It seems that someone hit my drivers side mirror on my 2004 gx and cracked the shell. The mirror works fine its just the outer plastic part is cracked. My question is i see on ebay some for sale but im not sure if they are glued together or clipped in. How to take off the cover and if so is it easy or not.
View 3 RepliesI'm slowly going through my (new to me) GX470 that I bought about a month ago. I live in the big mountains and many people would say that the road I live on is a 4x4 trail, although I'm often on real 4x4 trails. On an outing today I noticed that with the air bags raised there is a loud banging sound when I go over any significant bumps. I would tick the switch to lower the air bags while going over bumps and the sound would instantly stop.
Based on that info, I presumed that I had a problem with the height sensors, causing them to max out the suspension travel. So I looked underneath and sure enough I have a cracked bracket on the driver's side sensor. So basically the cracked bracket bends as the suspension is going up until the suspension travel is maxed out.
Noticed that my drivers side back up plastic cover is cracked with a small hole in the top. Would like to RTV the damaged area to seal it but I need to remove it to make the repair. I've pulled some of the inner plastic on the door but can't get at the back up plastic cover.
View 1 RepliesI just bought an RX 330 recently and the mirror on the driver side is not working. Not even when I tried to do some minor adjustment to the mirror before I drive the car. I do not hear any motor running or any sound when I push on the mirror adjustment button (and yes, I did put the switch to the left). So does this mean the motor that controlling the mirror is out...or dead? Do I need to replace the motor or the whole mirror--the motor and frames as well? If I do need to replace this, does it considered as a "mechanical break down" since it's the motor that is failing?
View 14 RepliesWhen I have the mirror tilt feature active for both mirrors(left switch position) the driver side mirror does not return to the preset position. The passenger side works fine but I have to manually reposition the driver side so I know it is not in the mechanism, it seems it is not sensing the transmission in drive but only on the driver side. How hard is it to replace the faulty sensor or whatever the failed part?
View 4 RepliesCracked rear window from bottom center (on the driver's side just past the Dole light). Dealer says that they would have to sub out the install. That worries me a little, given antennae & other items hooked up on/near rear window.
View 4 RepliesWell I took the GX into a rough part of town in and literally left the car parked for 30 minutes, and I come back to find the drivers side mirror missing. Good news is, the thieves unplugged it, dare I say professionally and I have no ripped or spliced wires, everything is in tact. I found a mint condition mirror on ebay and bought it for a fraction of the cost the stealership would charge, however as simple as it looks, it is a bit difficult to snap the mirror onto the white plastic piece. I do not want to apply too much pressure and crack the mirror from the front. Any hacks on an easier way to put it in?
View 7 RepliesI've had this issue for quite a while. on and off for the beginning of me owning the car and now pretty much all the time. The driver side mirror will not tilt down or up. Only side to side. The passenger side works fine and even tilts down when i reverse.

View 2 RepliesMy driver's side mirror started having problems adjusting. I first noticed when the mirror tries to reset from auto tilting when in reverse. It was go to a certain point and start clicking as if something was blocking it from resetting.
If you push it with your hand it makes a terrible sound but then it can be adjusted without issue. It sounds terrible and I don't want to make things worse so I disabled the auto-tilt function.
I recently upgraded from my '14 IS 250 to a '15 GS 350. So far I am loving the car except for one thing. When driving above 50mph, there is a very loud whistling/squeaking noise coming from the driver side mirror area that is driving me crazy when the window is open. If i close the mirrors, it goes away.
I plan to have the dealer look when i go for the 5k service.
My self-closing door feature on my driver door has stopped working recently. The other three doors self-closing door feature works flawlessly.
Is there an easy solution, such as a fuse? Or, does something else, more extensive, need to be done, i.e., should I seek out a professional mechanic?
As an aside, around the same time (if not the same time), my folding side mirror for my driver door stopped working. Any possibility they are related?
2013 RX 350. Noticed the driver's side mirror vibrate or shake a lot more while driving on some bumpy roads and freeways?
Compared to the passenger side which is pretty stable and to a 2012 RX 350 which is stable too.
I just noticed this happening recently. My passenger side mirror looks like it is peeling. The part that "peeled off", no longer auto dims, while the 90% of the mirror still has dimming. But it looks ugly as heck.
View 9 RepliesThis triangular piece of trim adjacent to the side-view mirror on my 2004 Lexus RX330 has several "wrinkles" and other abnormal markings on the trim piece. This problem only appears on the passenger side. Also, there are a few of these wrinkles on the window pillars.
View 5 RepliesOn my 2005 GX, the passenger side mirror can move only left to right (horizontally) but it cannot go up or down. I did some reading and it looks like this is a 'common' problem with Lexus mirrors due to the auto tilt-down feature. Something inside must be worn out or broken and it does not move any more.
The driver side mirror moves fine in every direction, so i am pretty sure it's not a defective mirror switch. The question is.... since this is such a common problem, is there a fix for it, other than replacing the entire mirror assembly? Is there a "gear kit" or something else that i can buy, disassemble the mirror and fix it?

I notice that whenever I put the GX in reverse, the driver side view mirror doesn't come down all the way like the passenger side view mirror.
The driver side view mirror only tilt down half way and its bothering me. I try to play with it but its still behaving the same way. I read somewhere on a different thread where the dealer had to replace the motor...Hope that is not the case with me.

View 4 RepliesI have a 2014 Prius and I just noticed that the window on the driver's side is broken/cracked on the edge. I noticed this last night but my wife drives it mostly so I'm not sure how long it's been like that because my wife never noticed it.
View 3 RepliesMy uncle has a 2002 Explorer and the driver side rear spring is cracked. I have agreed to fix this as he is on a tight budget and has no mechanical skills or tools for that matter.
Anyhow, I did some reading and have two monroe quickstruts to replace the OEM stuff. I did not want to screw around with a spring compresser and everything else. Were in Michigan, and I can only imagine how rusted the bolts are on this. So I figured getting the whole unit with new hardware would be the best route.
Hopefully these are easy questions. (I do not have the truck to look at right now, and will be doing this Saturday Morning)
I have air tools, Jackstands, 2 floor jacks, a bottle jack, and everything else I need at this point including PB Blaster, rags, pry bars, sockets, etc.
1. I am assuming once I get the truck in the air, I will put the frame on jack stands, and use the floor jacks to manipulate each side of the rear suspension as needed. If I remove the three top bolts, and the bottom bolt holding the shock, can I move the control arm down enough to get the old parts out?
2. What are the torque specs if any for the top three bolts, and the bottom shock bolt? I read the top three bolts are difficult to get out due to limited clearance, so I doubt a torque wrench will fit in there.
3. Would you locktite these top three bolts at all?
4. Weakest question of the day, What are the torque specs for the lug nuts.
5. Anything I have obviously missed? I have done front struts before with a compressor so I am somewhat familiar with the process. Just not on this car before.
6. When Im in this far, anything else I should look at. I will inspect the brake pads etc. Drain and fill the rear diff fluid if needed, etc.
I have searched high and low on the net to find a pictorial write up of the process....
So I noticed a while back when I bought this car that my driver's side side-view mirror was a little loose. I didn't think anything of it back then b/c it still worked fine. Then just a couple of weeks ago the driver's side side-view mirror fell & hung by the wires connected to it. I can put it back to how's is supposed to be but it's really loose now. So I looked at the plastic pieces that hold this thing in place and I saw this:
If I put it back where it's supposed to be it stays up there but is very loose!
