and cleaning the inner rims. The vibration went away after putting on my B2 wheels. Then swapping the rears back to the ranger wheels, 2 at a time, the vibration was back for both test drives (hence vibrations from multiple wheels).
The wheels are badly corroded at the rims and valve stems which leads me to believe it's the wheels themselves that are causing the leaks. I haven't heard of excessively old wheels causing vibrations though which is why I ask. I will likely be buying some craigslist or junkyard replacement wheels but wanted to "check in" first.
I have a 2004 GX470. Been a great car. Has 310k miles and very little in repair. My current problem is the rear air suspension leaks down. The problem is not 100% of the time but probably 80% when the car is left parked and off, over a few hours the air is released and the rear is sitting on the bumpers. My theory is it is not the air bags as if one leaked it would be doing this every time the car sits.
My hunch is it is either the component that releases the air is not sealing up every time after it releases the prescribed air when the car is parked. ( That sound it makes when you get out and it lowers the car a little each time) ... Or the sensor tells that component to let more air out and it does not tell it to stop.
I own a 2005 RX330.Ultra Premium I purchased it used 3 years ago. I have never had any problem with the icon on the dash which lights up when air pressure in tires is low.(Canadian cars have no buzzer, just the icon) The other day while watching my tires get changed from snow tires to all weather, I noticed there were no monitors in the wheels. So the icon lights up when you turn on the key but goes out when the car starts. I own two other Lexuses where the monitors fail occasionally. I would just remove the monitors in the wheels rather than trying to disconnect wiring in the dash
View 1 RepliesI had my a/c recharged in April and it was blowing hot again by July. I brought it back in today and they told me that it is leaking out of the Schrader valve on the low pressure side. They told me that they would have to replace the entire line which would cost a few hundred just in parts. Why can't they just replace the valve. The tried calling auto stores for a special part, but could not find one. How to seal or repair just the leaking Schrader valve and not the entire line?
View 8 RepliesBoth of the headlights on my 2007 Accent 3-door have blistering of the chrome plastic inside the headlight. This started a year or so ago, I asked about it at the dealership, but I never got a call. At the time my life was pretty hectic and the dealership is about a 45 minute drive from my house. I asked about it at least one other time when I was there for service, someone was going to check on it, and again I heard nothing more.

Do you reckon it'll clear.. I'm guessing it'll be okay, how about caliper clearance?
My front bumper has its paint peeling off very fast, I could get whole bumper painted but is there anything that I can do at home ...

It's coming off on all 4 wheels and its OEM original paint. I can see other areas where the paint has cracked and starting to lift as well. These Lexus wheel paint really suck... My Volvo alloys are 18 years old and still do not have peeling issues like this!!
View 7 RepliesMy wife's 2015 IS350 F-Sport (only 6,000 miles on the odometer in the year she has owned it) is showing evidence of chipped paint above the deck lid reflectors. Our dealer and Lexus corporate are not wanting to play ball and fix the problem. We are convinced that it is caused by a vibration from the reflectors when the car is moving and when the deck lid is open and shut.

View 1 RepliesThe strangest thing has happened to my 450h tailgate, there are two patches of yellow that are popping up. These were not there when I bought it back in June (it is not under warranty/purchased from a small local dealer). Last week I started to notice a faint yellow tint in those spots, but it's like it's getting worse over time.
View 3 RepliesI never seen this before. Today I was driving on the freeway. I then heard a loud "pluck" noise as if a rock hit my car. When I got home, I saw this bulge popping out on my right passenger rear door. It looks like it's swollen.
It doesn't look like a rock hit the car though. Otherwise, it would have been a dent inwards with paint chipped. It's really close to the rear passenger door speaker too. I wonder if something in the speaker popped and made a bulge like that outwards.
My RC-F has like 8k miles on the odo. I first noticed it at around 6K miles and I thought my RC-F had picked up some "small pieces of wet tissues or some white paint from road construction". But upon closer examination it is the black paint across the black bumper behind the massive grill peeling the black paint thereby revealing its original white paint.
My front end looks like a Dalmatians dog with black and white spots.
I did not hit anything. Dealer is fixing it under warranty. So will wait and see.

what are some methods to have the original chrome pieces such as the front grill and window trims painted into glossy black. I called my paint guy and he told me chrome pieces are not 'paintable' and that I shouldn't go that route.
