Lexus ES 2013+ :: Noise Coming From Under Rear Of Car Like Small Electric Motor Running
Feb 17, 2014
I have a 2013 ES 350. Last night about 5 hours after the engine had been turned off, we noticed a strange noise coming from under the rear of the car? It sounded like a small electric motor was running. I started the car and turned it off. The noise had quit. This is actually the second time this happened.
I got under the car to try and determine the exact location of the noise, It sounded to be coming from the gas tank area. Could it be a fuel pump kicking on?

I went out to my garage a minute ago and heard my C making a weird noise. Like a small electric motor running. I finally pinpointed the sound to the bottom of the car back towards the fuel tank. At this point I thought my fuel pump was powered up because it sure did sound a little like that. I was saying to myself at that point that I am sure glad the car is still under warranty. So I went to get the SKS fob to start it up, hoping the sound would just go away. While sitting in the car prior to starting it, it occurred to me that maybe I should remove the fuel cap first. While opening it a slight "whoosh" occurred blowing fumes in my face when removing the cap and the farting promptly went away. The tank is down to two segments level wise, it is cooling down this time of the day, but I did get back from a long drive a few hours ago, so I can't see how the fuel or vapors were expanding enough to release through a pressure valve. So if you car is farting, remove the gas cap first before panicking.

I have a 2014 Lexus ES300h. I just started noticing that after 2 to 4 hours after turning the car was turned off, I am finding what sounds like the electric motor running. There is a buzzing sound. I can turn the car back on for a few mins and then back off, the electric buzzing sound goes away.
Since owning the car, I've never found the car buzzing. It sounds like the electric motor is charging the batteries. Do I need to have this checked? I have 28k miles on my car and have never had an issue.

I have this weird electric motor noise that comes from the rear a few seconds after I shut my car off (I don't have the leveling air suspension). I also hear it in the engine compartment on occasion when the engine is shut off (I've heard it hours after the car is off). It lasts for a couple of seconds and it's gone. I do have the car set on auto ebrake. That's the only thing I can think of causing the noise...like the cable loses tension and the motor tightens it, but I don't really know.

The last two mornings I have gone into my garage and have heard a faint "buzzing" noise that seems to be coming from the rear of 2013 RX350. Given the location of the noise, my first inclination was that it was possibly the fuel pump running a cycle for some reason. But when I heard it for the second day in a row, I figured it would be wise to ask if this is normal or something I should take up with the dealer?

I have an 03 Santa Fe, 2.7 l AWD. Recently I've begun to notice a whining almost electric motor like sound coming from the rear of the engine. It get more noticeable the longer the trip. The weird thing is that it seems to respond to throttle input more than speed. If I'm cruising at say 65 I can ease off the throttle, reapply the throttle enough to increase RPM but not speed and hear it. I've had the differential, brakes, bearings checked. My mechanic has had it in the air 4 times and has spent atleast 4 hours on two occasions trying to find it. He can hear it. My thoughts are that it could be the Fuel Pump, or the exhaust.

I have a 2009 Kia Sedona that is in great condition. I noticed an odd thing today. After shutting the car off and letting it sit for an hour or so, I came out to my garage and a heard a weird whirring noise. I couldn't place it at first, but I eventually realized it was coming from the Sedona. The best I am able to locate it is under the rear, near the back axle. It doesn't sound louder on either side of the vehicle.
The noise itself sounds like a small electric motor moving. Almost like in those old movies when a robot would move his arm. It happens anywhere between every 30 - 60 seconds, but not at regular intervals. Right before the noise happens there is a light click, which I'm assuming is a switch that's powering the thing opening.

I have a '12 F250 w/ 6.7 diesel. Lately when I turn off the ignition after a few seconds I hear a noise that sounds like a small electric pump coming from under the hood on the passenger side.
This also happened a while back but at the time the service people said they could not get it to do that and it eventually stopped.

I have a 2014 ES300H that I just purchased. After driving around for a while I parked it in the garage. After it had been sitting in the garage for around 6 hours, I hear a motor or fan type noise coming from the trunk area. It lasted for several minutes and then stopped. Is that normal and what the noise might be.

Last night when I went out into the garage, I heard the sound of a small, lower RPM electric motor. After walking around a bit, I found it coming from the underside of the back of the Camry. I got in and turned the key to the "on" position and it went away. The car had been parked for about 5-6 hours. I've never heard this noise before.

Started getting a noise a few minutes after startup. I can hear it click on and then it sounds like a loud electric motor/pump/fan type noise. Starts pretty loud, then gets quieter (but not gone) after 30 secs. If I turn off the engine, it stops and if I immediately restart, it's gone for a couple minutes.

2103 GS 350 F-SPORT ... I've only had my car for a month but I just noticed there is a small space between my rear wheels and the rotor hat. My front is not like this. I don't have an opportunity to take the wheels off and look.

I have a squeaking noise coming from my rear driver side tire. I changed my brake pads and one was missing. All it had on there is what looks like a shim. ( pics below )
After finishing the job I drove my car and the noise continues. It's mainly when I'm in reverse. Has any one else had this problem? My car is at 50k miles.

For the last few weeks, it has seemed that the battery gauge on my 2002 has been half full more often than it should. I admit that I have no good science for this determination, but about half the time when I return home from work the gauge shows half full, and it returns to full after about 1 - 2 miles of driving. The car has about 122K miles on it.
Today I took a long drive through some pretty steep terrain toward the New River Gorge in WVA. Round trip it was about 750 miles. On the way home, I got an error on the console. I'm not sure what it was, but on the main display there were three boxes with writing. I didn't read them as I was pulling off to the shoulder. By the time I got there, the warning was gone. I turned the car off and restarted it. Everything looked good and I headed the remaining 10 miles home.
Once home, when I turned the car off, I heard a vibrating noise from (I think) the left side of the hood for about 5 - 10 seconds. I turned the car on again, and there is a vibrating sound, and the same turnoff problem.
Is this the final death knell of my traction battery? I have a 120K servicing due about now. I have been planning a reinvolt battery, but it is a bit of a drive away. Should I consider trailering the car down?

I have a 2000 F-350 diesel and the electric vacuum pump went out. I bought a new one from napa and it would not stop pumping. Checked for leaks and found none. If I unplug the hose from the vacuum can the next day, you can hear it suck air so it seems I am holding vacuum. Problem is I burnt out the new pump in two weeks from running all the time. Bought another one and same problem.
So now I plug the electrical in and let it build up vacuum for a couple of minutes and then disconnect it so it won't burn out and I am good for days on vent controls and 4x4. If there has been a bad batch of pumps out there? I also unplugged the hose from the pump to the holding tank and put my finger over where the pump sucks and it still did not shut off.

So we are taking a short trip and my dad decides he would like to drive my new passat. That means I get kicked to the back seat as my wife will not give up her heated seat. We are on the highway now and I noticed for the first time some very annoying wind noise coming from the rear headliner between the door and the small window. It almost sounds as if the widow is opened a crack but I checked.

My 2009 LS 600h:
I park the car, i turn it off, the steering wheel goes to park position. Then, when i open the door i hear a sound like a electric motor.
My GS 450h did exactly the same. Auto handbrake on or off makes no difference.

We've owned our 07 since purchased new in 06. It's always made this noise, but it used to be for a short period of time (1-2 min). Now it goes on and on for 5-10 min. It sounds like it's getting "stuck" and starting the cycle over.

A quick question, currently an observation.. but a concern. we purchased our 2012v used at 55k miles.. She's running great, MPG's are above rated expectations. (ave 47.2 so far) We are currently @ ~59400 miles.. So, all seems OK w/the exception of this strange noise.. I'm familiar with the typical prox pulse sound at low EV speeds.. and this noise is not that one.

Just walked by the back end of my new Prius III and heard what sounded like a electric motor running from the general area of the exhaust pipe at the right rear end of the car. This was about 5 hours after I last drove it.

About 2 months ago,we noticed a slight noise when first starting the truck in the mornings. The noise was so faint,I could never tell where it was coming from. The noise went away when vehicle warmed. This morning,I drove it for the first time in a while, and its pretty loud now. Its definitely coming from the front of the motor somewhere.I am thinking it sounds like bearings starting to go bad. When looking at the fan spinning from the side of the truck,it does not spin true, there is a very slight wobble. With the motor off and grabbing the fan in the middle, with force,I can very slightly wiggle it back and forth. I should NOT be able to do that, correct?
By the way, truck has 142,000 miles on it and the water pump and timing chain were changed at 117,000 miles.
