View 1 RepliesThis is my first Lexus and first new car in a long time. I have a 2015 3IS RWD and looking through the Services Guide I don't see any service interval for replacing the rear diff fluid or the trans fluid. All the manual says is under "inspect the following" check diff fluid level and check trans for leaks--and that the trans is a closed unit with no dip stick.
As far as my automotive knowledge goes, all transmissions are closed and yet many in the past have had dip sticks. Also, I've never heard of just topping off diff fluid if you're low. And both definitely have had service intervals! I change the diff fluid in my S2000 every 15K miles.
I find it hard to believe that the Diff and Trans fluid doesn't EVER need to be replaced. What are the service intervals for these two and the fluid weights?
It may sound silly, but can I lift my 04 explorer by the rear differential to change brakes etc? I have NOT had a Independant suspension vehicle prior to this and dont want to mess up anything. If I cannot use that point to lift it, where is a point to lift it using a floor jack so I can service the rear of the vehicle after I place it on jack stands?
View 7 RepliesChanging the front diff fluid on truck. I was looking at mine today and it looks like the top bolts will be difficult to reach.
I also tried to suck the fluid out of the fill hole but couldn't really fit a tube into the differential.
I have a Honda PIlot 2011 which I took to my local Shell service shop . The code the car showed was B1236. One of the many things they did was to change the differential fluid. After I picked up the car from the shop, I noticed a slight sound from the rear wheels when I would make a right turn. I took it back to the shop and had them look at it. We did a few sharp right and left turns and we heard nothing. I drove the car away and a few days later noticed the sound to be more noticeable. At this time, I took it to my Honda Dealer. They noticed that the fluid in the rear differential did not seem to be right one and the sound was because of that . Can a wrong fluid damage the rear differential? They are also recommending that we change the rear differential which off course is extremely pricy.
View 7 RepliesI have a 7.3 2003 Excursion. Should I change the gearing in the rear differential to make the truck go faster at lower RPMs? I know that will decrease my towing capability.
View 12 RepliesI have a quick question. I am gonna change the fluid in my 01 f250 rear end. it has 410 gears and a limited slip diff. if i use full synthetic gear oil do i have to add the limited slip additive or just the 75w-140 full synthetic gear oil.
View 14 RepliesI'm wondering when I should get the spark plugs change.
I have 08 GS350 with 57k.
My 07 GS350 for the second time, gave me a low oil warning light. the car has 114k and had the cam TSB work done. The first time I had low oil was about 2,300 miles ago when my alternator started burning. Got that replaced along with a oil change, brakes, coolant flush and belt change (i know i know I got raped by the dealer). Last night driving to the gas station with car almost on E the low oil warning came on again..I always have them put 5W-30 synthetic but during my last oil change they put in 5w-20. I don't think that this would do anything however. Not due for an oil change. I spent about $1200 on the car in January to fix the previously mentioned issues. I love my GS and do not want to get rid of her. What are my options? What could be wrong?
View 12 RepliesI was trying to find a guide on how to change out my reverse lights to LED, I'm having problems removing the panel. The guide i found on here had all the pictures removed. I'm also trying to change the lights for the make up mirror.
View 14 RepliesI'm getting my struts replaced tomorrow on all corners, but the mechanic said my sway bar might break and may require replacement because my car is around 10 years old, is this true?
View 8 RepliesI have a 2008 Gs 350, and I want to change the front of my lights. I was thinking maybe like for the fog lights HID yellow and make the day lights match the head lights. Or make everything match?
View 14 RepliesIt is the little handle that allows me to change the direction of the air coming out from the cabin vents. Two of those little handles have fell off recently and I can no longer move around the direction of the air flow unless I stick a pen or something in there.
What is the name of this part ?
Wanted to change my stock yellow high beam (DRL) bulb to an LED bulb i bought from jdmtoys I also changed the parking light to LED and it works perfectly, so after changing the high beam bulbs it worked for few seconds then stopped working... I put back the stock high beam bulbs and it still is not working did i blow a fuse or something? Now when I turn the high beam on my headlight turns on instead of the high beam....
This is the bulb i purchased : [URL] .....
I seem to have oil leaking from my front differential. The oil seem to be leaking from where the axle comes out of the differential.
View 2 RepliesMy wife has tribeca B9 (2006) and the rear diff light comes on when she is driving and goes off when she comes to a stop. It does not flicker and the elec connector looks OK, and the oil looks good and is full. Can this be caused by uneven tire wear or the rear tires being out of alignment?
View 2 RepliesThe VSC OFF and Center Differential Lock lights come on yesterday on my wife's 05 GX470. I connected the OBD2 code reader, but it says "no error codes found". Since there are no error codes, I am at a lost in trying to figure out the root cause.
View 14 RepliesIt happened today the Differential Lock light is on, I feel the difference right away on the parking lot and start nervous, could not figure out what is the light do. Pull the manual and read, found out the switch is below the steer. I guess my knee might touch the button!
Anyway, push the button, the light starts blinking, not turning off! What to do? Eventually find out the trick is to drive a few feet on the parking lot, the light is magically off!

I just replaced the firewall actuator valve for the hubs, and went to try out the 4 wheel drive. The hubs engage and lock to the axle shaft, the transfer case engages and locks to the front driveline, but the front differential isn't doing anything. Is there an actuator for the front or did something break inside?
At 120K mi, had ALL the service work done. Changing the trans fluid as well as the 4WD differential was due. A noise in the rear diff began. So the mech said a Honda bulletin stated that this happens sometimes when changing the fluid. Ok. Changed it again. ANYWAY, the noise is still slightly there when going from a stopped position .... steering wheel all the way to one side or the other ... and giving the gas. IS THE REAR DIFF BEING DAMAGED?
