With the colder weather in the NE, I am experiencing lower mpg with the ES 300h. We have had several cold days here, and my mpg seems to be going down. My driving habits have not changed.

View 3 RepliesThe humidity has an affect on my MPG. I noticed that my MPG went from 49 - 52 MPG down to 44 - 46 MPG when the heat & humidity started here in June. Yesterday a cold front came through and the humidity dropped. I filled my tank up and noticed my MPG is back up to 49 MPG, so the only thing that is different is the humidity. The cold & humidity does affect the MPG (approx 4 - 6 MPG).

View 17 RepliesToday, I experienced the coldest temperatures yet on my drive to work. At one point, I saw a '24F' shown as the outside temperature (although not unusual for April in Minnesota):
Expected: My gas mileage was down a bit. I was impressed it wasn't as bad as I would have expected from our 2005 Prius, though.
I should have expected: On the last 1/2 mile or so, when driving slow on the little bit of EV left while in the forced HV mode, I accidentally accelerated too much and forced on the ICE again (it had been previously on earlier in my 22 mile commute). This time, however, it was different because it didn't shut off immediately. I think the ICE had to do a second warm up. I'll have to watch that more closely next time (darn that cold weather)!
I've had so many issues with audio dropping out from phone calls and streaming that I've almost thrown my phone at the NAV screen in frustration.
Background: In the 7 months since I bought my car new (2013 GS F-Sport) I have had 2 Droid Maxx's, 1 Droid Turbo and am currently on a Samsung Note 4. I've gone through hard resets of my phones, deleting the phone from the car, changing apps in use, trying to use the car with after a reset and removing most stock apps. I've also mostly disabled the text message and email options as it doesn't work consistently, and I don't need people in my car to see when I get texts.
Each of the phones has has issues staying connected to the car. About 30 seconds after dropping the car will register the loss of the bluetooth connection. The worst part is I can go hours without a problem, then I'll get 1, or I'll get a problem every 4 minutes until it suddenly stops.
I've called Lexus a three times are had a few different answers. At first they told me to always drive with the wifi disabled and that should fix my problem. Then they said to have the dealership check my firmware. The dealership said my firmware dated 2012 is the most up to date (sounds like a load of BS to me). Most recently, they said there is an error in Android 4.2's kernel that screws up bluetooth. Now all of my phones have been on Android 4.4.x since I bought the car, and Lexus said they aren't aware of any issues with 4.3 or 4.4.
My coworker follows the same phone upgrade path as me (Maxx, Turbo and Note4), and he has never had a dropout issue on his 2014 X5, so the kernel issue doesn't seem to hold water.
Lexus made it sound like this is a WIDE spread problem, but not one they need to fix. Also what firmware version are you running in your 2013 GS?

In very cold weather, we're talking around -15c (5f) or colder the car has serious trouble going into first gear or any gear.
The car starts fine, we even have let it warm up so the engine temp is fully warmed up.
As soon as we put the car into first and release the clutch, the car immediately stalls. It's also difficult to get into first gear, as it's locked out and takes repeated attempts to get into first, just to have it stall when the clutch is released.
I just bought a 2010 salvage Prius. I have another 2010 I have been driving for 3 years so I am pretty used to the mileage I can expect under different conditions.
When the car is totally warm and I measure the mileage for 15 miles or so I get normal readings of mpg. But with a lot of 2-3 mile trips during the week I am getting about 10mpg less than usual compared to my other 2010.
I have noticed over the past few months that my gas mileage is dropping (from about 29 to 24) on the highway and I seem to have lost some power. I know the car is getting older, but where do you think I can get some of it back? The plugs are only 20K old and the air filter is new.
It is a 2004 1.8t with 109k on it.
I have a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe 2WD with the 5.3L V8. Tahoe has 134K. At about 125K miles, I replaced air filter with a K&N, new OEM spark plugs and spark plug wires. The Tahoe has been running great and was getting normal mpg until recently. 15mpg in town and 17mpg on the road is what I normally get. The last 3 fill ups my mpg has been below 13.5mpg. Car still runs great but at 13mpg it's starting to hurt a little financially. Weather here in NC has been normal, my driving conditions or habits have not changed, etc. What could be causing my mpg to drop by so much while the suv still rides smooth and straight?
View 4 RepliesI just had 10,000 mile service performed on my 2014 ES300H. I mentioned to the service manager that my mileage has come down to 36-38 mpg from 39-41 earlier. He advised me not to rely on the car display reading but do it manually for more accuracy. He said that many owners have found that they get better mileage than shown by the display.
View 5 RepliesGas mileage as stated by Suburu for the 2015 Outback (2.5 engine) is 25-33 with a combined of 28. Mine has never attained that and it has been steadily dropping. Now it is displays as 19 mpg. It is new and has just under 500 miles on it, and I read that the break-in is 1000 miles. That being said, shouldn't I be seeing better MPG than that?
BTW - I am hoping that I am just not being fair (to the car and to Suburu) and that I'll be up in the advertised MPG's soon after I hit 1000 miles.
So in one of the owner's manuals, Lexus states that use of EV mode does NOT increase overall mileage. I was surprised by that. If this is the case why have it? I have been using EV mode after I get off the freeway and drive a couple of miles through our subdivision. I deplete the battery almost completely (2 bars) but make it into the garage. Will this damage the traction battery and should this not improve the mileage. The engine runs in the morning anyway to warm up and the battery charges up then. I am just wondering how others use the EV mode.

View 7 RepliesIts not super cold but in Tampa ever since I installed my headers and its 60 or below i've gotten the VSC and ABS lights on in the dash after driving a little bit. Typically this is a cold morning type thing.
I reset the lights and it went away for a few days (it also got 30 degrees warmer) once it got down to 55 the lights came back on. Parked the car went in to work and when I drove home the lights were off (without re-setting the lights).
I know the codes can mean different things. The car is driving the same as always too- I have PPE headers, Ingen Intake, and a muffler delete.
My wife has a 2010 RX-350 which had to have the transmission replaced a few weeks ago. She has run into an issue when it's cold that the car seems to be stuck in neutral as she applies the gas and it just creeps. This most recent time, the "Check Engine" light came on the message "Check AWD" on the dash. Lexus says they can't find anything wrong except slightly low Transmission Fluid.
View 4 RepliesI drove my car downtown this morning. It was 7 degrees outside! - The windshield/dash rattle is no longer a rattle noise. It sounds like two Styrofoam boxes that are next to each other making a loud rubbing/creaking noise. I can hear it over the radio! I don't even have to go over a bump! Just turning in a curve in the road where the car leans slightly will produce this noise.
This problem is so un-Lexus like that I cannot believe it! - We are not talking new technology here folks! Cars have had Windshields and Dashes for over 80 years. Lexus had this problem solved when they released their first car! I have never owned a car that has done this. I am betting even a Yugo would not have this problem!
My car is going to the dealer on Monday to fix this problem. Luckily my dealer has said they have fixed this problem before and have never had it re-occur. We'll see about that! This is the only thing that is wrong with my GS350 in over a year of ownership. What I cannot believe is that Lexus knew about this problem in 2006 vehicles and it is still there in 2007! This is not rocket science! I will be very interested in hearing if this problem is truly corrected in the 2008 models!
My car usually is park in the garage. I was out of town this weekend and parked outside in 30 degrees weather, then my ML system's HDD won't start up. No GPS, no HDD audio and no voice command? It work again this morning after it sat in the garage overnight. I think this happened before last year also. Can I get the dealer to replace the HDD with my platinum extended warranty?
View 8 RepliesI am aware that cold weather will decrease your tire pressure, but what is throwing me off is how quickly my rear tires seems to be losing pressure?
I park outside overnight, and it gets down to about 25 degrees F here at night. My front tires I run at about 38-40 PSI, and I JUST filled the rears up on Saturday to the same. I start my car this morning and both my rear tires are sitting at 30 PSI. This has happened ever since the dealer took my my wheels to refinish the rims about a month ago. Is there something they could have done that would be causing this? The can't think of a reason as to why the front tires are fine and the rear keep loosing pressure.
My 2007 ES UL has started to peel at the edge of the glass of the rear roof panel. It was originally just at the rear corner and I assumed it must have been scratched and the due to dryness started to peel. Then I noticed it at the other rear corner. I asked them to look at it at the dealer and the service advisor told me it was from the UV rays which dried it out, and not to worry about it. I bought and applied einszett gummi pflege stift to those corners and all seemed well.
Now that it got colder here in NY the corners again began to pop up but today I see it's started to pop out very much in the middle of the panel which seemed fine before!! The SA had told me that this (gasket, molding) comes attached to the roof and to fix it I'd have to replace the panel! I'm scared my UL is sick of the panoramic roof just for show and wants to be able to open.
