Lexus GS 2006-11 :: Could Not Open The Trunk
Dec 22, 2015
I had a flat tire yesterday and when my husband went to change the tire we couldn't open the trunk. I tried pushing the button in the glove box and I still can't open it.

View 1 RepliesI am the owner of a 2006 GS430. I went to open my trunk last night and suddenly it will NOT open. I used both the remote and the trunk button inside the car and still can't seem to get anywhere.
View 9 RepliesI have a 2006 GS 300. The trunk will not open with the remote or the dash switch. The glove box switch is in the operate position and the fuse is good.
View 14 RepliesMy trunk won't open with the button on key FOB, interior button, and trunk-lid button. I did check the glove compartment valet button multiple times as well. No luck there. The trunk does open manually with the metal key from the key FOB, just not the other buttons.
EDIT: The key FOB button works in that it makes the long beep noise, but the trunk does not pop. The auto-shut function does not work either. Just checked the driver side panel "TRK OPN" fuse and that's perfectly fine.
Could it be a bad solenoid? Bad latch or fuse?
I went to open my trunk the other day by pressing the button on the trunk, and nothing, key in my pocket with a fresh battery (replaced in June). I then pulled out my key and pressed the trunk release on the fob and again nothing. I then went to the trunk release in the dash, and again nothing. I ended up pulling the key blade out and using that.... so inconvenient. ..
I did also check the fuse for the trunk release and it's still good...
I have a 2008 GS350 AWD. One day, the trunk stopped working. The trunk button next to the drivers seat doesn't work nor does the button on the key fob work. I already pressed the valet button in the glove box, so I know its not that. Every time I try to open the trunk with the key fob, it'll beep but the trunk won't open. The ONLY way to get it open is to many insert the key that's hidden in the fob.
I read a couple of threads regarding this problem. Some say they went to lexus and was charged 1600 while others say they fixed it themselves.
One person said "They unplugged the wiring harness from the ECU (Electronic Control Unit? I guess). Once the harness was plugged back in the ECU reset and trunk works fine now. However they tell me it could happen again."
Where exactly is the wiring harness/ecu? Any diagram that I could follow?
Another person wrote "Took it to Lexus and they told me it would cost over $1600 to fix. Found your post, opened the trunk to disconnect the cable to the ECU. It would require some dissasembly. Leaving the trunk open, I disconnected the main battery ground and waited 5 minutes and reconnected the ground. This also reset the ECU. I closed the trunk and now everything works fine again."
Where is the "main battery ground"? Is he referring to the same battery that you hook up jumper cables to? if so, how do I disconnect the main battery.

I don't hear the motor lock the trunk either. I can open it with a broom handle through the back seat ok or with the actual metal key, but pressing the button on the remote or next to the steering wheel does nothing. I checked the fuse, and the glove box switch.
Anything else I can try? It's no worry since its still under warranty, but if it's something simple it would save me the trip.
The fob we use most often will not open the doors or trunk, although it will work when I use it in the ignition. The battery is ok. VW Passat 2006 ...
View 2 RepliesIt is very cold up here in WI and this week, I found that the trunk lid would not power open. It would unlatch and then just sit there. There was no ice in the way and it would power down normally. When parked in the garage overnight it was ok but at work at the end of the day it would not do its thing.
View 2 RepliesThe shocks (or whatever) that keep the trunk open have gone bad. Of course it happened a month after my warranty expired. They look easy to replace. Where to get them, cost, and how to install? I don't like going to my Lexus dealer. They make me feel like a criminal for not changing my oil every 5k, changing my own filters, etc, etc. etc.
View 14 RepliesSo today I walk out Walmart getting ready to put some groceries in my trunk and it won't open. It beeps... But will not open. I've tried the button on both the remote and inside the car. Hell I even took a long stick and went through the middle of the back seat and pulled the trunk release inside the trunk lid.. And it still won't open.... No I did not touch the trunk cancel button in the glove. All it does is beeps. It won't open.
View 14 RepliesSo I had opportunity to drive a Buick Lacrosse. When I popped the trunk, it sprung open all the way which my Lexus does not do. While the rest of that Lacrosse was garbage, I really liked that the trunk did that. Especially when your hands are full. Am I whining enough yet? So this is normal right?
View 12 RepliesI just bought 2008 hyundai accent with 51,000 miles and it drives great. Only issue so far is the trunk latch sticks when i open it, and i have to unstick it to close. I ordered an OEM handle from the dealer in hopes that it's the part i need. Any tips on how to replace. I pulled the trim off to look under there and spray some lubricant on it. But not sure how complicated the latch will be to replace.
View 13 RepliesI have a 2006 Sonata. The trunk will not open with remote, latch or key. What do I do? There isnt a vallet switch.
View 1 RepliesMy 2010 elantra's trunk has been popping open for no reason, probably at least twenty times since I bought it last december, usually while I am driving. Hyundai service says they've never heard that complaint before. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the remote being activated by something other than pressing the button? While I'm driving the remote is usually dangling off the ignition along with some other keys.
View 4 RepliesI have Sonata 06 3.3L V6, vacuum getting confirmed code p0171 system too lean bank 1,and pending faults are both lean and rich on both banks and also at idle. i check vacuum leaks but no luck, one thing I observed when I drove car at high speed only 3000 rpm or above LTFT 1 corrected to 0. I am using torque app.
I can not open my trunk through remote key, it is opening with driver side switch, trunk lid latch is unlocked position, remote key is working fine with doors.?
When I first got my 2006 Lexus RX400h (LOVE the car, btw), I would unlock all the doors by clicking twice on the unlock button on the key fob, then hold it down to open the trunk.
My dad went to get something from the trunk and I gave him the same instructions. Well when he did it (we were in the middle of a rain storm) all of the windows opened and not the trunk. Now this is what happens every time.
I'm not sure what happened, but I'm really missing opening my trunk through my key fob especially when my hands are full. Why this is happening and how I can open my trunk using the key fob again?
Today my daughter left car key on trunk(lexues es 350,2008), No spare key. Is there any way can I open the door myself or should I call key company and pay to them to fix it?
View 5 RepliesMy trunk won't open from the inside or with the key fob? The only way to open the trunk is by detaching the key and using it manually. What gives....
View 3 Repliesjust tradred my IS for an LS and cant seem to open the trunk with the oem remote , even while pressing the button and holding it? i tried the override switch in glove box, no luck. if i open with key and press button on trunk lid, it will close!
View 3 RepliesLast Sunday I packed the trunk of 2007 LS 460 full. When I closed the trunk a strap from a backpack became jammed into the trunk lock. The trunk would not open with either the key or the internal release. I called Lexus Road side support and they told me to go to a dealer. The dealer was able to open the trunk by disconnecting the battery for 10 seconds. After reconnecting the battery, they releasing the trunk using the internal release while another person pushed down on the lid. This took all of 10 minutes. None of these instructions are in the TIS database.
