Yesterday the brake warning light came on in my 13 350. I checked, and the fluid level in the master cylinder was at the "min" line. I don't think I've ever had to had brake fluid in any car before. Seems to be Ok today, but I was wondering if other folks have had this happen? Of course if it happens again I'll have to check the brake system. Just wanted to check.
View 8 RepliesSo my May 2007 V6 Sonata with 143,000 km (89k miles) had the red parking brake light come on. Master cylinder level was low and there was evidence of something leaking on the driveway. Below the very back of the driver seat.
At the dealership they say I've got a leak in my brake lines. Say that the fuel lines should be replaced too since they are in the same compartment. So if one goes the other may not be far behind.
I was out of town and the car couldn't be driven safely so I was pretty much stuck there.When the dealership did the work a rusted bolt snapped near the fuel tank and they said that added an additional hour of labour to the work. In the end I wasn't charged for it. Tech said he had never seen a Sonata have the brake lines rust out like that. I got the brake and fuel lines done cause I plan on owning it for 6+ years.
So my 2007 Accent/Hatchback started having this weird issue the other day.
My Parking Brake/Low Brake fluid Level Warning Light will coming on while driving and then all the gauges drop down. The light goes off and the gauges come right back up. All this happens within 2-4 seconds maybe. And usual happens maybe once every 6-7 times I drive it so not all the time.
I am driving, not braking so even more confused.
I filled my coolant yesterday after driving to the "max" line. Today when I awoke it was right at the "min" line. I didn't see any noticeable liquid below the truck, except under each front fender but I think this was water from the dew evaporating/condensing and running off the truck. What happened to the coolant or did it just cool down and condense. It got pretty cool last night (mid 40s). I have an 02 f250 5.4L ... I feel like there is a leak somewhere, any link to or a procedure they can explain for finding it?
View 10 RepliesEarly 70's Ford truck. The brake MC fluid is filled but not overfilled, and doesn't leak at all when the truck is parked. It can sit there for a month and never leak a drop, parked. But when I drive the truck, even just around the block, then park, and look inside the engine compartment immediately the brake MC is dripping brake fluid. It appears the leaking mode is by the fluid somehow jumping up and coming over the top edge of the MC when the truck is in motion or when the brakes are applied. All my diy'er years of replacing brake master cylinders on Ford Galaxies, VW Rabbits, Corollas, and this truck, I've never seen this kind of weird brake problem before. On this MC design it seems there's sort of a rubber baffle inside the lid of the MC, and that's present and accounted for.
View 17 RepliesMy 2003 Toyota 4 Runner with 104K miles recently started showing a brake light off and on. The brake fluid reservoir was at the minimum level and there was some residue leaking from the bottom near a silver disc. Took it to a mechanic and was told it was most likely the master cylinder leaking brake fluid. Is this normal wear and tear or is it unusual in this vintage vehicle? I do not notice any brake slippage at this point. Should I take this to the dealer and ask why this master cylinder is faulty? I thought Toyotas were long life vehicles?

View 14 RepliesI'm getting ready to work on a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire for a co-worker. They told me that brake fluid leaks out where the fluid reservoir attaches to the master cylinder. Could that be a bad master cylinder or something with the brake booster? It looks like there is a lot of sludge in the reservoir.
View 8 Repliesput new master cylinder and bled brakes in 1978 jeep cj5 and now fluid is being forced out the rear brake reservoir in the master cylinder, if lid is off there is about a 1inch fountain of fluid that shoots up.
View 7 RepliesI recently noticed that my brake fluid was leaking in my 2003 Hyundai Elantra and upon further inspection I found the leak was coming from a part near the master cylinder. I looked online and couldn't figure out if this part was part of the master cylinder or brake line or a part all on its own. I tried tightening it but It still leaks some. I read a similar post online and that it could just be that the washer needs replaced but I just wanted to check on here to see what the part is called and if I should just replace the whole thing. I included photos as well.

View 6 RepliesI have power steering fluid leaking out of the bottom of the Brake master cylinder out of a round hole. Every time I pushed brakes it leaks a good amount of power steering fluid out. Why it would do this and is there a screw missing out of the hole or what?
View 6 RepliesJust wanted to report another F150 with the blown master cylinder problem and had a few questions regarding the issue. Its a 2014 Screw EcoBoost with about 12500 miles located in Michigan.
I was driving last Friday (6/19) when the low brake fluid dash lamp illuminated. I made it to my final destination, when I began to back into a parking spot the brake pedal dropped to a position about an inch off the floor. Parked the truck and popped the hood to find almost all of the fluid gone. Only having fluid in the rear axle reservoir of the brake circuit. Pulled the vacuum sensor and the booster is filled with fluid..
Called Ford, had it towed to the dealer and its been sitting there ever since.... They have no loaners and have not even looked at it yet. I'm going to assume no parts are in stock just like all of the other threads I have read on here about this issue.
A few questions I have for those of you who have had this problem or have knowledge about it.
1. How long did it take for your truck to be repaired?
2. When the master cylinder seal leaks all of the fluid into the booster and the booster is pulling engine vacuum; does this mean that brake fluid is then pulled into the crankcase of the engine?
Really looking to get my truck back soon cause I love driving it! But the '74 F250 will have to do for now ....
In my one-owner purchased-new 2005 Prius w/ 74K miles and w/ no maintenance/accident history other than doing all scheduled maintenances at Toyota Dealers along w/ recalls applicable at each time (other than we had Toyota replace the 12V battery last year just because I knew it would die at some point anyway and I don't like pushing my luck; I'm not 100% certain if there's been a recall on any water pump for this car and if so, don't believe the dealer has mentioned it), I have the following indicators which appeared all at once while I was driving along at around 45 MPH in no unusual circumstances (80F, dry afternoon, about 30 minutes into a trip of mixed speeds, no loads in the vehicle, no effect on the car while driving):
From Left to Right on the display:
1) Red Triangle - Master Warning Light
2) Orange (Symbol)CHECK - Malfunction Indicator Lamp
3) Orange (!) - Brake Warning Light (but it didn't highlight the word 'Brake' in red)
4) Orange VSC - Vehicle Stability Control Warning Light

We immediately aimed for the house (about 5 miles away); the car drove perfectly fine, with the engine stopping and starting at lights as needed, with speeds going from the 55MPH we were traveling at the time of the alarms down to 0 and back up thru 35/45 MPH and such per normal off-interstate driving. The battery currently shows all the blue bars, and the engine and hybrid systems showed charge/discharge as usual as we drove. There was no discernible change in the driving reaction of the car to brake, steering, accelerator, etc.
Just purchased a 2003 GX470 with 160k and after the low brake fluid light came on I noticed the master cylinder had a leak. After removing the cover it appears the fluid has leaked for quite some time as the paint has started pealing from the frame. The brakes however appear to be working correctly. Upon purchase the front calipers were seized and I replaced both front calipers.
After having someone depress the brake pedal while I watched, the fluid leaks from the end of the master cylinder each time pedal is pressed in.
After doing some research it appears there is a rebuild kit for the master cylinder.
I recently bought a 2004 GX 470 with 89k miles. My dad did the 90k service like a champ and it runs very smoothly. However, I have recently noticed what I believe to be the brake master cylinder, which on a regular basis, has to keep compressing for about 4-6 seconds even while driving. We filled the fluid and it seemed to stop as I was pumping the brakes to test. But the next day it started again and the fluid is still at MAX level.
View 4 Repliesll, I changed out the master cylinder on my 2002 F-150, disk brakes front and back w/ ABS. Bleed all the air out and bench bleed the master cylinder. I have good pedal but the brake light will not go out.
View 6 RepliesMy son's 2006 F-150 4x4, with 107,000 miles, has in intermittent brake light on. I replaced the rear pads, as they were nearly into the rotors. The brake pedal feels fine in all braking conditions. Could the master cylinder still be going bad? Anything else to check?

I took it to the local dealer and they did a diagnostic, and they pulled the codes P0300, P3125, P0301, P0302, P0420, P3006, P3016, P3017. They said I would need to replace the the hybrid battery, the inverter, the catalytic converter, and the spark plugs.
