View 12 RepliesI parked my car last night in front of the house at 11:30pm last night. The car has not been driven since. At around 1pm the next day my car alarm went off and I went to shut it off and noticed very minor misty smoke coming out of the hood by the windshield. I opened the hood and could smell electrical smoke. I could not find any noticeable damage. Checked fuses and relays. Does not seem to be a problem. However when I get close to the fuse and relay panel under the hood I could hear a clicking and very distant occasional hiss sound. I tried to start the car and everything seem to work but when I push the start button nothing. At this point I disconnected the battery. I called lexus and the rep said he had seen this before and indicated that it is probably a ground or something that corroded and shorted out.
View 5 RepliesI am having a problem with rough starts/ normal starts. This issue is intermittent. Once in a while when turning on the car I'll get white smoke and a pop noise from under the hood on the driver side. It smells electrical in nature. Other times like 80% of the time it starts normal. Also I have an issue with some of the cluster panel being lit while other are dimmed slightly. What is the cause of this problem? Where should I start to look to fix these issues? 2001 Impala LS 3.8L .........
View 4 RepliesI have a 2007 Honda Odyssey touring model. Recently I had it serviced at the Honda dealership. In addition to my requested front end alignment and oil and filter change, they talked me into a radiator flush, fuel inj. service, air filter replacements and battery service. I drove the car home after wards even filling up with gas before going home. This drive was about 55 miles. I never noticed any problems. The next day, I left for Montghomery AL towing a trailer with a motorcycle trike on it. We stopped for lunch and continued. The car suddenly started making a grinding noise from engine compartment and suddenly white smoke started coming out from the hood. I immediately pulled over and we got out of the car for fear of fire. This was the first time I had any indication of a problem.
After a short time, I opened the hood to see what was wrong and noticed that the radiator cap was sitting upside down next to opening. I had the vehicle towed to Chattanooga where I was told there was serious damage to the engine. I had them repair it (they were an AAA approved towing and repair shop). I also took pictures of the engine compartment. I went back to the dealership and asked to be reembursed for my expenses and the cost of repairs and the owner refused. He said he didn't believe they left the cap off and since he started out in the service department he didn't believe the car could even go that far without overheating. My question is: Is it possible for a 2007 Honda Odyssey to travel approximately 220 miles over two days before overheating and wrecking the engine if the radiator cap was left off and/or if no fluid was even added and the radiator cap was left off?
I have a 2009 lexus es 350. Its my baby since new. I have around 75,000 miles on it. Recently when I start the vehicle I noticed a heavier than usual exhaust smell, with some very very light white exhaust. The car seems to drive fine in every way.
View 2 RepliesToday morning all of a sudden windshield fluid refused to come out of both outlets in my ES350 Year 2007. it happened first time. all i see are few drops coming out of outlet holes but they are not sprayed on windshield at all. I tried to see if there is any ice blocking it but it looks good.
Temperature for last few nights is freezing cold around -25C (-9 F). I always use the proper windshield fluid and never use water.
I just bought a 2008 Lexus ES350 with 79,000km. I noticed a lot of white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe at the start, and even after 25 mins of city driving (although less smoke). Temperature outside was 12-17C. I worry I might have a damaged engine gasket or worse. Took the car to Service at Lexus, and it passed a combustion leak test and a misfire counts test; they recommended 'good highway drive to clear exhaust'.

View 5 RepliesI went to dinner tonight and on the way home I noticed white smoke, coming from pipes. It's 42 degrees outside. I didn't notice any from any cars I saw beside me. I saw it when I got home. It didn't have any smell to it at all. It just felt warm. My girl friends car was not making any smoke either. I have never seen any during the day when it was warmer out.
View 12 RepliesThree weeks ago got in the car, started it and it immediately began to vibrate with high revs and white smoke pouring out and would not stop. Turned it off and restarted it with same results. Then I drove it around the block and it finally stopped. This has not occurred since. Took it to dealer and they could find anything wrong, since not any of the warning lights came on during this occurrence.
It is a 2008 LS with just 38,000 miles on it.
2006 overheats and starts blowing white smoke, smells like antifreeze, added 2 gals of water to make it 1 mile home. Smokes on the way @195 temp and when I shut it off it smokes out tailpipe for another 3 min. Smells like the head gaskets just went, what should I check? The eot and ect have been 10 deg or less.
This has 225,000 miles on it ran great before this, so would it be stupid too not get a redone set of heads while I'm doing the gaskets and studs?
I was thinking of getting heads from here, UCF Machine Shop - Precision machining, engine rebuilding and more. Cummins + Ford Rebuild Specialist. And a Sinister Diesel Complete Solution For Ford Powerstroke 2003-2007 6.0L. Are these the right places to deal with or should I look elsewhere?
I need to replace the original driver side HID bulb on my '07 ES350. I intend on doing this myself. I found the thread that listed detailed steps which I'm sure will be very useful.
Any tips as far as getting to the actual bulb? It looks pretty cramped in that area.
I have the adaptive headlights that turn with the steering wheel. Any special steps needed for this headlight?
I have a small oil leak on the car. I took it today to Lexus to get them do a quick check and it's coming from the back of the engine near the top on the right side. What gaskets are in that area?
The car has already had the crank seal and timing cover gaskets replaced at 31,000km.
The car has 60,000km on it now. Also, any common problems with the ES350 to do with oil leaks?
About 3 months ago I noticed at times my Heat would blow out cool air. This would happen mostly when I was sitting idle or in traffic in a "stop n go" situation. I did some research and found out that my Coolant was on the low end. I bought the Pink Coolant from the Lexus dealer and filled up.
I checked the levels again a few days later and it was low again. So I topped off again and looked for any puddles underneath the car when sitting, I paid attention to any smells, and looked to see if I was blowing white smoke out of my exhaust. NOTHING! My indicator stays on the middle range and never runs cold or hot.
I topped off after seeing that it was low again and didn't have to put as much in there, but it definitely was low again. It's now been about 2 weeks and it's still at the same spot (near the low indicator) but it doesn't seem like it's getting any lower. I have done more research and I cannot find any issues with the 2008 LS460's having issues with head gaskets or coolant issues.
I recently had my bumper replaced at the Lexus dealer Auto Shop because of a pothole I ran over that dinged it (also bent my rim)....I know this might not have anything to do with it but I thought I would add this tid bit since I didn't notice the issue until I got it back from them! I'm just really at a loss
I've got this weird problem , it started a month ago. Sometimes I would drive for half a hour, park the car, stop then engine and some white smoke comes out of the hood after a few seconds. But sometimes I can drive the same amount of time, park, stop the engine but no white smoke.
The only time I did notice it happening is when my temperature gauge isn't working properly , sometimes it will give the right reading (which is right on the middle) and while driving it will drop to 0. Also sometimes there is a smell of rubber burning I think (Doing my best here). But I've checked Google for people with my problem but all I read is either people with tail pipes issues or smoke directly in the drivers cabin. My white smoke is only when I kill the engine. There is no smoke coming out of the tail pipe nor in my cabin. Only a rubber burn kind of smell.
My wife just sent me a text saying she noticed her car (2005 Elantra GT, auto, 140k) making a chugging sound and then saw white smoke coming from under the hood on her way to class.
I'm at work, so I'm trying to pinpoint the problem from my office, but I'm guessing the white smoke is the result of a coolant leak? Bad seal somewhere? What would cause the chugging that's related to a coolant leak? Or maybe it's not coolant-related at all.
Yesterday I made a 3 hour round trip with my car, and on the last leg coming back into town, I noticed my check engine light came on, and I saw white smoke coming from underneath the hood of my car, along with a burning smell. Luckily I was able to make it home just fine. I've googled this issue, some people have suggested coolant leak.
Also, I checked the oil levels today and they appeared to be slightly below the lowest level tick, which could be why it was having issues yesterday. Last time I got an oil change was November of 2015. I'm surprised it's this low considering I normally don't commute farther than a couple miles each day.
I have an '07 ES350 with the factory HID headlights. The driver side headlight will start to flicker a few minutes after being turned on and then eventually turn off. Turning the headlights switch off and then back on will turn this headlight back on but it will start to flicker again after a few minutes.
I had this problem last year with the same headlight and took it to the dealer who replaced the HID bulb but now it's back again. I've also noticed it seems to occur during the cold winter months and not so much during warmer weather.
The passenger side HID works fine with no problems. Perhaps it's a loose wiring connection but I'm not sure if this is something that can be checked without taking the entire HID assembly apart.
I just bought a 2007 Lexus ES 350 last month with 40k miles and I LOVE the car. I took it in for it's first oil change today at the dealership and they found a leak in the passenger side axle. There was grease all over the place and they told me I needed a new axle. They mentioned it looked like the damage was pretty recent. There is a remanufactured Lexus part they offered for $300. If I let them replace it, the total including an alignment will cost me $650. My question is.... Can I buy the part and replace it myself, then get the alignment done at the dealer to avoid all the labor fees. I consider myself mechanically inclined. Have done my own fair share of maintenance work from oil changes to valve cover gasket replacements.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2007 Honda Fit. It is leaking under the hood. I have checked all the fluid levels and they are all within recommended levels. The air conditioning works fine and cools quickly. The problem is when the ac is running and I come to a stop the engine bogs. It almost feels like the automatic trans is slipping and causing the engine to jerk. However the tach doesn't move, so it leads me to believe it is not in the engine. On a fluke chance we turned the ac off at stops and the problem stopped. The car is also leaving "oil" stains on the drive way. It is not engine oil because that is full. So my question is this.......could it be the compressor that is leaking? And if not, what else could it be?
View 8 RepliesI drive a 2004 Hyundai sonata. Last time i had an oil change they told me there is a small oil leak. I have yet to fix the leak due to lack of funds. I drove to work today and a co worker noticed after i got out of the vehicle that there was white smoke coming from the hood. I have checked my oil and my coolant and both seem to be fine. I have not checked the resivour yet( should i? ) My question is do you think the oil leak is what is causing the white smoke along with a slight burning smell? Or possibly another issue? I am having it check this weekend however until then i wondered what i could do to avoid overheating if you think that may be the cause of the smoke as well?
