Aug 14, 2014
I just painted some of the plastics in my engine bay... I wanted some feedback on what i should paint the center plastic of the engine... I was thinking red and silver or black and silver....

I had the fuel pressure sensor recall done recently, and I got the car back with 2 plastic pins missing from the engine compartment covers.
Car went in with all of the pins in place. No big deal, I have a bag of pins and I can replace them.
But then I wonder, if they're careless about small things like pins, are they putting my engine back together with all the bolts and screws???
My dad once told me a story about a coworker who used to work the Ford assembly line. They would sometimes put in 3 bolts where 4 were required.
One day, if my engine fails, it may be hard to prove the dealership was the cause.

After about one year on driving (about 25000 km) my factory blades began painting rainbows on the windshield. These original Denso-made wipers were really good, survived almost two full winter seasons. I replaced them with the highly regarded PIAA silicone blades - the Aero Vogue hybrid ones. Will see how long they will last.
The upper blade is PIAA, the lower is factory installed Denso one.

I recently got a 2014 Lexus GS F-Sport, fully loaded. I made a dumb mistake of taking my car in to a shop to have my roof vinyl'd black. And so, they also had to blackout the shark fin antenna on top. They recommended painting it metallic black as it wouldn't have looked good wrapped. So I agreed without knowing. After painting and taking the car home, I noticed the Navigation was off and my GPS was showing me going in a completely different direction. I have calibrated it so many times and it stays on course with me for about one block then starts going off into a different direction on its own. Will removing the paint fix this? Is this something the Dealer has to handle, and if so, charge me for it?

I swiped off my passenger side on a railing turning right coming out a tiny street. My 15'ES300H is barely few months old and only has 3K miles. Its a pretty decent size swipe on both doors with a little dent in. I checked with all body shops in town and they all say they go with the paint code 1H9 (nebula grey). The one shop I have working on it is trying hard to match it and its close but no matter what how they try to mix, its not a perfect match. I read that Lexus does two base coats one with larger aluminum flakes for sun light and one base coat with smaller aluminum flakes for low light. I am not sure if they just give a single paint code how a body shop cna figure out the two compositions. The guy showed me and there is only one composition and no alternates for this 1H9 code. Being a new car, I thought it would match perfectly but obviously not. This is a little crazy that Lexus has a painting technique that no one can match. So if you have minor scuff etc on your Lexus, you can't match it with rest of the car.

Can a piece inside the HID be replaced. I noticed that my bulb was coming loose because every now and then the light would stop working.
I'd open the hood tighten it and all would be good for weeks sometimes months. Today it stopped and I opened it and this time it had a burning plastic smell.
Can this piece be replaced?

I put aftermarket fog light bulbs and after a while I realized that it was melting the plastic piece that that bulb connects to. I realized it when my light went off then when i play with the socket it turns back on which is a bad connection. I called the dealer up and asked what do I need to do and he told me that I need to change the whole entire wire that connects from the harness, which will run me about a grand.

I've got a case of dash rattle. I hit a small bump and I hear a small but plasticky rattle sound from (I think) the center of my plasticky dash. IT BUGS ME!
I wonder how I'd be letting the dealer tear apart my dash. The car has been on the road a full 2 months... First new car with dash rattle.

How to repair some scratches in the center console on an IS F? The scratches are in the vertical black plastic section of the center console. I stupidly scratched it one day I needed to take the driver seat out, when I was putting the seat back in the car. The scratches are basically where the buckle for the seat belt is (to the right of your right leg, if you're the driver.)

Just purchased my first ever Ford truck a few weeks ago, it's a 2012, and where the drivers right arm rested on the center console, near the cupholder, it's perpetually sticky. At first i thought it was just filthy, but after thoroughly cleaning it, it just stays sticky.

How to replace this light? I haven't found any threads on this as it seems like it's easily overlooked. The light bulb is located at the back of the center console box that lights up when opened. It's very dim and I have a few LEDs hanging around I'd like to replace it with.

One of the brackets that connects the tray inside the center console is broken. I wanted to order the part but I only see the inside tray available to buy, not the brackets. I was wondering if I ordered the tray, will the brackets come with it? I don't want to order the tray and then it turns out no brackets, then I'll be stuck with an extra tray. The closest part number I see on Sewell is Part # 58801E.

My car did not start, not even turn when pressing start button, and on the center display board, I get "check VSC". I am pretty new at Lexus. Anything I should check or look into?

Wife bought an '06 GS300. Not a bad car, but isn't my 2000 Camry either.... Of course I pick my Camry to the Lexus. I noticed driving it from the day she bought it with 75K on it, it has a jerk or detent when the steering wheel is brought back to center. On the road it drives me nuts, cause I was gifted at driving a car without tossing the passengers back and forth while going down the hwy and in the twisties. I turn and return, I don't try to crack sniff my way down the road. So the dealer can't feel it, the wife feels it some, and low and behold today, I bumped into a co-worker with the same model/year. She feels it too.

I just bought a 2011 GTI in Steel Gray Metallic. The first thing I did was remove the front license plate holder.
Doing that revealed 3 large holes (about 8mm), and 2 small screw holes. I'd like to repair this myself or have a shop do it.
Is there a relatively easy way to fix this myself (other than putting the holder back on)?

Both of the headlights on my 2007 Accent 3-door have blistering of the chrome plastic inside the headlight. This started a year or so ago, I asked about it at the dealership, but I never got a call. At the time my life was pretty hectic and the dealership is about a 45 minute drive from my house. I asked about it at least one other time when I was there for service, someone was going to check on it, and again I heard nothing more.

I have a 2007 Sonata V6 with 198,000km (123,000 miles) and when I was driving yesterday I smelt a burning smell like burning rubber or plastic. The smell seemed to go away after a while and I was wondering what could have caused it?

GS 350 AWD. I use the plastic pipe attached to a tube for draining. Worked fine the first few oil changes, but now it won't drain. The only way I can get it to drain is to leave the pipe attached and very, very briefly start the car and then turn it off. Then the oil pours out as it should. This happened the last time as well. I'm now at about 40,000 miles.
