The transmission went out on my 2006 gs300 it is a rear wheel drive car but i am having a hard time finding anything but an awd transmission for that year. Where I can get one? Or I was talking to a mechanic and he was saying the the only difference between the two trannies is a adapter to go from awd to 2 wheel drive cars so I might be able to use an awd trans and pull the adapter of.

This weekend is the first time that I took the car out for a drive... When I got home, I noticed the left rear wheel area is covered with grease... I don't know where it came from... look like brownish goo... I splashed around the inner side of the wheel and also cover part of the rear brake caliper, brake line, and control arms.
What kind of grease is this?? Where is the grease came from???
My GS is all stock... No modification.... Currently has 62K on it.
Its a automatic transmission with a v6 4.3 vortec. The front axle will not engage, it is not the acuator (I replaced it and the cable) you can pull the cable and the axle will engage. There is a low buzzing noise(coming from the drivers side) until you give it gas. This noise stops when the front axle is engaged. The transfer case will go from hi to low without any problems.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2003 four wheel drive Kia Sorento. When not in four wheel drive it is rear wheel drive. On two occasions while driving on snow packed roads, I have had the rear loose traction and spin out luckily going into a soft snow bank. I have good tires, was driving about 15 miles per hour on a flat straight road and not applying the brakes. I can't figure out what is happening. So I started to put it in four wheel drive whenever there is snow pack on the roads. Typically I thought four wheel drive was only for "tough" conditions, but I haven't had a spin since using four wheel drive.

View 14 RepliesI have a 1988 F150 which is in beautiful shape. My father in law had it since 1989 and had "babied that truck" according to him. So it's running great, has a mere 92,000 miles, is an automatic with 4X4 with manual shifter to put it into 4X4 or Low 4X4. Here's the questions: When driving in rear-wheel drive mode (I never drive it on the street in 4X4 - we don't get snow here in SC) it has developed a hard shift from first to second. It feels like it bumps when shifting. When empty it shifts at about 3200 RPM at average acceleration, which I think is a little high. Does RPM even matter when the shift occurs? Can the tranny be adjusted to shift at a lower RPM? Is my tranny about to go kerplunk? The transmission fluid was a tad low so I topped it off but that didn't seem to work.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2006 F150 4x4 5.4L 43000mi. My four wheel drive is not working. I have the dash mounted switch to switch it into 4x4 Hi 4x4 Low. When I put the switch into 4x4 Hi nothing happens. 4x4 does not engage, and the 4x4 Hi light on the dash does not illuminate. I get the same symptom when the switch is placed into 4x4 Low. I have checked all of the 4x4 fuses and they are ok. I checked all of the vacuum lines to the hubs and they appear to be intact. What I should check next? What would cause this?
View 14 RepliesMy wife drives a 06 Mountaineer last spring a left front brake caliper piston seized up and there was damage to the rotor I replaced both rotors and that left front caliper then I changed out the rear pads as well . Then ever so often before that the ABS light on the dash would pop on hit reset it wold go off now it just stays on.
Then a few weeks ago she said the little yellow lines that indicate you are in all wheel drive started to flicker on .. Have not a clue as to why that is on now . But I would told most code readers would not read these sort of problems that I needed to get it to a dealer..
Lately, I've been having an issue with my 03 GX. It seems when the engine is cold and I back out of my driveway, when I put the truck into D, I feel the usual bump into drive, then it falls off and then a harder bump before I'm able to roll forward. If I don't pay attention and accelerate at the time the transmission seems to drop out of gear momentarily, the truck slams into gear and feels like I granny dropped it.
The truck is coming up on 120K. I've checked the transmission fluid and it is at the correct level.
220,000 miles, auto transmission slip in drive, reverse ok. What needs to be fixed and what will it cost?

View 5 RepliesWe recently had an issue with our 2011 GX460. My wife first experienced the transmission not wanting to engage after being put in drive. Once it did engage there was a loud bang/pop noise, then no issues afterwards. The same thing happened to me this weekend. It was weird, like the brakes had frozen up then suddenly released and the transmission slammed into gear. We bought the vehicle used a couple months ago with 39k miles. With factory warranty remaining it will be heading to the dealer shortly.
View 14 RepliesI recently bought 2007 ES 350 drove @700+ miles, 2 times I had this incident in this week, the latest is today. In cold morning when I try to drive the vehicle when it is cold when I pull the lever to drive mode the accelerator increases the RPM but the car is not rolling or I should say very very snail pace, so I tried pushing the lever back to park, then reverse drive the vehicle and then engage to drive mode it works fine but I hear lot of fan sound. For initial few min I feel that it is not picking up much speed but then it becomes normal. It really tensed me. What action can be taken to resolve this?
As per the Autocheck report this was manufactured in Jun 2006 and the vehicle service records from Lexus web there is no sign of any transmission problem or fix to transmission. The car has 100K+ miles on it.
My 2011 Hatchback automatic has developed a whine in park, neutral and drive. ATF fluid level ok and changed by dealer every 25,000 miles. Seems to be coming from under the car. Could it be the transmission oil pump? If so, does it mean removing transmission to replace? I don't think it's the fuel pump. 62,000 miles.

What I want to know is since the transmission has in internal filter, is it possible for me to clean it out to get rid of the whining sound?
View 8 RepliesHaven't noticed it before, but now I pay attention to my steering wheel - when the car is stopped on Drive mode I can feel a slight vibration on the steering. Shifting to P mode eliminates is. Is it ok? Do Your steering wheels vibrate when You stop at the traffic lights?
View 10 RepliesI'm not sure if this is normal, but I have noticed a slight vibration in the steering wheel. This happens when the engine is completely warmed up and If I'm sitting at a complete stop in drive (no air conditioning, seat warmers, or headlights on) it happens. It is not a vibration where the idle goes up and down. The rpm gauge shows that it is between a consistent 550-600 rpms. When the headlights or air is on, the idle goes to around 700-750 and the steering wheel vibrations go away. I do not have any cel on and I know the car is not miss firing. I think it's just because the low idle.
View 9 RepliesI have an interesting automatic transmission problem. Hot or cold makes NO difference. When the car is started, put in reverse it will work perfectly 100% of the time. When the car is started, put in Drive the transmission will slip for about 5-10 seconds before working perfectly. When the car is started, if you wait 3-5 minutes, then put it in Drive it will work perfectly.
View 13 RepliesI have a 2015 Lexus rx 350 it is not all wheel drive. When I put the transmission in drive or reverse I have what I would call a double engagement. It feels like it is going into gear twice. It does not slip it shifts smooth.
