I'm a new Lexus owner and bought a new 2013 ES300h a month ago. I've noticing that when I start the car everyday, it shakes a little bit (along the body direction) when the engine suddenly starts. You could hear the engine sound clearly as well.
View 9 RepliesDriving down the road today and all of a sudden the car loses power, starts vibrating and the Check VSC and Check Engine lights came on. I pulled off the highway and got the car stopped and engine shut off. I let it sit for about 5 minutes and started it up and all warning lights went off and I was able to drive the car home with no adverse effects. Seems to be running normal now. Searched the archives and saw numerous posts about a loose gas cap, but this was something far more serious.

The check engine light starts flashing and the car looses all power, no acceleration. I pull over, shut her off wait a few mins and same thing.
View 10 RepliesI picked up a 2013 ES300h last weekend, love the car so far but have a few questions. If its cold in the morning (~50F) the car shakes for a few miles then goes away, I'm thinking its the tranny. I have the same thing happen with my 2014 Highlander (different transmission though).
I'm used to the VW and BMW forums where there are a lot of DIYs to add options that didn't originally come with the car. Is it possible to add the rear automatic sunshade, swap in a radio from a 14/15/16 ES, add ML sound system?
I have a 2013 Golf TDI with 2070 miles on it. For around 2-3 weeks, I've noticed that it intermittently will idle rough, shakes, etc, as if it is about to stall out, but stays running and drives normal. I figured it was a typical Diesel thing and wasn't too worried about it. However, today, this happened, and I got an engine light. Yikes! I made an appointment for it but need to wait till after the 4th for it to be looked at. What's up here? Is it a regen cycle? Timing issues? Am I doomed with my Golf TDI?
View 8 RepliesFor 2015 we had the ability to use our key fob to start our cars. I did this nearly everyday, doing the 1 press pause 2 press pause 3 press and hold.. this used to work, suddenly it no longer works.
Since this featured was not even featured in our manuals, I doubt I'd find a solution there. Did Lexus zap my car and ability to start it, remote app from phone works fine.
Haven't driven the 2013 ES 350 very much yet but my Nav map has suddenly turned to black and white instead of the initial multiple colors, even during the day. What happened ... can't seem to find on the system how to revert back without going thru 900+ page book. Also, the map is showing some roads/hwys. with tiny circles (attached to each other) instead of the previous thick lines?
Radio, don't have the XM service but when listening to std. issue radio, sometimes and lasting maybe for 8-10 seconds or so, the radio suddenly sounds very "echoey" and more emphasized, it seems, from the back speakers. Then it reverts back to "normal" - only to do it again within the same 20 min. drive-time.
Just had my 2015 ES350 for a week. Today when I was driving on the highway, all the sudden the audio display screen (no navigation) was turned off by itself, but I still hear the sounds from the speakers. all the buttons were not working. after few minutes, the display system seems reboot itself, then it was frozen at start screen with only shows the Lexus logo on it. until I pulled over and restarted the car, it was back to normal.
View 5 RepliesGetting a sour, moldy, or musty smell when the car starts and the air is pushed out the front vents. I know its getting hot and humid here in midwest but kind of started before and smell got gradually worst with humidity. It goes away in like 15 seconds but its a pain to have a new/used care and it smell like a 16 year boy when you start up. Though the AC filter might be moldy or has some funk on it.

So I have to re-start it every time I get in? Whats the point? I can maybe see the heater for winter or ac for summer but my car is garaged.
I own 2013 Mk6 GTI. I am having to over crank the engine for a period of 8 seconds or so before the car starts, especially after it has been sitting for a few hours. My thought was a faulty check valve in the fuel pump. I have heard that our fuel filter has a built in pressure regulator that may get stuck open for whatever reason and that may also cause a long crank time.
View 9 RepliesI love my Prius c!! I have around 2200 miles on it and I work a combination second and third shift. The car sets all day. The first time that it happened I didn't think anything about it, but it has since happened two other times now. The bad part about it is I get off work at 2 am and the Toyota dealer is not open. The check engine light does not come on and I have had it at the dealer for the past week and they could not duplicate the problem.
It's not water in the gas. I bought it brand new so it is covered under warranty. I feel for the dealership because the check engine light doesn't come on so they have nothing to go by. This problem occurs when it gets down in the low 30's to mid 20's. I use Shell gasoline 87 octane.
2002 VW Passat 1.8T ... Ever since I got a new MAF sensor installed in my car, I've been having difficulties starting up the car. When I turn the key in the ignition it starts up very weak as if its going to shut off again. After a few seconds its ok but it worries me because when I turn it on at first it shakes a bit and starts up as if its going to shut off.
I began to notice when it wasn't driven for long periods of time (hours) it started up with a lil weakness but not as severe when started up while driving short periods(minutes) Also with the short periods the car has actually shut off a couple of times. It begins to start up very weak and shaky and then just shuts off. Once I get moving the car is Ok its just as its starting up.
Oh yeah I forgot, the gas mileage is horrible! I am at half a tank and I've driven 100 miles. Sounds fishy to me.
Recently, after exiting the freeway, may car ( lexus 1995 SC400) suddenly stalls. After a moment of panic, i placed the emergency blinkers on,. coasted to a stop, and re started the engine. It started right away and I continued driving home. The engine sounded perfectly fine, no hesitation, no roughness. After a few days it happened again....again after exiting the freeway and slowing down for city traffic. The Garage that serviced my car for many years has checked the electrical system, replaced the spark plug wire set, cleaned " throttle body". These seemed to fix the problem. The car was fine for 6 months and then it happened again last week.

However, last night, I had just left my driveway and was proceeding at about 30 mph when I was forced to brake suddenly but not enough to come to a complete stop. View 8 RepliesFor the past week, my wife's 2004 GX A/C has been blowing hot air off and on. At first I thought this was due to low refrigerant but after pressure testing it appears to be full. Yesterday afternoon I was driving the car home and the A/C was blowing cool air then suddenly stopped again, I happened to look at the engine temperature gauge and noticed it creeping to "H". I shut down the air all together, pulled over and it cooled. The gauge actually stayed below the half way point the rest of the way home, until I had to stop at a light, then it slowly climbed up to the "H" again, the lowered as I drove to a cruising speed 55MPH. One home, I looked at the coolant reservoir and there was no fluid in it (not sure if this is normal) and there was no sign of smoke or fluid leaking. Could this be a thermostat issue, radiator issue, loss coolant issue???

I watched live Data and it carries on when the VVT solenoids become active (above 800 rpm).There duty cycle goes to 60-70 percent while revving. I think it Is just one side of the engine. Could be VVT solenoids sticking on? yes ? No?
View 3 RepliesThis morning I was driving my 2000 Ford Taurus to work at about 45mph when it suddenly starts to slow down as I was pressing on the gas pedal. I pumped the gas pedal as it was slowing but still nothing. I pulled to the side of the road just as it was coming to a stop. I turned the car on (everything seemed fine) and all the lights came on and the engine started. I was in park with the car on and pressed the gas but the engine didn't rev. I turned the car on twice over the next twenty minutes or so as I waited for the tow truck.
About a half hour into this ordeal I turned the car on again and tried pressing the gas and this time the engine revved so I put the car in drive and drove it around the block. I eventually canceled the tow and drove the car home and to school (about six miles total or so, at speeds under 45mph). I recently filled up the tank and had car problems last week (the car now has a new battery and alternator) but up until this morning there was no issue. What it could be? The shop said it would be hard to diagnose unless they could recreate the issue...
Problem with my GS450h 2008 70000km. Some time (in winter time) at morning, when I am trying to switch on my gs450h, I press ON button, then i see READY sign and engine starts for 1-1,5 sec then immediately engine goes off and no READY sign. After restart (switch ON again) i have normal start. Sometimes is see CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM after such situation. Diagnostics show P0617 error. sometimes i have C1242 error and CHECK ABS sign.
View 1 RepliesPast couple days my car has acted strange. Driving last night the check engine starts to flash. Car running smooth. I pull over and restart the car and all is fine. This morning while driving on expressway the slip light flashed 3-4 times and quit. This was on dry surface they car was definitely not losing traction.
Also it'll randomly flash message low key fob which it may be low but it only says it randomly like maybe 1X a month. I know this car is an electronic beast. Do you think my car battery is not supplying enough volts and causing these weird issues?
