Lexus ES 2007-12 :: Warning Messages On EX350 When Starting Engine Up
Aug 27, 2008
At the time of starting the engine up, there is a warning "OIL MAINT. REQD SOON" but it goes away after when the motor is running. How to turn it off?

View 6 RepliesI put a new battery in my 2007 LS460 and it lit up all kinds of vsc, brake, abs, pcs, stop the vehicle immediately, etc. A 30 minute freeway trip, then 1 hr turned off has not changed anything.
Background: no warnings before the dead battery, but the rear window would reverse when it got part way. I was monkeying with it, and found the weather seal crimped right there. I left the ignition on by mistake. 8 hours later, the 1 year old battery was dead. I hooked up a good charger and it nearly cranked 20 minutes later with the charger connected so I left it until the charger said it was done and unhooked it. There were no dash lights and my voltmeter read something like 3 volts.
I pulled it out and replaced it, which cranked right up and runs great, but has all these errors. I'm having trouble walking right now, but when I get a chance, I'll check the voltage on the new battery in case the car isn't charging, but I would have expected the two long drives yesterday to kill the battery again if it wasn't. I also have a ScanGaugeE which I may use to read and reset the codes.
Requiring that the brake pedal be depressed in order to start the engine can be a nuisance, say if the driver is out of the vehicle and the passenger wants to start the engine to run the A/C, etc.
There is a workaround though. Press the engine start switch once to go into ACC mode, then press and hold it for 15 seconds and the engine will start without the brake pedal having to be pressed.
I have 2008 LS 460 and replace engine oil warning light comes on every 3,000 miles. I plan on changing oil every 5,000 miles. How can I change warning to coincide? What are thoughts on changing every 7,500 if no pulling or hills? I am using synthetic Royal Purple. Is it worth the cost?
View 1 RepliesI was on my way to TN for vacation. Car 2008 ES 350 with 49,000 miles had just been to dealer for new battery 1 week before. Driving on I95 and check engine light and 2 other lights came on and smoke came out of hood but temp gage stayed at C even though car was overheating.
Got off hwy and discovered there was no coolant. Bought correct coolant and put it in. Got back on hwy and car started to smoke so pulled off and fortunately car died at end of ramp rather than in the middle of interstate. Had to be towed 50 miles to Lexus dealer who told me that water pump failed and heat destroyed engine. I'm away from home in shock without a car. How a 2008 with only 49,000 miles impeccably maintained could all of a sudden overheat without warning.
So a friend of mine recently leased a 2016 Fiat 500x and they're experiencing a problem where about once a week, they'll get a string of like 10 warning messages all in a row on the dashboard. The say something is wrong with the airbag, the power train, the electric parking brake, and too many other things to recall offhand. The thing is, nothing is actually wrong. The car works fine aside from those error messages coming up.
My friend took it into the local fiat dealership to get it looked it and they were able to pull the records of all those warning messages from the computer. They kept the car for 5 days before finally getting it back to her, but a week later she started getting the messages again. They only come up about once a week.
My wife drives a 2000 passat wagon that's had wacky electrical problems since birth...most common are warning messages for no (apparent) reason -- check engine, brakes, oil, etc...
This morning the car wouldn't start...got it going with a jump and drove it a while to recharge, but when I turned it off, the radio stayed on, as did a fan under the hood and probably other stuff I didn't notice ... I assume this is what caused the battery to die in the first place... I've disconnected it for now but can't keep doing that forever ...
I've seen a lot of Passat electrical problems, I'm guessing alternator, but don't know much about cars.
I'm a Santa Fe owner since I bought a 2007 2.2CRDI 4 wheel drive model in 2008. It's been a great machine with over 340000 Km on the clock.
This motor has caused no problems until now, and oil & filter changed as specified. This motor had never needed engine oil top-ups until recently, and my tale of woe started about two weeks ago when I got a "sump level low" light when stopped on a steeply inclined drive. I stopped the engine and rolled back to flat ground where the light disappeared on re-start. I duly topped up the engine oil, and it took about two litres to bring it up midway on the dipstick.
All seemed ok until about a week later I spotted a longer than usual shut-off of the oil pressure warning light, and over a period of three maybe five startups from cold it has gone from a delay of two seconds to five, even six. The oil in use is a 10/40, so clearly that will suit cold starts best. Once the light has gone out it stays out, even after a long drive though a short stop/start will show a delay of up to a second before the light goes out. The engine still sounds smooth with no rattles that might associate oil starvation.
My mechanic thinks it may be the oil strainer in the sump, or worst case scenario the oil pump. There has been a whining noise from the engine for some time which raises with the engine rev's, and this seems (according to some blogs) maybe to be associated with oil pump wearing out?
I have a 2006 RX400h. On 3 occasions I've been stranded. The car won't start and I get an error/message Shift to P when Starting. However I am in Park. It's coupled with a Check VSC System warning. Service department says I have just drained the accessory battery, however nothing is being used other than standard equip such as lights, dash etc. I've had all batteries changed in the car over the 4 years I've owned it. Is this usual?

I am having a noise kind a grrrrrrrrrrr, when I start the car. It sounds for one second only, right when it starts or as soon it starts it does go off. and then it sounds normal.
It is a very loud sound that you can here together with starting sound. somebody told me that it is a weak battery symptom, is it true?
I didn't even know it could do this until i read somewhere that it has this capability. How do i get my text messages to pop up on my nav screen? (2015 IS 350 F Sport)
View 14 RepliesI have a 2006 GS 430. I have been receiving these to messages off and on for about week. Just took it to shop and they informed me I needed a speed sensor (front right wheel) and a ABS Actuator.
View 2 RepliesWhen I start up my LS460, i hear some rattling noise comming from the engine..sounds like rocks/sand? im not sure but it only happens when i start up the car..after that..the car is completely quiet and drives perfectly fine...

Until just about a week ago, my texts were delivered flawlessly to my Nav unit (no new software updates to car or phone). Now, nothing! My wife drives a Lexus SUV and uses an iphone 6 and the same thing has been happening to her, for roughly the same period of time.
What are the setting to enable text message push notifications? I switched to a new phone and lost the feature.
View 3 RepliesI have a droid 4, and just got a RX350. The phone and contacts paired perfectly but the text messages don't come through.
View 11 RepliesBoth the wife and I have the iPhone. Series 5. Both paired ez to the Lexus. I wanted to check out how messaging worked..so I message her while on her way to work. She said the music quit playing but didn't notice anything on the screen. Is there a setting I have to change/activate to have the message show on screen?
View 14 RepliesI had an android phone prior and everything worked great. Got calls, texts, and music streaming all working all the time.
Then I swapped over to an iPhone 6 and I can no longer see incoming text messages. I'll hear the alert through my car speakers but nothing comes up on the navi screen. I Googled and people said you have to unsync it, then resync it a few times to get it to work. But I haven't been successful.
With my old iPhone 5S, incoming messages displayed when phone was connected in the car. Now with my iPhone 6S messages no longer display. I can't even find it in the phone settings anymore.
View 10 RepliesThe start up messages take way too long to clear, during which time they obscure the top section of the backup camera? I first get "phone connection successful..." followed by "transfer complete". Between the two messages, the top 15-20% of the backup camera screen is obscured. And it's really that top sliver of the screen that allows you to see more than 4 feet behind the car. I suppose I should just be more patient, but 10 seconds (I've timed it) is an eternity to wait after starting the car before you can start backing out.
So I just back out as if I don't have a camera using my mirrors and looking over my shoulder (which I did for my previous 30 years of driving before getting my GS so I guess it's not THAT big of a deal). I just find it really annoying to put a backup camera in the car and then obscure it with messages. It's interesting that Lexus feels it's important to tell me that my phone has been connected for a full 10 seconds. It would be more interesting to know if I was about to back up into something.
I have text message alert set up, so when they come in it pops up on screen and I can read it or have it read to me...... But after reading is there a way to delete messages from the Info system ?
