2103 GS 350 F-SPORT ... I've only had my car for a month but I just noticed there is a small space between my rear wheels and the rotor hat. My front is not like this. I don't have an opportunity to take the wheels off and look.
View 14 RepliesJust wondering... should there be any plastic pieces inside the wheel wells directly in front of the rear wheels? There is empty space on mine where it looks like leaves and whatnot could collect. I can get a picture if needed. I expected there to be a plastic cover of some sort. Then again, maybe it is on purpose so if stuff collects in there you will see it and clean it out.
View 8 RepliesI just replaced my front rotors and brake pads this afternoon. I took it for a test run around the block and had allot of smoke come off the rotor on drivers side. I concluded that it had seized, and replaced it with a new rotor. I then test drove it a good two miles to fill the girl up with gas, when I got home I saw that my passenger side rotor had a faint amount of smoke. Granted I did a sloppy job and there was brake fluid everywhere. With all that being said, when I drove her to get gas it did not pull to the right, jerk or pulse. I was able to stop on a dime, I guess I want to know if this small amount of smoke is just the new pads adjusting to the new rotor?
View 3 RepliesI have a 2013 ES 350. Last night about 5 hours after the engine had been turned off, we noticed a strange noise coming from under the rear of the car? It sounded like a small electric motor was running. I started the car and turned it off. The noise had quit. This is actually the second time this happened.
I got under the car to try and determine the exact location of the noise, It sounded to be coming from the gas tank area. Could it be a fuel pump kicking on?
I think the door when closed leaves too much space for dirt and mud to accumulate. Especially combined with the fact that the car has no mud guards. Usually wont complain about something like this but this happens just a day or 2 after detailing the car.
View 14 RepliesI had my 2010 Camry up on a hoist yesterday and noticed that there is sort of a small deflector type plastic piece with about a 1 inch lip on the underbody just before the rear wheels. It is held on by two bolts. You can just barely see it and might have to bend down to get a good look at it. It is on both sides. I'm not talking about the rear mud/splash guards but the small piece before the rear tires.
What this is called and what it's purpose is?

I'm in the process of changing pads and rotors on all 4 wheels. I've done all brakes and rotors, except that I'm stuck on the driver rear. The driver rear rotor won't come off!
Here's what I've done so far: I've used the metric jack bolts (I didn't buy the long ones) and that freed up some rust, with pb blaster. Now, the rotor comes out a bit, and I'm able to move it around, and the rotor comes forward a little bit towards me. It's so wobblily that it seems like it is about to come out. The rotor isn't solid stuck on, like most threads I've read.
While hammering, I think a piece of hardware of the parking brake fell down on the ground. Do u think that the parking brake is not allowing the rotor to come off? If so, I was reading online that there is some way to release the parking brake via a hole though the rotor, but I'm really not familiar with this. I'm not even sure if it's the parking brake that's not allowing the rotor to come off.
I have a lot of fun and satisfaction working on my GX and noticed that the rear brake pads soon will need to be replaced. I know how to take off the front rotors by putting some DW-40 and using a rubber mallet to get them off. However because of the parking brake, I don't know how to get the rotor out so I can resurface it, which at this point don't look that bad anyway. How to get the rear rotors off? I have to do my wife's ES350 too so I figure I'll do mine first then hers.
View 14 RepliesI have an 01 Hyundai Elantra that has had power steering problems for awhile.
Awhile back, when we would fire it up, we'd get a loud screech. Eventually, my father in law replaced the power steering pump and belt.
Now there is a new issue. Ever since he has replaced that, on start up, there's a small screech and when turning out of a parking space, the steering wheel is tough as if the power steering isn't working.
I was thinking it's the power steering pump pulley, but can't seem to find any real stores that just sell the pulley itself. I did see the pulley have a minor wobble in it when examining it. Thinking maybe its the bearings on the pulley.
My front disc brakes are creating a small amount of drag on the rotor. With the car jacked up and wheel off I am able to easily turn the rotor by hand, but there is a small amount of drag. I haven't had any problems with my brakes, they have never frozen or overheated, etc. I put new brake pads and rotors on the front about 6 months ago only because it was time for replacement. The question is: how much disc brake drag is acceptable? Looking around on the internet for answers there doesn't seem to be a consensus: some people say absolutely no brake drag, some say that a small amount is normal. What do you think?

View 14 RepliesI am the owner of a 2013 Lexus ES 350. The car received a dent in a parking lot several months ago and I finally was able to visit a shop that does paintless dent removal. The dent is above the rear wheel area (drivers side) on the crease of the fender. The technician mentioned that the manufacturers are using thinner metals to address vehicle weight to get better fuel mileage. He mentioned that they get a lot of vehicles damaged by either a heavy rainfall or hail storm. In addition, he pointed out that there were several small dents on the hood due to pressure put on the hood when closing it. I was not aware of the dents on the hood until it was pointed out to me. I have the 3M protective coating on the vehicle.
View 9 RepliesI heard that 13,14 had this issue my 15 GS is having this issue as well. Clicking noise is coming from front wheels It's like few clicks in a row when turning the wheel left / right.
Is there a DYI fix. Don't want to take to dealer they might duplicate the problem. It's not such an issue but when window is down I hear it kind of makes me wonder why a $60k car is making those noises.
The last issue I have to tackle with the GS450h is a knocking sound coming from what seems the front wheels and mostly the right wheel. This is when driving over a ditch or uneven road like a cobblestone road.
This issue was present before the RSR down sus springs were installed (i.e. in factory setup) but has since gotten more obvious, probably due to the more rigid suspension. Initially I thought it may have been the brake pads, however when braking harder (beyond regenerative braking system) it remains present. So I think the brakes can be ruled out.
The suspension and wheel setup have been checked by the Lexus dealer three times now and by a suspension specialist. None of them could find a thing wrong with it. What it may be?
My brother just bought a 2014 Avalon and he is selling it to me for next to nothing. I am planning to use them for my 2014 Lexus GS 350 RWD Luxury package as a winter tire setup. Will these wheels fit?
View 14 RepliesIt's been harsh winter in NYC. Yesterday evening I parked my ES300H with right side wheels submerged in the icy puddle, meaning the water reached almost to the bottom of the brake rotors. Today I noticed that the rear back wheel looks flat. I check the wheel pressure in the dashboard, and I get 33psi on all wheels but 13psi on that flat one. I have no clue why the pressure drop didn't happen to the front right wheel. I pumped that flat tire and drove over 20 miles that day, no tire pressure drop.
So, the moral: Don't park/submerge your wheels in ice cold puddles.
My new 2008 2.0T Passat wagon, Lux version has a 20" L x 5" W x 1.5" D space on the inside of the rear hatch behind the license plate with two knobs that you turn to open it. The covering door is hinged and it looks like it might be a space to put something because there are four plastic clips that might be there to retain something. Cannot find any reference to it in the owners manual.
