Lexus GS 2006-11 :: Headlights Can Be Restored?
Jun 10, 2014
So I've been taking apart my 06 GS430 for about a week now. Dealing with all the small kinks I'd like to get out of the way.
One major and possibly costly fix are my headlights. Since I purchased the car back in 2012 the headlight lenses were slightly cracking on the inside but not so bad. Though now it's more noticeable than ever and it's really bugging me. I've never had an experience taking headlights apart nor do I have the talent to do so. I'd probably go to a friend that does this type of stuff..
My question before I end up spending an arm and a leg on new headlights. Can these be restored in any way?

Just curious about power loss issue that occurred yesterday.
I have a lengthy commute and in the afternoon drive home I get into a great deal of stop and go rush hour traffic. Yesterday about a fourth of the way in as I was slowing down the red battery light came on, the radio stopped, and interior lights dimmed, ie a general loss of power. As soon as I hit the accelerator all the power was restored. This occurred frequently the rest of the commute, but the loss of power became worse. There was never a hint that the engine was going to stall.
I assumed it was likely my battery going bad and that the car would likely not start this morning and I would jump it and get the battery checked. However, I had a full power crank. The drive to work does not have the stop and go, thus I only had to stop at a few red lights, and there was no power loss, until just as I arrived at work, the radio went off and came back on, but no battery light or anything like that.

I ran into this problem on my 2006 GS 430. It was caused by the lights beginning to wear out. It started on my left bulb and then both started doing it. The info was a great as originally I thought it was the ballasts. These are very expensive and hard to change.
One other word of caution, make sure the car is off for at least an hour so the high voltage in the ballast dissipates. These bulbs operate at something like 50,000 volts and that will definitely stand your hair up.

My Gs350 headlights are HID's I'm not sure if I'm suppose to change the bulb or the ballast itself... It does it on both lights and they both go out randomly or at the same time...

A few days ago my stock 2006 GS300 AFS off light began flashing, at which point the headlights seemed at a normal level and operating as expected. The next time I started the car, the AFS off light was not flashing, and the headlights were aimed way too low. From time to time, the AFS off light will come on now and the headlights will be at an acceptable height, but if the light DOES NOT come on, they are aimed too low (like 2 feet in front). I am not sure if I should manually adjust the AFS sensor, as when the AFS off light comes on will they then be pointed too high?

I have a 2006 GS300. I have had a few oddball issues with my car (the engine rattle at start up....the water backing up in the floor behind the passenger seat etc.... ) but this one has me baffled. I turn on the headlights and one or both will randomly go out. Sometimes its the left and sometimes its the right. When this problem started, I thought it was the bulbs so I tried changing the bulbs but that didn't work.
When I turn them on, they both come on and then I leave the house and drive for a few miles, then I will notice that one of them goes out, so I turn the lights completely off and then right back on and they both come back on. Then a few minutes later one or the other will go out again. Sometimes they both go out while I am driving, so I need to flick them off and back on. I have no problem with the high beams or the running lights. I don't drive too much at night so it hasn't been a huge hassle, but it is definitely a problem.

Locked the car with remote and went shopping and to dinner(gone about 5 hours), when we came out the headlights and brake lights were on... Does the head and brake lights stay on after the security alarm system goes off?

I've got a 2006 GS 300 and in automatic mode, when it turns on my low beam head lights, the driver's side does not turn on automatically. I have to manually turn off the lights then turn them back on and everything works fine. I have aftermarket ~5000K bulbs installed, Garax, I think (I assume they're real ones, I bought them from either XenonDepot or Nigel... can't remember). The bulbs are about 3.5 to 4 years old. Ballasts are the originals.
On a side note, I wasn't really impressed by the Garax. Might switch to Ultinons. Then again the stock 4300k sucked as well. I'd like to get some halfway decent lighting on this car without having to retrofit lenses.
The bulbs are not from XenonDepot or Nigel, they are from theretrofitsource.com (D4S: Morimoto XenGreen (XenGrnD4S) Kelvin 5000K). I don't think they are a quality product, IMO.

I can't seem to get the headlights to adjust vertically on my 2006 GS430... I was able to do the horizontal and high beam adjustments done fine. It's just that when I try to adjust the vertical it does nothing... there's that gauge with the two bubble containers that you look at. When i look through the small window at it and screw the adjustment, all it does is move that little tube with the bubble either forward or backward. The bubble doesn't move. It seems to be stuck on the end where the front of the car is. The whole thing just moves!!! when i screw it clockwise, it will move the tube to the left and when i screw it counterclockwise it will move it to the right. I can move it all the way to the left or all the way to the right but the bubble just will not move.

I have a completely stock 06 GS 300 AWD. Just noticed this morning in traffic that my lights keep wondering up/down while I'm stopped ?? Arrived at work and watched the lights shinning against the office wall, still going up/down... I'm assuming hunting for level ?
Not sure if this is happening while driving.. needs to be a fair dark night & smooth road to see if it is doing this. Because both lights are doing this simultaneously I'm thinking its the control module ?

Normally my head light turn off automatically when I turn off the engine and open the driver's door. Now, it works randomly which caused my battery to be drained.
I feel that the sensor on the door does not trigger to tell the car to turn off the lights.

First problem is, for the first 6 months or so I had my 08 460, the headlights would automatically turn off when I opened the door, now it doesn't. I have to manually click back the light switch inside. It's more annoying because I'm used to just leaving the car and they turn off when opening the door so I didn't notice they were on when I left the car during the day only to come back hours later to a dead car. Needed a jump. Not sure if there a way to change the settings for this that I might have changed?
Second issue is ever since I got my car every single time I start my car my mirrors are in a different position, they're almost always way too high so I can't see cars in the lanes and end up readjusting them while I'm driving which becomes annoying when you have to do that every day, I've set the mirror settings on my memory for all 3 settings, and if I hit memory before driving they'll go to that, so I don't know why they change. The mirrors function properly with the controls so they're not broken.

So im driving home and i realize one of my headlights are out. I get home and turn them and turn them back on and the headlight turns very dim for a couple of seconds, and then shuts off. What this could be? Ballast or Bulb. I have major modifications done to the wheels wells to fit the wheels, so i don't want to take it to the dealer.

I gotta problem with my headlights. they're too low and I tried to raise them with the adjustment screws but they won't move up no matter how long I crank em... Plus the high beams are also aimed low. Does the adjustment screws both the low and high beams?

The low beams on my 2010 Sonata seem dim compared to my other vehicles. I do not want to install HID lamps but would like a recommendation for a brighter lamp.

I have a 2010 sonata GLS which just turned a year old today. About a month or so ago I bought a 8000K HID kit. Its been working fine but the other night i went to leave a friends house and my headlights would not turn on at all. I replaced the fuse and still nothing. All the wiring is fine on the kit and inside the harness and the headlight. I don't know what to do. I have 2500K yellow high beams and I've been driving with them for the last few days but they blind people and i hate driving with them on. This didn't start until the day i took the car to the dealer for an oil change. what should i do?

I'm wondering if any of you ever had problems with your headlight vertical adjuster motor. Ever experienced the headlights dancing up and down?

The 2010 elantra touring gls has headlights that are angled too low. The low beams project toward the ground and its especially bad on hills, making it difficult to see more than 50 feet in front of you. The high beams are misaligned as well, the passenger side higher than the driver side. When the original owner went to the dealer after purchasing, they said they could not further adjust the angle. I find this hard to believe, but she drove it for 6 years like this.

Headlights will not go off no matter what the switch position. Can only get them off by pulling the fuses

I have a Toyota Tacoma 2006 which lacks all the gadgetry and techno-wizardry of the Prius C model three (which I just purchased). Yet the moment I lock the truck with the key fob, if the headlights were left on they turn off instantly, allowing me to walk away with peace of mind that I won't return to a drained battery. I love this feature on my Tacoma because I can leave my lights on pretty much all the time which allows me to pull out of the lighted parking garage in the evening without driving for multiple city blocks unaware that my lights are off.
My issue: I just bought the Prius C to work more efficiently consume gas during my 60 mile commute, and I'm surprised to discover that the headlights just remain on even when turning off the car and engaging the locks/alarm.
Someone told me that they supposedly go off after 20 minutes but I'm not comfortable walking away from the vehicle and trusting that this will happen.
Is there a way to ensure that the headlights go off when the car is powered off and the locks/security system is activated? If there's a "window" of time that it takes, can this be adjusted?
BTW, averaging over 50 MPG each way to work despite the "47 MPG HWY" EPA estimate...
