Lexus ES 2013+ :: Regular Battery Life Not Hybrid
Jul 7, 2015
Just bought a 2013 ES300H after ten Acura's. My car is two and a half years old and wondering how long does the original battery last. On Acura's it is about three years. There was no warning when they went.

My ES 300h is not going to be driven for about 2 months. Will it start right up after that time or will the batteries be dead? How long can it sit idle and still start up again?

Bought a 2013 Prius V with 3000 miles on it over 1 year. The car has only been driven 1000 miles in the last 7 months or so. I am worried this might not be a good thing for the battery(s)? Is there a Diagnostic test I could request that would determine strength of the batteries? Other hybrid parts?

Is it possible to do a long charge of the hybrid battery with a regular battery charger? If so how?

I have a 2013 F350 SRW diesel. What is the expected life of the original batteries?
In the owners manual, (page 319) there is a long process to "reprogram" the computer after a battery replacement. It does mention "E85" and similar gas phrases. The diesel has no such discussion.
Is this reprogram for gas engines only or do I need to do it on my diesel as well?

My 2008 Ford Escape is stuck at 5% Oil Life I have tried the reset procedure But when I press the 3 buttons Setup Info or Reset nothing changes It will not change screens When I start my car I see the KM (I'm from Canada) then within a couple of minutes it shows %5 Oil Life and no matter what I do it wont change or scroll to a different screen. When the door is ajar or tail gate open it shows but then will flash back to the 5% Oil Life

My 2013 BMW 328i has a fuel-saving feature (as perhaps many other new cars): As soon as you stop at a stop sign or red light, the engine turns itself off automatically, and once you release the brake pedal, it starts again. In a traffic or city driving where you may stop, say, 30 times, the starter works on average 30 times more than a regular car. Of course, the fuel economy may become significant; the car stops running idle for a total of 20+ minutes in each commute. I am concerned that the savings in fuel (and emission) would cost lower life of the starter than a car without this feature. What do you think of this feature?

I have a 35 mile (70 round trip) commute to work, all highway. I do some in town driving as well, but mainly the commuting. The price of gas is getting higher and I was thinking of getting a hybrid, but wonder if that is the best choice for my type of commute ? I drive a Honda CRV (04) which I love but maybe something smaller like a Civic would be better. I need room to occasionally put my 3 kids and hubby in and I want to feel safe in the snow.

I wonder if having solar panel roof will reduce the life of the battery?

What the expected life cycle is for the fold in/out feature of the power mirrors? I garage my truck and need to fold mirrors when backing in and then unfold once out of the garage--looking at 2 in/out cycles per trip from the house. How long until the motor gasps and dies?

I am a new Prius 2010 owner - One question - I read in the manual you should not carry your remote control near your cell phone since it could cause decrease battery life. Does it matter if cell phone is off? I always carried by Camry remote control in my purse with my off cell phone. Camry is 7 years old and battery still works.

I've been on a detailing spree lately, I'd love to get a sparkling clean engine bay but I'm worried about getting water into the high voltage bits. The ES300h has high voltage cables, motors and the inverter module on the right hand side.
So far I've used a damp cloth and dishwashing soap to wipe off surface dirt and oil. I'm not sure if using a low pressure hose is a good idea. To the hybrid owners out there, how do you keep your engine bay clean?

Does the 12v battery need to be changed on a regular schedule? There are many articles on "how to" but could find no info when it is needed.

I purchased a new 350ES in October 2013. A few months later when I went to start the car after having it sit in garage a day or two, it would not start. Called Lexis Roadside. They jumped it and all is well. I thought perhaps I had left the trunk or a door ajar. There was no evidence I had done so. The dealer gave a multitude of reasons this could have happened. I considered it a fluke and moved on.
Approximately a yr later, same thing. Dealer replaced battery and indicated they don't know why it failed again. About nine mos. later, August 2015, same thing! They again replaced battery but were admittedly very unsure the problem was solved.
Car performed fine since then but it was driven every day. Last week, it sat in my garage exactly 36 hrs. Would not start. Lexus Roadside guy said it has a bad cell. Keep in mind this battery is now about 10 months old!
It is at the Lexus dealer now. First (believe it or not) the service guy told me this is normal and I should get a trickler (sp?) and plug it in at night. What??? When I argued with him, he back pedaled and agreed to allow it to sit on their lot for a few days and see what happens when they try to start it.
The alarming thing is that they seem stymied as to what is causing this electrical failure or how to fix it.

I've noticed that my battery only charges to 6 out of the 8 bars and have never gotten it to go higher. How to get the battery to fully charge?

I went to start my GS in the garage this morning and nothing happened. I couldn't even open the trunk or turn on any interior lights. I checked the battery with a multi-meter and it shows 5.25V. So for whatever reason, the battery drained itself overnight. I'm positive no lights were left on or doors left open. So this is a total mystery to me.
What might have caused this? Also, how to open the trunk after the battery dies. The car has been great for the first 7k miles and problem free until now.
