I came into my car, I was cleaning my cup holder and the bottem is MELTED! All I keep there is GUM and drinks. The melted plastic is the same dent as if I staked the gum box. What kind of cheap plasic is Lexus using? I can't believe its gotten THAT hot in the car. Heck, I would figure other things to melt first. To top it off, the gum box looks ok. No plastic smell from it either.
View 14 RepliesWhat the heck caused this? Something melted through the license plate holder, then through the plastic of the bumper, down to the metal body. A week ago I had the timing belt, plugs and water pump replaced by my mechanic here in Orlando. I didn't notice anything when I picked it up but I didn't really do a visual inspection of the front of the car either since it was parked facing a fence when I picked it up. Since then it has been driven by my wife to work 3 times. While there, she parks against and facing her building with only a row of shrubs in front of her. And at home it's parked in our garage with about a distance of 3 feet from the washing machine. I asked at my repair shop and they said they had no idea what could have caused this other than a diesel truck, however there is no residue typical of a diesel exhaust.
View 19 RepliesUnfortunately my HID bulb wasn't secure in the headlight assembly and melted the part that holds the bulb in place in the headlight assembly.
My question is if that part that retains the bulb is replaceable or I will need to replace the whole head light assembly? ( The wire connector is fine.)

I recently bought a 97 960. i have had a s90 before in totaled it i loved the car so much i found another. i was driving and broke the timing belt tensioner which in turn lead to the breaking of 5 exhaust valves that i know of. I've taken off the head and noticed that one of the bottom of the valves had melted onto the number 5 piston head.
I called around and search but every motor is at least 1000 and i have been told anywhere from 3500-4500 to rebuild. My question would b is there an easy way to fix or should i junk it. i bought it for a 1000 it has only 140000 on it an its in almost great condition. I attached some pictures of the head and piston so u can see the damage.

In my 2010 Elantra, I have the 2 cup holder in the middle with the flap/lid cover that retracts into the side when opening. It seems a pen has gone down in that groove so now the lid does not open enough to get a drink into the holder. Any tips on getting the pen out from the bottom of the channel where the lid folds into??

I can unzip the leather and there is two screws in the back that can be removed and the cup holder comes out. Can replace just the cup holder?

Since the holder doesn't truly have any electrical components what is the purpose of it? Additionally, I've noticed since I unplugged this harness, my LuxLink has stopped responding. How this can be related?

Car wash guys say it's due to not having a full plate holder, where as 4 screws secure the plate vs. only the top 2 as we have. Any plate holder from another vehicle that I might adapt to overcome this?

View 1 RepliesMy new-to-me '07 Elantra has 109k on it & I'm not sure if the clutch is orig or 2nd. It doesn't slip in any gear, but the actual active section of pedal is really only the bottom 3". If the pedal is not on the floor board It isn't fully disengaged. When letting out the clutch it is effectively fully out after only 2-3" off the floor. With that said the 'free play' is only the very top 1/4-1/2" as it should be.
I've never had a clutch that felt as this one does, & I have 15yrs history driving manuals.
My first thoughts are:
1. clutch disc is almost gone & getting ready to start slipping
2. restrictor valve is clogged
3. slave cylinder is weak & not throwing full range anymore
The GX did not ride as smooth and hit hard on dips and bumps like a speed bump.
Air bags fill properly. Shock are damp around pistons, but definitely not blown out. My vehicle has 188,000 miles on it.
Dealer looked at and drove with me two times: Report: All working proper. The recommendation to put the air level control to high and then back to normal did improve the condition but not like when new.
Vehicle rode better with a load in the back, and or people in back seats. So I read where someone had a theory that the height sensors might degrade over time, and the normal position might have drifted out of range.
I adjusted the height sensors to ride a little higher (as I could see on the rear axle the rubber bump stops had been making contact a lot- it was all clean and shiny).
Raised the rear about 1/2" on each side. Did a lot of measurements from ground to bottom of wheel opening (not the best reference point, but at least I had one).
Result: Raising the ride height, thus increasing the travel to the bump stops totally brought back the good ride it had when newer. I also believe the increased height means the air bags have more pressure, thus more spring rate. So it takes more force to compress and travel to the bump stops.
My battery got too low and messed up my passenger window after charged. The issue now is...the strangest issue I've seen.. The passenger window! If I push the down button where it will automatically go down it just goes down and stops about an inch from hitting the bottom, If I push the up button to automatically go up BUT it will automatically goes down by itself when it hit the top and stop about an inch from bottom..
If I push the button soft to go up slowly and then let go the button when it reach the top it will stay.. Like I said it will not go down all the way, stop about an inch from bottom.
how the bottom of the radiator of a 2008 Rx400h is attached? I have the radiator all disassembled except for whatever is holding its bottom to the car. I have a detailed pdf of how to remove a 2006's radiator, but the method of mounting shown for that year doesn't match my 2008.
