I got this car in december 2014 and yes, there was this well known piston slap noise on cold mornings.
The dealer where the car has been maintained did an oil change at 54 400 miles and they added bulk oil 0W-20. I think that's a pretty thin oil for this engine, also the manual recommends 5w30.
So I bought a box of Amsoil 5w-30 Signature Series, the OEM filter and did an oil change.I could immediately tell the difference, the piston slap started to fade and the MPG went up. They say that this oil will improve the fuel consumption, and that's true.
But the most important thing is that piston slap noise started to fade immediately and now after 2500 miles there's around 10% of the piston slap noise. The engine is smooth as silk and I'm really happy with the result.

I just turned 210,000 miles on my 2003 Silverado, and I have started to notice what sounds like piston slap when at warm idle. When I start the truck in the morning, it sounds fine. But once the engine warms up, then I hear the noise. I'll rev the engine up to 2000-3000 rpms for a couple seconds, then let it idle, and the noise is gone. But 10-20 seconds later, it slowly comes back. I do not hear the noise at all when driving the truck. I tried SeaFoaming the engine through the throttle body and the brake booster vacuum line thinking it was carbon build up, but this did not fix the issue. However I may have eradicated the entire mosquito population!!
I've read that piston slap on these trucks only happens during a cold start. This is not the case with my truck. But am I still hearing piston slap.

A friend from work is having what he says is piston slap, but only under a load. I feel it could be the timing set since it's never been changed and at least 160k miles. Odometer quit working at least 5 years ago. Other than that, motor runs great. 1997 F150 4.6....

Just purchased 2015 Camry LE. While taking delivery, I noticed a subtle piston slap that started shortly after the engine started and completely went away after driving the car for about 10 minutes. Most people would not consider it an issue, but I am an engineer working with large industrial engines all the time so it was a concern. I asked to drive another Camry on the lot and it had the same issue. The service manager came out and said that this slap is normal and all 2012 - 2015 Camry with 2AR-FE engine do this. I bought the car anyway since I loved the overall design, ride quality and the features, but the piston slap keeps bothering me.
2012-2015 Camry equipped with 2AR-FE 2.5L engine? In order to check you have to start the cold engine and wait for the RPMs to drop to around 900 which will take 1-2 min. Put your ear in front of the radiator and listed to the subtle metallic tapping noise of the pistons rocking and slapping the bore walls. The noise will last for about 10 minutes until the pistons expand and close the excess gap between them and the bore.

My 2005 with 160k miles has engine noise when cold.
I talked to a couple specialists who said it could be valve noise another said valve noise would not abate when the engine warmed up. He suspected piston slap. A valve adjustment is pricey and the local independents are afraid to touch it given the complexity and needed shim packs. If it is piston slap I would be disappointed after spending a pile of dough to still have the same noise.
Have I missed a possible cause?

I have a loud noise coming from the passenger side of the engine, on my 2014 Santa Fe Sport 2,4 with less than 6000 km L. My buddy said it was a lifter. Last night, my brother-in- law, a qualified mechanic, who is the fixed operations manager at a Hyundai dealership said it is ''piston slap'' and that they had already changed two engines this year for this.
I had the mechanic listen to the noise 2 weeks ago when in for my first oil change but Blondie said it was the fuel injection system...

A Subaru '09 with 60.000 miles has a damaged piston. The mechanic first said that I need to get a new engine for 5 grand. Now he is looking for other optionsThis car can be sold -in good condition- for about 12.000 but without the engine is worth 4-5.000 should I put a new engine to a 4 year old car? Why can't I change the piston and fix whatever other damage it might have?

I just wanted to go to the store but the car won't does anything. not quite sure how to describe it but when i insert key and press it will not start, just clicking sound from underneath the steering wheel. also, the icons on the dashboard blink, turn on and off, car graphic in the middle is partially faded. the trunk will not open. also, key gets stacked in, took my five minutes to get it out. not sure what is going on.

I have a problem with my dash on a 13 ES. There was a shiny spot in the middle of the dash, so I took some Dawn dish washing liquid and a micro fiber towel and gently tried to remove the shiny spot. Well, after I wiped it with clean water, it dried as a whitish spot now, as if some of the dye came off! Any remedy for this mistake I did?

How difficult is it to change the plugs in a ES 350? And can you change the back ones with out removing anything? And what number spark plugs are in the back (1,3,5 or 2,4,6)?

I had my 25,000 service done while my '08 LS460 was in for the VSR. Now about 1000 miles later, I am getting the "Change Oil Soon" message on start up. I assume the dealer did not reset the system after the oil change.
Can I reset the oil change warning now or do I have to wait until the yellow warning light comes on steady?

I just completed a front brake job on a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan, installing new rotors and pads. Right front rotor and pad installation went perfectly. Left front - I heard a faint "hiss" as I compressed the caliper piston using a c clamp. In addition, as I placed the new inner pad against the caliper/piston, I noticed that the piston had become slightly "uncompressed," meaning it moved back out a little bit on its own. I compressed it again with a c clamp and had to rush to get the caliper back in place with the new pads in place before the piston SLOWLY worked itself back out and I wouldn't be able to fit the caliper around the new rotors and pads. I completed the brake job, pumped the brakes, and took it for a ride - all seems fine. The pedal is not spongy and it does not travel all the way to the floor.
Do I have anything to worry about? This is my 6th brake job in total. This is my first brake job on this vehicle. The slight hiss and the fact that the caliper piston did not stay seated after I compressed it bothers me.

I am a new owner of a 2007 LS. Recently got the oil changed. 2 weeks later I get the message on my dashboard that the oil needs to be changed. I looked at the maintenance reminders on the screen and deleted anything about oil changes. But the message will not go away - stays on all the time. What is causing this and how do I get rid of it?

My 07 GS350 for the second time, gave me a low oil warning light. the car has 114k and had the cam TSB work done. The first time I had low oil was about 2,300 miles ago when my alternator started burning. Got that replaced along with a oil change,brakes, coolant flush and belt change (i know i know I got raped by the dealer). Last night driving to the gas station with car almost on E the low oil warning came on again..I always have them put 5W-30 synthetic but during my last oil change they put in 5w-20. I don't think that this would do anything however. Not due for an oil change. I spent about $1200 on the car in January to fix the previously mentioned issues. I love my GS and do not want to get rid of her.What are my options? What could be wrong?

I just recently upgraded to a 2007 LS460 from a 2001 GS300 (rear-ended and totalled in an accident). Anyway, I have it for almost a month now, just took it to Firestone Auto Care for a full synthetic oil change for the very first time. I also purchased the life-time alignment and rotated the tires. Last night when I put it in Park, it started to shake pretty badly. I took it to them this morning, but it didn't reproduce the obvious shake so they said bring it back if I feel it again. What could have caused this? The oil change? The alignment? Or could it possibly be the tire rotation? I also notice that the ride is not as smooth and quiet anymore when I'm driving. I can hear the engine bay swirling about, is this normal? I swear I didn't hear that before. Also, my front passenger seat seems to vibrate more than my driver seat.

I managed to scratch the air bag while making a turn somehow . Must be a curse of some sort as I was wearing a newly acquired Submariner that day, Father's Day I might add. The scratch is right on top of the air bag cover and is about an inch long.
Is it possible to change the cover alone? Or is it the whole air bag ? Anything I can do to smoothie the scratch out so it's less visible? I can try to forget it , but is hard when it's right there in front of you.

I had my starter replaced today and now am hearing some weird rattling sounds coming from front tires. Do you need to remove any of the tires to get to the starter? I thought I read that somewhere.

Only had my 2011 LS about a month now.
Other cars I have seen will allow you to use the remote and close all windows and moon roof. Looking at the LS460 manual it looks like the dealer can program our remote to open the windows and moon roof with the remote. But it does not say anything about closing.
Also a question on the Navigation. Can you change the default screen to the Information screen? Mine always goes straight to the map when I start up. Could not find a place to change it.
