06 GX470 muffler exhaling white smoke for a while, now the smoke disappeared, however, a new hissing engine noise is evident. The noise increases with the revolutions of the engine and it never stops.

There is an unusually loud noise from the engine that I'm almost sure is cooling fan noise. It occurs after running in the heat of the day. It's not mechanical noise, but a loud roar like that of a large truck engine. Is this typical for these models in the heat?

View 3 RepliesI have a 2006 GX 470 with 130,000 miles on it. Recently, when driving on long trips I have noticed that the SRS bag light will come on after we stop after driving for a while. To be a little clearer, the car will start normally when cold, all dash lights will go through their sequencing and turn off. We will drive for a distance which will be long enough to heat everything up, say to the mall or a restaurant.
When we return to the car and I start it all lights go thru their sequencing and the SRS light stays on. Next morning, after the car has cooled, everything is normal again. Lexus says it is the 89170-60241 sensor assembly that is $489.26 plus $310.95 in labor to replace. While I have owned the car I have successfully replaced the air suspension rear sensors and all the O2 sensors and recently did an engine swap with my son on his Toyota Supra so I think I can handle the repair. Where is the sensor located and how is it accessed??
My left rear suspension will leak down to bump stops unless I turn off auto suspension leveler. I can set suspension at high level turn off and it will stay that way i had set that way for 2 weeks and no leak but if I turn on leveler it may stay or it may leak down usually just left side somebody had said that my air bags were leaking so I tested it out all last month and find it hard to believe the bags are leaking if it will stay inflated a week or 2.
View 1 RepliesHow to diagnose the engine issue I am having. The gx currently has 96k miles and I am planning on doing a timing belt and water pump replacement as I plan on keeping it as long as possible.
One new issue that crept up is that when going down the hill the car engine sounds like it's actually accelerating and the RPM drops to as if it was idling.
Normally when going down the hill it usually stays around 1 or 2 on the rpm, it's noticeably different and just started happening recently. What might be the cause of this?
Have water on passenger side floorboard after a heavy rain or car wash. Seems to come from more the dash glovebox area than rocker panel. I'm aware of cleaning sunroof drains, don't think that's it.
I've removed the kick panel, can see drain, it's not too short like other post show. I realize it could be the windshield, but what about the cowl drains?
Now to the clicking noise. I hear it when AC is on recirculate, if I switch to fresh air, it stops. The temp outside or in, seems irrelevant.
Over the last few weeks I've been hearing what sounds like a failing pump of some sort when shutting off my '06 GX470. The sound lingers for just a moment after the ignition is cut off, and sounds like a loud, very fast tatatatatatatata. It doesn't always do this - sometimes I don't hear anything. I've been commuting in the GX for four years and I've only been hearing this intermittent occurrence over the last 3-5 weeks.
What this might be? Fuel pump? Air leveling suspension pump?
Few weeks ago I bought my first Lexus, an '07 GX 470. It has roughly 75,000 miles on it, 2 previous owners before me. Anyway, I hear a noise sometimes which either sounds like a slight belt slip or fuel being pumped into the injectors when I give it a good amount of gas and the engine downshifts to accelerate. I had the dealer replace the drive belt(serpentine belt) because of 2 reasons, it needed to be replaced and I thought that could be the problem(I did not have to pay for it since I have had some problems with the Lexus dealership I bought it from, they did it as a "goodwill" gesture, that's a story for another thread) and inspect the tensioner and pulleys, they said the pulleys and tensioner were in good working order.
I drove the GX home tonight after said replacement, and I still noticed the same noise. The best I can describe it is like I said above, a slight belt slipping noise or it could also be described I guess as fuel being injected under acceleration as soon as the trans downshifts to accelerate. I am just curious if this is normal for this engine or do I have a possible problem? It's covered under the Lexus used car warranty for another 5 months so if there is something wrong, obviously I would like it fixed under warranty if something is wrong. One thing I should probably mention is, the noise is semi quiet and I guess the average person might not even notice it.
So... I had the hood open and when i pressed the gas it makes a short hissing noise of some sort... I'll try and get a video tomorrow... it only lasts for about 1-2 seconds not sure if its just induction noise...
View 11 RepliesSo the other day I was listening to the radio, and all of sudden no more audio.. After some troubleshooting, and some reading. I am thinking it's the levinson amp. I have a few questions:
First where is the best place to buy a replacement.
I assume it's the piece under the passenger seat and it's as simple as undoing the bolts and swapping out the cables..
I did run the diagnostic with the holding info, and flicker the lights and everything came up as "ok". I just need to get audio going in this thing again for as cheap as possible!
2004 LX470 in galactic grey, grey leather, NAV and ML
2006 GX470 in black/grey with the sport package, Nav.
Each is in perfect condition, flawless in maintenance, and he has given me the option of choosing one to keep, and he will keep the other.
Input? I really don't know which to choose!
The whole right side speakers do not work on my 2006 gx470, its not the control screen it the speakers. I hear it could be the amp? Any info out there?
View 4 RepliesCan the instument cluster on my GX 470 be relaced with a used unit? Will the miles be retained from the computer or will I have to some how have them matched to the old odometer? I do not want to have a mileage unknown unit nor do I want to have to buy a new cluster from the dealer.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2006 screw with the 5.4 and I get a hissing type noise from the A/C. It cycles every 7 seconds and sounds like it's coming from the far passenger vent area. It sounds like it's recharging itself or something. I've taken it into the dealer and the first time they said it was the vacuum driven system then the second time they said it was the freon recharging itself. Is every 7 seconds a little to often? It seems to get louder the longer I drive. Needless to say after a four hour trip to the beach hearing this hissing every 7 seconds drives me crazy. It will hiss then stop for seven seconds then hiss again.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2006 Lexus GX 470, that i drove through a street with about 2.5ft of water the other day (there was no other option due to an crazy high tide coming up in downtown Charleston, SC).
This happened about a month ago. Afterwards I made it 500 yards and the car just powered off. While I was calling the tow truck (within 20 minutes), I was able to get it to crank back up. I drove it the next three weeks through Christmas without any issues. On Christmas I parked it and we drove our other car out of town. When I got back, it cranked for maybe 15 seconds, then died, and hasn't cranked since.
When I say it won't crank, all of the interior power and lights come on, but when you turn the key nothing happens. No clicking or anything such as a bad starter would cause.
I have taken it to the repair shop and they can't find the issue, and they tell me their scanner won't talk to my ignition, fuel injection, and I think emissions computer. They can talk to the ABS computer.

View 2 Replies2006 GX470, ~65k mi. When shifting from P to R, P to D, or R to D, the transmission often (but not always) seems to have to think about it a while. When it shifts fine it takes about 1sec for the transmission to change gears. When it's being cranky it takes ~4secs. There are no other symptoms.
