I've noticed that I don't get a consistent engine roar from my sound generator when I throttle hardly. I get more of a roar when the engine is cold and I floor it. Any other time I accelerate hard it doesn't sound like my sound generator is working.
View 5 RepliesI have an '09 LS 460 AWD and there is a very unlike Lexus knocking sound at idle to maybe up to 20mph. best way I can describe is to imagine a diesel engine at idle, and dilute it substantially. subtle but clearly there. i read here in CL that could be due to valves or such, but dealer insists it is because of the intentionally designed "oversized fuel pump and fuel injector" and completely normal.
View 7 RepliesOk, still working out some issues: It may be normal, but I hear (not feel) a slight roar when I'm pressing throttle petal very lightly. Seems to do it as we'll when I'm backing off throttle but it stops when I let off pedal completely. Not there when I get into the pedal. Not the tires because it stops all together when I get off throttle and let it roll. Turbo maybe ? Rear end (wouldn't it do it even when rolling)? No vibrations at all....just a little roar.
View 9 RepliesMaybe I am paranoid, but recently I pushed power close button on the lift gate and a family member then also pushed the lift gate shut. Is it possible that the lift gate is broken now? It seems to work fine, but if I listen carefully I can hear some what seems to be grinding noises at the very top. Do the other RX power tailgates make a consistent sound throughout the open and close process.
View 6 RepliesSo I started getting this metallic/harmonic whining sound from my GTI's engine a few weeks ago. It was barely noticeable then, but has now gotten louder and more consistent. The sound occurs once the engine has warmed up and can be reproduced by holding the revs constant anywhere above 2k. The sound does not change in pitch with engine speed. It doesn't matter if the car is parked or moving.
I've attached a video... The sound can heard starting at 00:23 and becomes constant after a few seconds. Its hard to hear at first, but if you listen carefully its definitely there.
I have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow and will update with their findings. In the meantime, any clue as to what this could be? I can't really pinpoint where its coming from, seems loudest near where the oil filter is? By the way I'm 100% stock.
2000 Crown Victoria, 207K miles, 111K on current engine
My car has been an absolute champ since I took ownership of her at 133K miles, and to this day runs trouble-free. However, it's just started making a noise that's got my scratching my head. I can only describe it as a "puff" sound. It's consistent with engine speed (higher RPM = faster puffs), and seems to get louder the more open the throttle is. If you let off the gas and coast, the noise goes away.
What's kinda confusing me is that the noise does not occur at all while the car is not in gear. If you park and rev the engine, the noise doesn't happen at all. All fluid levels and conditions are good, and there's been no loss of power or other issues from the engine or transmission.
My only guess is perhaps I have a teeny-tiny pinhole leak in my exhaust somewhere. The sound seems to be coming from somewhere very close to the engine, but since it doesn't happen when parked I can't pop the hood and look around for where exactly the sound might be coming from.

When driving enthusiastically, harder, and sportingly, the car runs beautifully!
When driving normally, such as highway cruise or lower speeds with a consistent throttle input, the power will cut-out. Then the max boost pressure will be approximately 3 psi until the key is cycled. Then normal chipped operation resumes. Since it is difficult to drive hard all the time, this circumstance comes up often.
There is a new N75 recently installed. The situation does NOT set off the check engine light.
I have noticed according to the boost gauge readings, it tends to happen between 10 inHg to 0 psi. Above or below that, don't recall it happening.
I own a 2013 ES 350 with 5000 miles.
On cold weather conditions, doing a cold start, I allow the engine to run and warm up for a minimum of 5 minutes before driving. In this time frame the engine goes thru the whining sound and then the engine noise is quiet (normal).
What do other owners allow for engine warm up time before driving.
I started getting this weird sound after 10K miles service. I noticed it when i parked my car in the garage and the engine was off. I get this sound with or without turning the AC.

I went to clean my wife's throttle body out with brake cleaner and I think I sprayed too much into the throttle body now the car won't start. It makes a small clicking/grinding noise when I try to start it. What have I done?

Over the past couple of months it has developed a loud roar on the left side that gets louder as I pick up speed. The kicker is that it doesn't do it what so ever when turning right? Where to start???

Wife said she heard a 'pop' on the way home from work last night and thought she blew a tire or ran over something. Nothing in the road and tires fine so she continues home. Temperatures were near zero last night.
Upon start up today, the speakers were at full volume roar with the audio off.
Turning the audio on, only changed the pitch, not the level.
I tried cycle the audio on / off but no change. Restarted car, same thing.
Let the car sit a while and restarted it to check the system codes. Same noise for a few seconds, then a sort of 'pop' and the noise stops. Radio/ CD work fine now.
I checked the system and all shows OK. It is not drivable with the roar (if it comes back).
I have 2010 GS350 AWD. Tires are Dunlop and have 7000 miles on them and the car has 47k miles. The issue is the rear inner tire are cupping and make roar noise. Car is all stock. I have done alignment twice at the dealer. They are telling me everything is normal. I have personally inspected everything under the car and did not find anything abnormal, no blowing bushing, and no oil coming from struts. I have read there is no camber adjustment in the rear.
What could cause the gs350 AWD this cupping? Only in the rear? Would camber correct such problem?
New to the prius world! I recently purchased a 06 prius with 185k. Gas engine needed to be replaced so I recently replaced it. Had code of engine failed to start. Now got replacement engine in and has p0300 and p0303 and p0304. Weird thing is new plugs. Swapped coils and injectors with same results. To me it sounds like a racket in the transmission. The noise is not consistent at all. Very loud and odd. Also inside the car when I put it in drive or neutral a warning light comes up and says shift to park batteries wont charge while in neutral.
View 17 RepliesI just picked up my car after having a shop install ball joints, tie rod ends, and end links and there is a thumping sound coming from I'm guessing the right front tire that is consistent with speed. I had an alignment done today as well. Is it possible that my newish tires are already worn unevenly and the alignment is showing that now?
Either that or the wheel is not seated completely. I'll call the guy back tomorrow when they open and let him know what I hear.
Only reason I didn't so it myself is because its cold out now and he did everything including alignment.
Ok, driving home tonight from boarding (semi hard driving) car started running and shifting weird, loss of power, weird shifts in drive. At first red light I could hear a sucking sound when the throttle was pressed,or downshift tranny in manual mode. If you put the car in neutral going down the road and stab the pedal about the third time throttle will maintain 3g rpm. Babied it home, popped the hood blipped the throttle and there's def. a huge sucking sound coming from engine bay. I lightly sprayed intake/vacuum hoses/airbox etc with starting fluid and no change in idle. cant see anything loose. WTH?
View 24 RepliesIt's a 96 850 Naturally Aspirated. There is a whistle sound (usually about one second in duration) when I let off the throttle.
Based on what I've been able to find out so far it is most likely at Vacuum line or a gasket somewhere in the intake line. The more common source of this is the Throttle body gasket but that doesn't seem to be the case.
I think the sound is originating on the left portion of the engine, somewhere between the oil cap and the timing cover.
Any good ways to test the vacuum lines or gaskets?
I've noticed that under mid-throttle condition, there is a jarring lag when the car shifts from 3rd to 4th gear Always exactly from 3rd to 4th gear.. no other gears. The car will literally lurch as if the gas is cut momentarily. If the pedal is mashed to the firewall (which.. it frequently is).. then it shifts fine.
View 14 RepliesI just took delivery about 2 weeks ago of a 2011 LS 460L AWD with less than 30k miles. I have a very annoying issue that happens every time I let off the accelerator. There is a consistent vibration that seems to be coming from the drive train. It's really annoying to me. This occurs when driving about 50 mph or greater, nothing when driving at slower speeds. There is a 30 day exchange policy where I bought the car from, hope I don't need to use it.
View 14 RepliesAfter tune-up to my 2000 RX300 (105k miles), car came back with clicking noise under dash... took back to repair shop they agreed sounds like morse code, or like rain falling. They examined under hood and said they don't know source, but that the work they did couldn't be causing it. They said could be drive belt and/or pulleys, or clutch on AC, or alternator bearings... that it doesn't look like any major issue. I brought the car in for a tune up and it came out with this annoying noise. Do I keep pushing them to figure it out what the did and correct it? Or do I trust them that additional work/expense needs to be made? What could the noise it be? It appears spread across the whole dash, but under the hood just sounds like a consistent clicking noise near the belts.
View 9 Replies2013 ES350 silver for my wife - bought 3 months ago and drove 600 miles.
About one month ago, I could hear a humming sound at the back of the car (somewhere around backseat or in the trunk). At that time, car was parked in the garage. This sound is similar to having several honey bee in that area and humming at the same time. The sound disappeared by itself after several hours.
Yesterday, it happened again. We parked the car in the garage around 4pm and did not hear this sound at that time. At around 10pm, when I went to garage to get some tools, I heard this humming sound again. This morning, as soon as I woke up, I checked the car and the sound is gone.
I am not sure if there are any other reports of similar issue for 2013 ES350, or maybe this issue is just for my particular car? And this humming sound is not always there, so I am not sure how to repeat it in the repair department. Maybe I need to bring it to delaership and just let service technician take a look.
