When I drive with windows down I can hear a whirring from the motor. Its like if it is low on power steering fluid. Its not constant with RPM. I am pretty sure the steering is electric but WTH can it be? I am dreading winter cause I will have windows down all the time then and I will have to crank the stereo to block it out.
View 12 RepliesI just picked up my new 14 SFS Limited last month love everything about it. On a recent quick trip to the gas station I didnt have the radio on and was just driving in silence and noticed an annoying whirring noise while at a light.
This whirring noise only happens when the car is in drive, and has to be driven just a few meters then when you apply the breaks (at a stop light or stop sign) after 2 seconds a faint whirring noise starts up. When you lift off the breaks the noise goes away but when you apply the break again the noise is replicated.
We are only one week in to owning our 2006 Prius! Question is why does it sound like a motor whirring sound after turning it off? It only lasts 20 to 30 seconds, just wondering if this is a normal sound?

View 13 RepliesStarted getting a whirring / rubbing sound during deceleration and took it into dealer for diagnostics. They said driveshaft needs replacement. Fortunately they are covering under warranty but it's got me concerned about longevity.
I've got an APR Stage 1 ECU upgrade but otherwise stock. Not a track car and i'm not moonlighting at the drag strip dropping the clutch at 5000 RPMs to try and make into the 11's so am baffled by the issue.
I don't know if this is normal, but my ES350making a (not loud) whirring noise only in reverse. I'm not sure if this is normal.
View 4 RepliesI've got 2013 es 350 with 10,000 miles on now. I have recently noticed that there was whining/whirring noise coming from the engine(I guess) while accelerating up to 45 mph. It seems that the noise goes along with the RPM since it gets louder when accelerating. It makes same noise when decelerating from 30 mph and it goes away when the car stops. A friend of mine drove the car once before but did not hear anything until I told him about the noise, so I guess it is not very noticeable to some people. At the 10,000 miles check up at the dealer, I mentioned about it and they said they did not hear anything, but I know for sure there is whirring/whining noise.
View 14 RepliesThe windows/moonroof wont open when using the fob. I unsuccessfully tried pressing and holding multiple button combos. with every other car I've had. I just had to hold down the unlock button or press it a few time.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2002 santa fe 2.7. I just had the transmission rebuilt and since then have noticed a clunking sound when I shift into drive or reverse. It seems to be the lower motor mount is making noise from the motor moving the mount. I look at the mount and it appears to look good, but was wondering how I can really tell if a motor mount needs replacing or not.
View 3 RepliesHaving a fan like sound apparently coming from the gas tank, but different than what everybody is saying is the fuel pump- its not a whirring sound under the drivers seat and not while the engine is running. I have heard this a couple of times after the engine has been off a few hours of sitting in my garage, and then after a few minutes it goes away. The last time, I opened the fuel filler cap and the fan sound stopped immediately.
View 4 RepliesSo, last night I was driving with radio off and a "whirring/fan" sound was audible in the rear of my 2002 SC430 - a sound that I have never heard. The sound seemed to resonate from the driver side, access panel (which I believe holds fuses and other systems for roof). After the vehicle was stopped and restarted the sound continued. Now today, I insert the key into the ignition - no sound; turn to accessory - sound is audible; started vehicle and did not hear sound. Second time I repeated and sound was heard; started and did not hear sound, Third time I repeated and no sound heard in accessory start position. What the heck is this? Any diagram of the trunk and what components are housed in the center bay? Does this vehicle have any auto-leveling function that activates?

After opening the trunk next morning smell of gas in trunk and back seat of car
Left all car windows open 24 hours and trunk 6 hours,gas smell subsided 90%
While coming back from mall, while driving lowered both rear windows to maximum...as I was driving @ 50 MPH..Extremely annoying sound started coming from back windows area....it was unbearable annoying...so closed the windows and sound was gone.
Checked oil and it was full. What is this UFO sound with rear windows down.
Want to figure out if the 2015 has this feature where you hold the key fob down and the windows roll down. Can't seem to figure out if this feature exists.
View 14 Replies2007 GX470 120,000 miles. Great vehicle and no problems until now. Seems I have an intermittent engine whine/whirring/zinging sound. I say intermittent because sometimes it there and other times its gone. It is fairly loud. Almost like an extremely loud alternator whine, only this sound is coming from the area near the ac compressor. There is some plumbing which runs just along the left side of the compressor pump and when I grab those lines and the little aluminum cannister in that area, I can feel the vibration in that system, big time. No vibration from the compressor pump though. Not sure what those lines are, but whatever they connect to is probably the culprit.
Its odd because the noise comes and goes. It doesn't fade in/out. It's either full blast loud, or totally gone. Once it's gone, it doesn't come back for a few days. Then one morning i go out and start the truck, and there it is again! Usually lasts for about a day, then it goes away for a week or so. After a week goes by, there it is again! Really odd. I had my mechanic look at it, but it wasn't making any noise that day (as luck would have it). He told me it was an awesome vehicle. Of course I agreed, but that didn't diagnose the problem.
Whenever I turn the wheel there is a ticking that seems to be coming from the front wheels. You can only hear it with the windows down and going slower than 10 mph. The rate of ticks seem to speed up or slow down depending on how fast I am going around a corner. I don't have a lift at my disposal and don't particularly love going to the dealership.

2013 ES 300h, 25K Miles
I just bought a 2015 GS350 FSport in December 2014 and noticed an oily film on both front windows. This happens whenever I wash my car and wipe it down. I tried to wipe it w/ glass cleaners and detail spray but doesn't come off. It almost seems to be between the dual plain glass.
View 11 RepliesI just had my front passenger window replaced due to an attempted break in, and I noticed now that my window sounds very harsh rolling up and down versus my other three windows. The window goes up and down at the same speed as the other windows that wasn't touched, but now its just not as quiet as the others; which to me now is more of an annoying sound.

View 9 RepliesI have a 2014 Lexus ES300h. I just started noticing that after 2 to 4 hours after turning the car was turned off, I am finding what sounds like the electric motor running. There is a buzzing sound. I can turn the car back on for a few mins and then back off, the electric buzzing sound goes away.
Since owning the car, I've never found the car buzzing. It sounds like the electric motor is charging the batteries. Do I need to have this checked? I have 28k miles on my car and have never had an issue.
I have a 2013 ES 350. Last night about 5 hours after the engine had been turned off, we noticed a strange noise coming from under the rear of the car? It sounded like a small electric motor was running. I started the car and turned it off. The noise had quit. This is actually the second time this happened.
I got under the car to try and determine the exact location of the noise, It sounded to be coming from the gas tank area. Could it be a fuel pump kicking on?
