So I am a hearing a whining noise in the rear end area sounds like its coming from passenger rear wheel well. It sometimes happens when driving forward. What it could possibly be ?
View 2 RepliesI had my window down as I was backing the car into the garage today and heard a metallic clicking noise from the rear as I tapped on the brakes. The noise only happens when I am in reverse. When I put it in drive and move forward there is no clicking noise. As an AZ resident its rare for us to have the windows down so to be honest I cant really say how long this has been going on for. My car was just in for service for oil , tire balance, and alignment this saturday
View 7 RepliesMy rear brake makes a whining noise when I go on reverse. I know is brake related because while on reverse, if I barely touch the brake pedal the noise goes away. But without touching the brake pedal whines and sometimes loud and is embarrassing.
View 5 RepliesApril 2015 I purchased a 2013 CPO LS 460 with 7,700 miles. Immediately, I noticed the wind noise from all 4 doors. Dealer said nothing can be done.
Then we started hearing a whining noise from the transmission at low speeds. Dealer checked it out and determined it's the Transmission Pump and there is no fix for it. Filed a complaint with Lexus and was told they are aware of the problem but since it does not pose a safety or mechanical concern, they do not have a replacement part in the works.
Recently purchased a LS-460(CPO). The vehicle has 36,000 miles logged. I've had a few issues in the first few months:
1) Whining noise coming from the right front wheel assembly..front rt bearing worn.
2) Replaced homelink system..would not program.
3) Glove box had to be replaced due to not closing properly(adjustment not possible)
4) Plastic coating on all 4 locking lugnuts was chipping and rusting. I'm not trying to be a troll here..however, just not what I expected from Lexus. I really enjoy driving the vehicle..I'm just not sure I want to own it outside of a warranty.
Is there a way to take the rear view camera input and add a DVD player and " trick" the screen to think it's in reverse so I can play a DVD on a no ml system .? But I can up on a great black on black 08 with low miles and decided to get it and try to figure out a way to do this later.
View 2 RepliesThe other day I had my windows open while backing up and noticed that the brakes make a clicking noise when I initially apply them while in reverse.
This happens every time I'm in reverse and I apply the brakes.
The clicking is only when I first step on the brake, but it happens every time I first step on the brake in reverse.
Maybe this is unique to the LS600hL (2008)? Are brakes on my LS different from brakes on LS460 / LS460L?
When I reverse out of my driveway, my car makes a noise. It only happens when it is in reverse and sounds like something may be rubbing against each other. It's not a high pitched squeaking noise but more so just vibrations and a light rubbing noise.

Should I add the gear oil additive to the rear end or change the rear end oil and add that? I am looking to sell the truck so what could cause this noise?
View 1 RepliesI got a 2006 3.3l v6 sonata and for the past 6 month I have no had reverse which sucks let me tell you but I've looked into my codes it's throwing out. Anyway when I throw it in reverse it doesn't lock on it just spins making a kind of whining sound,
And when I'm driving it I take my foot off the gas or I slowly push the break it will jump down to third gear and get stuck I'll be doing 40mph at 4K RPMs, what this could be or what I should do?
I have an 08 LS base model, and recently while driving I'll hear a knocking noise coming from the rear suspension. This is every time I'll go I'll go over a bump. The knock is the same as when I had my 03 Acura TL .
View 6 RepliesJust today I started hearing a whining noise from the rear that came and went. I wouldn't be worried but it was so loud that the radio could not drowned it out anymore. The noise when away when I gave the car some throttle so I am thinking its the rear diff. It was pouring down rain and I wonder if there was some part of that that could have had an affect.
View 24 RepliesI have this weird electric motor noise that comes from the rear a few seconds after I shut my car off (I don't have the leveling air suspension). I also hear it in the engine compartment on occasion when the engine is shut off (I've heard it hours after the car is off). It lasts for a couple of seconds and it's gone. I do have the car set on auto ebrake. That's the only thing I can think of causing the noise...like the cable loses tension and the motor tightens it, but I don't really know.
View 14 RepliesI have some FAINT clicking noise at the rear of the 08 LS460 and I'm thinking it's rear bearing going out..but not sure...what exactly does bearing failure sounds like? I hear this SOFT clicking noise from (more likely) the right rear. The noise is very faint and I have to roll down the window to actually hear it.
If I move through the neighborhood at about 15-20 mph, I hear this clicking faint clicking sounds..and if I speed up a little, the clicking noise increases (in frequency, not loudness). When I go faster like on freeway or normal road, I can't hear it anymore. Probably clicking too fast or not as loud at that speed. With windows up, I can't hear it at all.
Is this has to do with rear bearing going out on me or possibly something else? Any recommendation where I can start looking at? Is it brake pads? The car is 35K miles but since it's 08, unfortunately it's out of basic warranty (time). Is this covered under powertrain?
Purchased a 2010 AWD Highlander, There is a whining noise coming from the rear end, possibly the differential. Is this normal in all Highlanders?

View 10 RepliesIt happens when I accelerate from 10MPH up to about 70MPH and then is intermittent at higher speeds. The volume and pitch of the whine is constant the whole time I am accelerating. If I brake while accelerating the noise does not change. It is a very high pitched noise almost to the point of being out of range for the ear to hear. The noise is so high pitched that it is hard to determine exactly where it is coming from except I fell like it is behind me. Cornering doesn’t seem to make a difference. I hear it most when I start my commute getting onto the freeway, I have also heard it when I do stop and go while running errands.
