I've had the stiff ride issue with my 2005 gx470. Took it to three lexus dealers and finally the vehicle is fixed. Hats off to Lexus of Maplewood, St Paul, MN. Their shop foreman persisted and found after several days troubleshooting; a speed sensor was the culprit. My ride is much smoother over speed bumps without the need to cycle through the height adjustment.

View 3 RepliesMy left rear suspension will leak down to bump stops unless I turn off auto suspension leveler. I can set suspension at high level turn off and it will stay that way i had set that way for 2 weeks and no leak but if I turn on leveler it may stay or it may leak down usually just left side somebody had said that my air bags were leaking so I tested it out all last month and find it hard to believe the bags are leaking if it will stay inflated a week or 2.
View 1 RepliesI have a 05 gx470 and I was having trouble with the rear staying bottomed out and not pumping up. I replaced both ride height sensors. Nothing changed until about 1 hour of driving the compressor kicked on. it road better but still bottomed out some. So I raised the sensors about 5mm. it road great for about 10 miles then went back to riding on the axles. No compressor activity. Also when the compressor is not engaging the push buttons do nothing with changing the dash from H-N-L no matter when you push it. If you hear the compressor running all the buttons will work just fine. I have a useless car because it is not safe to drive when its riding on the axle bump stops.

View 14 RepliesSo I found an 03 gx one owner and only 56k Miles on it. Nice truck. I noticed right away that the rear suspension feels hard and bouncy. When I adjust the height it does work but seems to take a bit. In the Low setting feels like it is on the bump stops. Not sure where to start, sounds like the level sensors can be an issue, so I will have a look at them. Feels like it is just going to the top height to me thus making the ride really stiff. I climbed onto the rear bumper and tried to bounce the truck and it is like a rock. Like the bags are over inflated.

It's so bad I've been searching for aftermarket struts and shocks to replace what must be garbage OEM parts - but nothing seems to be available for it yet.
So the Ex came to me with a 6" spring lift in front and 5-1/2" blocks on the rear. It's always been a little stiff and bouncy. More than it should, in my opinion. There are also some occasional low-speed groans coming from under my feet.
On a recent inspection, I noticed the spring eye bushings are a little worn (front springs, the rear bushing of the spring). In taking the rear or the front leaf away from the shackle, I noticed that the shackle would not swing at all. This could be a problem. If the shackle can't swing fore and aft, then the suspension can't articulate, making the ride super stiff and bouncy. This could also wear out the spring eye bushing.
The design of this shackle looks very simple. Maybe too simple. A bolt goes through the top, and through holes in the frame. If this bolt is tight, then the top of the shackle is clamped to the frame and can't pivot. Is this right? Is it safe to loosen this bolt? Should it be lubricated?

I have a 2006 GX470. It has some sort of automatic rear suspension height adjustment. When it is malfunctioning the rear of the car is jacked up like I have pimped it out. I use the height adjustment button but when I resume driving the car moves back into the neutral position which is not neutral at all it is jacked to the top. I had the sensors replaced once for $1,000 but within a year it was doing the same thing.
Now the light flashes to lower the back end but the back end doesn't move. I am stuck in the jacked up mode.
I have a 2003 GX 470, the air suspension often deflates to axles and stays there. Ride is unbearable, I removed the rear height sensors and used an ohmeter to test them and they seem to be working fine (ohms change as I move the pivot arm, goes from 423 ohms to 3.3 K full stroke on both sensors) It will deflate to axles and there are no flashing lights and the manual height switch doesn't do anything when I push it, it just stays in N. Every few days the suspension will start working and air up and ride fine. What else could it be besides sensors or is it the sensors even though they seem to be working fine. Could it be an adjustment on sensors. Where is the height control exhaust valve located? Once it airs up to normal can I just disconnect the exhaust valve so it cant deflate?
View 13 RepliesI have a leak on my Lexus, the car raises up normal my suspension work good but I hear the air leaking and the ride feels like crap.
Is there anywhere where I can get a diagram for the air ride system to see where all the air hoses go through.
I went under the car and I have a rough area where it is but if I could get a diagram it would be easier for me to see the hose I'm talking about and if possible would need part numbers along with the list.
Can't say I noticed it on the test drive but when we went to Costco last weekend and drove slowly over the speed bumps it seemed like the rear suspension had no give in it at all. Also noticed it whilst out driving tonight.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2005 GX 470, I noticed a sound, like that of a belt being loose, the sound came from the front of the truck. A few minutes later the AC stopped cooling, it was blowing really hot air and then the temperature of the engine went really high. I stopped on the side of the road, when we opened the hood, the belt was not broken but there was antifreeze everywhere.

This is something else. I have been to other states such as TX AZ NM & NV and this problem does not exist.
View 9 RepliesI have a 2005 GX470 with about 50K miles. Over the last few weeks it started exhibiting a weird problem. When accelerating above 20-25 MPH it starts shaking. Not the steering wheel. The entire car is shaking as if driving over rocks. It is pretty annoying, and I am now concerned as it seems to have gotten somewhat worse than before.
Tires are rebalanced and rotated, so i dont thing it is that. My wife is freaking out, as she is driving it with 2 small kids.
2005 GX470... Long time Toyota owner, first time Lexus with tpms. Light is flashing meaning a bad sensor from what I've read. Lexus wants $ to check and repair one wheel. Discount tire had a hand held checker and it found two bad sensors.

IS THIS NORMAL for this vehicle or is there an issue? what is YOUR experience? My MDX will freeze you out after about 20 seconds of operation ...
What the front wheel well liner shields that are held in by plastic clips are called there are made out of rubber cardboard fiberish material they keep water and debrie from getting in through the wheel wells. Need to know the part number.
View 6 RepliesMy wife started up my 2005 GX470 this morning to go to work and drove maybe a half mile before she noticed a problem. So she turned around and drove it back home in limp mode. She put it in park and got out.
Most of the Warning Lights are on ( VSC OFF, VSC TRAC, Anti Skid, Check Engine etc). I tried moving the shift lever but there was some resistance and some grinding noises. And it now seems to be stuck in neutral.
How to diagnose this myself? We only drive this vehicle in the winter, and it was fine the last time we used it.
I just purchased a used a Lexus GX470. The transmission seems to do something fairly consistently that seemed unusual to us, but we are new to this car so I'm not sure if it is normal, abnormal, or a sign of something big to come.
When starting from a complete stop, upon removing your foot from the brake, there is a noticeable mini-surge in the engine as the transmission engages, and the sensation seems to repeat when the transmission is disengaging as you brake to stop.
Does this sound normal? From searching on google, I have read that there are issues with "hard shifting" but this does not seem to happen with shifting...just when the transmission engages or disengages, and it isn't a big 'bump' as much as a mini-surge. I have also read where it could be related to something electrical such as the air conditioner.
The car is under warranty, but the service department notes no error codes when they scanned the engine.
