I'm not sure if I've just gotten used to the sound of the car or what but lately, it seems like the engine is ticking pretty loudly. It runs perfectly and I didn't think much of it until my friend commented on it. Sounds like it is coming from the drivers side (mainly).
View 14 RepliesSo I have a ticking sound that has me puzzled. I thought it could be coming from the drivers side of the engine. This weekend, actually on Monday I decided to do the hot re-torque on the diver side. I warm up the engine for about 15min and have at it. I had put this off for weeks because it has been way too hot. Dam it was still too hot, I was sweating buckets. I had to stop several times to clear the sweat off my head my eyes my shades .I torqued everything to spec and nothing moved.
I went to 125 inch lbs and I got movement on the rear two injectors. I gave them about 1/2 a turn and stopped. I put everything back together, I used hair spray form the 99 ct store. It seemed OK. Fast forward to Tue. I needed to be sure so I went for the boost leak test. Here is my concern. I was going to test to about 30 PSIG, but I ended up at about 40 psig and I forgot to disconnect the MAP sensor! How likely is it that I damaged the sensor, and how can I tell? She is pretty stock and does not have a boost fooler to protect the sensor. Nothing popped and I did not leave the the HP on very long.
MY Ls460 2010 AWD is making annoying ticking noise since I bought it 2 months ago ( 76k milage ) , it seems that the sound is mainly coming under the hood on right front fender side .
View 6 RepliesI just replaced my drivers side wheel bearing that was squealing pretty bad. After replacing it I now have the same noise only consistent where before it was only when I turned the wheel to the right. I noticed the teeth in the cv shaft where a little warn down when I changed the hub. Now also along with that noise I'm getting a clunking sound. Should I just change the cv shaft or is there something else I need to be looking at?
View 1 RepliesThis happens every single day. I'll be sitting in the car, keys in, or keys out of the ignition and all of a sudden you will hear ticking coming from the drivers side speaker. Then silence. Then randomly you hear the damned thing ticking again, sometimes 3 ticks, sometimes 4, sometimes 2, sometimes more.
It's happens sporadically. A different amount of ticks each time. It happens with car power on and off.
I'm assuming this is a build up of static? I have a subwoofer and amp installed and the power cable is running along the drivers side, could the speaker be picking up the electrical interference?
I'll be sitting at a stop light and I'll start hearing this ticking sound which seems to come from the rear of the driver door, or perhaps the B pillar. Opening and shutting the door will make it go away for a short time, but it returns by the time I get to the next light.
It's very steady, about one tick per second. At highway speeds it's either non-existent or too faint to hear. I have a 2-door.
So, I have heard a little bit about the oil pump bolt issue. However, I am still confused. Was this issue fixed for the 2008 model and what are the symptoms? I changed out my valve cover last night due to a PCV valve failure. The car is running great except there is a slight rattling sound coming from the drivers side of the engine at idle. I know I left nothing around the car that could have gotten in the motor when the valve cover was off. This issue was not happening before changing the valve cover. What could be causing this noise, or is it typical for this motor?
View 3 RepliesI just started hearing a ticking sound in my drivers side rear wheel. It sounds like a pebble in the tire at low speeds and as you get faster it makes loud road noise in the car, almost like a whoosh whoosh sound. Took it to a local auto shop and they said it was a stuck brake caliper and possible wheel bearing. After driving I felt each rotor and that one was considerable hotter then the others. Everything else about the car is fine, drives well with no vibrations and brakes well. Jacked the wheel up to see if the wheel was loose from a bad bearing, but it was not loose. The shop, however, can not locate a caliper saying it was on national backorder. Does this sound like a bad caliper and is it normally hard to find parts? I'm trying to avoid going to a dealer because of price, but that maybe may only option. The car has 90,000 miles.
View 5 RepliesI purchased a brand new 2014 SFS 2.4L Luxury just a week ago. I have noticed rattling/ticking noise coming from the driver side door. If I press againt the door with my elbow, the noise stops.
And here is the weird thing, I can hear the noise in the morning when the car is cooled overnight (parked in underground garage). But it does not happen when the car has been parked under the sun for a long period of time (in 25C/77F). So basically, I hear it on my way to work and it disappears on my way home.
I have been noticing a noise from the driver side back wheel. Like a buzzing sound. Is this normal? The reason why I am asking is I received the car like that and I do not know if something is wrong or is just normal operation. The noise can be heard while the car is parked so i do not thing it has anything to do with breaks or such.

It stays the same if I am turning the tires. Seems to go away if I put the brakes on hard, but I slow down so much I am not sure. Front CV Joint?
View 1 RepliesMy wife is talking to someone about purchasing a 1998 4.6 4x4 EB Expedition. The owner says the only issue is a tick coming from the driver's side head. He claims the shop told him it was "just a cam stator". Now, say what you will, but I've dabbled just enough with mod motors (2v and 3v, 4.6's and 5.4's) to feel like I'd rather stick to old pushrods. I've never heard of a "cam stator" on a 2v 4.6. I also realize that stator is a word that gets tossed around a bit by people who don't fully understand what it is.
Now, this is a relatively high mileage engine (something like 220k I think) so I know it could be a whole slew of things from cracked/leaking exhaust mani, lifters, timing chain, etc. But, in all my searching, "2v 4.6 cam stator" keeps leading me to people troubleshooting pushrod distributors, 3v VVT troubleshooting, and alternator related posts. Is this such a thing, what this shop may have been trying to refer to? He claims it's done it for about 5 years now, and runs perfectly fine. I'm leaning towards lifter, but the truck is 3 hours away so I haven't got to check it out yet....
I have an 2012 Accent that is sitting at 35k miles. I just got the 30,000 service done and a few days after I started to hear this ticking sound along with a squeak. The car can be idle or moving, squeak still there. It's sporadic though. Sometimes I can go 20-30 miles without hearing it and then all of a sudden I start hearing the ticking squeak. It sounds like its coming below the front passenger side of the car. It doesn't matter how fast I'm going, it's a ticking squeak that just comes and goes, but when it comes, it usually sticks around until I turn the car off and let it cool down. If i start the car right after, the squeaking comes back, but if I let the car cool down (overnight, for example), the squeak goes away until I drive 20-30 miles. I commute to work about 40 miles each way (80 miles total) every day so I can definitely hear it and it's bothersome.
View 5 RepliesRecently my GTI has been ticking, but it is only between 1 and 2 thousand rpm. After 2k it runs fine and doesn't make the sound. Local tuner suggested an oil pressure problem (not using the proper oil) but I am using the proper oil. It has been like this for over a month now and nothing has come of it. It is coming from the belt side of the motor and sounds like plastic ticking. Could it be a belt?
View 7 RepliesI did a search and wasn't sure if this problem was talked about. I noticed some threads discussing "squeaks" but the noise I'm hearing can best be described as a clunking or ticking kind of sound.
I notice that when there's stress on the seat (e.g. going over speed bumps, making turns, especially when there's an incline/decline), I hear a clunking or ticking sound. I'm not 100% sure it's the seat (thought it might be the suspension) but the more I think about it, the more I'm thinking it's the seat.
As per this thread, it looks like it may be TSB NV001-06 MAY 06 Interior - Front Seat Squeaking Noise.

How to clarify step 5A and 5B for me? Which part are you supposed to cut off? The text says to cut off the seat locator pins to 2mm but the diagram is pointing at some metal piece that is attached to the seat locator pin. Or am I reading this wrong? I've never done anything like this before so I'm a bit apprehensive and want to get as much information as possible before I attempt to do something like take out my seat!
I have a 2001 ram 1500 4x4. For the past 2 weeks, when I touch the brake pedal I can hearing a ticking noise coming from the front driverside wheel. The ticking frequency is speed dependent. I had the brakes replaced, and the shop could not find the ticking noise. The truck performs get and there are no braking problems other than the ticking sound, but now for the strange part...
My abs and brake light are now coming on. However, as soon as my abs and brake light come on, usually on the freeway around 65mph, the ticking noise from braking is gone. So with no abs and brake light, brand new brakes tick at the slightest touch of the brake pedal, with the ticking freq. equal to wheel revs.
With abs and brake light on, no ticking. Plus the shop said that I only have abs in the rear.
So there is a loud humming sound as I would describe, coming from the passenger side glove box when I turn my fan to run at high...
View 8 RepliesI noticed my sound a few weeks ago but wasn't as loud as the videos I've seen. Didn't really bother me. I did notice today that the sound was a lot louder . The only thing that has changed is i had my oil changed over the weekend with mobil 1 5w-30 fully synthetic. Now I don't know if that could factor into the sound getting louder.
I am really hoping its just a cat and i can replace my headers and everything is good. i just got the car with 19k miles on it and do not have a warranty.
I have been worrying about "engine noises" for years and at this point if its something i can't fix without dumping thousands of dollars into it, then so be it. I am just going to enjoy the car too the fullest. Plus, once i get full exhaust, it will work with canceling out the ticking sound.
as the title says, my 2010 accent is at 81,000KM and i hear a ticking sound? is it the timing belt? when driving i dont hear any ticking but once stopped or idling i hear ticking and it never stops til i accelerate.
If it is timing belt, does this mean time for replacement? or what could it be?
I seem to be leaking coolant, its not coming from the radiator, and all my hoses seem to be okay as well. I removed the airbox, the leak is on the drivers side by the engine. Where this leaking might be coming from?
View 5 RepliesSound coming from the engine and it is coming from the passengers side of the engine. The year is 2003, LS model, and four wheel drive. Well, I took it in yesterday and the mechanic said it was the "Camshaft" and this was a normal sound. Not to mention I have had this vehicle in for 6 other problems: 3 times for the four wheel drive light malfunctioning, 2 times for the service engine light coming on and then they had to replace a seal on the left front deferential because it was leaking oil.
