Lexus GX 2004-09 :: 2006 - Rear Shocks Are Out
Feb 20, 2016
My 2006 GX470 just has 82,000 miles on it, and the rear shocks are already out. This vehicle only drives normal roads, nothing rough. It is ten years old, and sits outside. Still, I don't get it.

Since recently buying my 2008 GX470 with 100K miles I have been trying to find what is making a low rumble sound when moving. I have checked everything underneath, tightening up a few things etc. to no avail. However recent experimenting with the shock settings from comfort to sport. It seems that the rumble is less when it is on comfort. So I am thinking the shocks themselves are making some noise.

Just had my front shocks replaced (one was leaking) at a local indy shop. The GX rides so much better now!
Problem is when I picked it up this morning, the VCS, ABS, traction lights were all on. Checked the gas cap, but that's okay (actually had the cap replaced recently due to a bad cap causing the same problem).
What would cause the lights to go on after replacing the front shocks? Is it merely a coincidence I wonder or did the tech perhaps forget to connect something?

Ok, just asking a question for a buddy. He has 78k on the truck and the shocks make a strange noise. When one of us bounces the truck up and down on the bumper (simulating a load) the shocks "click". Now I looked and it looks like the bushing may be wore out, and the actual bolt that goes through the upper shock mount is touching the top and then the bottom, emitting the "clicking" noise. Is this just a normal wore out shock, or perhaps a defect? Just asking because I am not as familiar with suspension systems.

What could the cause of the rear wiper on an '06 RX330 not gripping well to the window be? Could it need a new spring, or could the entire assembly need to be changed? What troubleshooting can be done in this situation?

I have a motorcycle carrier than plugs into a trailer hitch on my PIP. It drags the rear end. Is there a way to stiffen the rear shocks? Is there any shocks that I can vary the pressure in maybe by air?

Over the last few weeks I've been hearing what sounds like a failing pump of some sort when shutting off my '06 GX470. The sound lingers for just a moment after the ignition is cut off, and sounds like a loud, very fast tatatatatatatata. It doesn't always do this - sometimes I don't hear anything. I've been commuting in the GX for four years and I've only been hearing this intermittent occurrence over the last 3-5 weeks.
What this might be? Fuel pump? Air leveling suspension pump?

I have just installed the V2's on my R - amazing! however the rears are a bit soft for my taste. I am wondering can the damping be adjusted without removing the rear shocks? Can I access the damping adjusted from the trunk?

Installed four Gruven rear adjustable control arms and during a visual inspection noticed thin oil film starting to run down both rear shocks. Doesn't surprise me as one of the previous owners installed them minus the rear perches. Anyway, suggestions on replacing just the rears? Cannot find KW replacements, if they even exist. They should but dealing with KW in the past it would not surprise me if they said I have to purchase an entire new set up. Koni Sports? No likey Bilstein.

The rubber bushing (is it a bushing) at the top of the right rear shock on my 2002 Santa Fe is wearing away. Can I replace just that? Or do I have to do the whole shock? The shock itself seems fine.

I think my rear window shocks are shot. Last week when the temps hit -15 they completely failed. Are these a rebuild-able shock or do I need to purchase new ones?
Why do I have a bad feeling that this will be an overpriced item????

What is the degree of difficulty in replacing the rear shocks on a 2WD 2002 F150?

Her 2008 Accent is leaking a thick oil from the top of the shocks. I noticed it when switching the summer wheels back on. The mileage is low at only 36000 Km/ 22500 Miles. Not a lot of use on them. I guess 8 years and the seals just can't seal no more. This car was well cared for since new.
The ride feels fine but I'll be looking for a sale on rear shocks.

So I've installed two set of KYB rear shocks in my Elentra 2008 and the shocks failed after a few days and there is bad noise coming from failed shocks.
My questions: Is KYB the right brand for my car?

So I noticed the other day whenever I go over bumps there is a rusty noise from the driver side rear spring/shocks. I don't hear this noise during normal driving just when going over bumps. What it is? I drive it everyday and the car has 53k miles.

I Just bought a 1997 Ford Explorer V6 4WD and I noticed after the I bought the truck that the whole rear suspension (Shocks) were completely destroyed. I failed to notice this during inspection of the car because it was parked very close to a wall so i was unable to see the area. Now I do know a bit a about cars but I no professional, It seems as if this whole section of the car just rotted out which is surprising because the rest of the car seemed OK. So now my question what do I need to buy in order to fix this I am not sure it seems like there is some sort of cross member that bolts onto the frame that connects the two rear shocks. What it looks like?

Secondly, I changed the oil in my car (ES350) and noticed the shocks had gone out in the hood. Darn thing just wouldn't stay up. Went to Lexus and it will be replaced. So I am trying to purchase the hood shocks at Sewellparts.com to change the bad hood shocks. I read somewhere on the web that if I register I could use a code or something to get a discount. I have registered but still don't have a discount code.

I went into a shop today and got my corolla checked out and they said that its shock absorbers and struts should be replaced because the oils were leaking and they told me the total estimate of my cost (parts+labors) are about 1300 dollars.
Like, do I need to buy all shock absorbers, struts and strut springs for each of the wheel? (front 2 + rear 2 = total of 4 of each) ??

Question: after replacing rear shocks on 2009 Altima, does in need a rear wheel alignment? After shocks were replaced on my Altima (without wheel alignment), I drove about 4500 miles. After that the tires were rotated and the back tires installed in front. I immediately noticed loud road noise, mechanic says it is uneven tread wear and I think - this is too much of a coincidence. So should they have done the alignment when they replaced the rear shock absorbers or not?
