View 1 RepliesLast had the engine oil changed by the dealer awhile back on my 2013 RX 350. went to check the engine oil today and lo and behold I cannot pull out the engine oil dipstick. I feel that if I pull any harder I'll pull the handle off.
View 14 RepliesI purchased a 2008 LS460 off a lease last summer at 28,000 miles. I had an oil change at 36,000 miles this summer (with one oil change in between). At approx 40,000 miles my oil light came on and after checking the dipstick it was totally dry. It took 2.5 quarts to fill it up. I immediately brought it to my local Lexus dealer. After topping it off they stated they wanted to do a "consumption test" where I drive 1,000 to 1,500 miles and then check the oil level. After 1,400 miles the dipstick looked way down to me (under the lower indicator on the dipstick), but Lexus said it was .4 quarts down and "totally normal consumption." I complained, and we re-performed the test. I had it in there today after 800 miles and the dipstick was less halfway between the full and low on the dipstick. The "master" mechanic again says it is .4 quarts down and "normal oil consumption." If it's .4 down at 800 miles, isn't it gonna be 2 quarts down at 5,000 miles?
View 14 RepliesI have a 2010 rx350 and had a big oil leak recently because the car shop didn't install correctly the oil filter seals. It didn't leak right away and my wife drove till the check engine light came on, but it was late... no oil in the dipstick... I think no oil at all but the car didn't display low oil level warning. only a beep when i turned the steering wheel.
I had it towed and luckily my wife stopped the car when the light came on, no harm done the mechanic said. But I think it has less power and the engine noise is a little louder than before..., so maybe the engine has a Little wear. but there is no smoke. Should I continue to use the same thin oil.. 0w20. or use a thick like 5w30??
My wife drives an 07 camry; 4 cyl/auto. the transmission has a dipstick so I can check it, and I can see it is discolored. the car has 76kmi on it. she just drives it back and forth to work; no abuse, no start/stop, just highway and 45mph roads.
I am going to change the trans oil. I see on the dipstick it take Toyota WS fluid. I'll buy it at the dealer to be safe.
do I *really* need to drop the pan and change the filter? I have a fluid evacuater, and could suck it right out the dipstick, or I can pull the pan plug.
Is the dealer going to sell me a filter and pan gasket? I have read that many dealers wont even sell me the parts.
I have a 2007 accent. I just changed the oil and filter. I typically don't look at the dipstick after I change the oil but this time I did. The dipstick is ready a good 1/4 inch over full after the change. I started the car and let it run for a while and it still reads the same.
I don't see how I put too much oil in, but I am paranoid that I did. Is it typical for this model to read a little over full on the dipstick?
2007 Jeep Liberty Can't get the oil dipstick back into the tube! Goes in about 3/4 of the way and jams - feels like it's hanging up on something. This is what I did: pulled it out, wiped it off, slipped it back in, pulled it out again to check the oil. Now it won't go back in. (No - I didn't put anything else down there!) The dipstick has this little twisty bit at the end - is there a valve in the tube it's supposed to slip through? This is my only car and I travel to work. Can I drive it without a dipstick?
View 19 RepliesI'm noticing more and more on the highway when i accelerate that my car seems to pull to one side then when it shifts it snaps back. I'm not really sure if i'm even describing a transmission issue or a power steering issue. Basically, it just seems to pull and snap back fairly strongly, enough to cause a slight swerve as it shifts during acceleration. (No error codes or check engine lights)
View 1 RepliesI'm on my way into work, but this morning I went to open one of my rear passenger doors and the handle just pulls freely. Door is unlocked and opened fine from inside.. what could this be, and is it something I can repair fairly easily, or might it be under warranty as I have the warranty still..this a common problem, seems unusual to me...
View 1 RepliesI am checking the tranny fluid level in my daughter's 2007 4 cyl Camry tomorrow.
This tranny has the dipstick and each time we try to check the fluid level with the dip stick we are not sure if we are getting a good reading or not.
What's the trick to it. Should the tranny fluid be at a certain temp before checking? I don't have the manual with me so I'm trying to find the procedure.
My husband checked my oil and the dipstick was bone dry. I took it to the dealership; they immediately gave me a loaner car, and fortunately I still have 2 months left on the GM engine/power train warranty. The last oil change was only 4,000 miles ago. My questions: Why didn't any warning lights go on? Why does the indicator show that there is 32% oil remaining? Where did the oil go? The dealership is open only for 1/2 day (Saturday) and I may not get an answer from them until Monday.
View 19 RepliesI have 2010 Camry Le 2.5l with 39600 miles on it. Bought used from my uncle. The car is pretty good but I don't like the nature of new 6 speed transmission. Its always downshifting and I can feel the drag feels like car is braking by it self. Is this transmission designed to do that? In my previous thread I post the same issue and got reply that I will get used to it but I already driven this car almost 2 months but I am not used to that drag/pull back feeling when ever I take my foot off the gas pedal. Is there any solution for this drag/pull feel?
View 8 RepliesAbout 6 months ago, I bought a 2010 Prius III. Has about 108,000 miles. I had my 100k mile service done a couple weeks ago, and since then, he's been running a little off. When I am around 30-35mph, right before the gas engine kicks in, he starts to stutter. It's faint, but I can feel the slight vibration, almost pull, like it needs more power to keep going. Yesterday, while I was waiting in line to leave a parking lot, the engine turned off as usual, but when it started back up to charge the battery, it sounded like the RPMS were up and down, and he was struggling to keep himself on. The cabin seems louder than normal, too. To add to that, the heat doesn't seem to be working properly. When I put my hands to the vent, even at 75 degrees, the air feels room temp and is chilly by the time it reaches me. I checked the coolant level and it was fine. He also has a lot of ticking - particularly around startup and after I shut him off. Is that normal?
View 19 RepliesIt needs to be replaced. I have to have it done soon. I have never had this happen to any other vehicle, and am wondering if this is an issue with these vehicles?
View 9 RepliesI have a F-150 5.4 automattic 07 model and I need to add some tranny oil,I can't see on dipstick or in book what oil I need,(4) (5)??? I still can't see any markings on dipstick, where would I see a 4 or 5 on dipstick??
View 2 RepliesHave a 2007 Sonata (2.4 L inline 4) and been plagued with rough/shaking car when initially started and pull to stop, and generally goes away when fully warmed up. Recently had oil change and service area switched me to a lower viscosity oil (5W30 to 5W20) and checked a solenoid and it was fine. Also did a fuel service treatment I suppose in an attempt to flush out stuff........I was a little surprised he didn't pursue talking about tuning up aspects but maybe none of those codes flashed......a repeating code I do have is Code 11.........though I confess when the codes refer to emission stuff I sort of ignore them.......
View 12 RepliesWhen I brake hard. My truck wants to veer right. It drives straight otherwise.
I recently had my front shock replaced and prior tp that my truck did the same thing, although it was much worse since my left front shock was leaking. Originally I thought it was pulling because of the bad shock but now that thet've been replaced I am not to sure.
Alignment issue or something else entirely? Coud bad rear shocks cause the issue?
I have 2007 sport trac 4.0 liter V6. I have noticed for the past week or so that I have antifreeze leaking from the bottom of the radiator and I had to add some coolant to it the other day(1/2 gallon). I know it is the radiator leaking and not the overflow so I am going to go head and order me a radiator and change it. I have read that some of the replacement radiators was not lasting but about a year before they leaked. From what I have read on the internet a lot of ford owners is having this same problem with the radiator leaking at around 60,000 miles. Also there is no transmission dip stick to check the fluid, will I lose enough fluid that it hurt the transmission. I have just had the 60,000 mile transmission service done.
View 9 RepliesI just changed out my leaking transmission pan this weekend. Drain plug was stripped and leaking.
I put 3.5 quarts in and now I am getting inconsistent oil levels on the dipstick. Last night it was at exactly the correct level. Today it was low.
My dipstick is bent up and goes in hard. Could the dipstick be giving a bad reading? Should I buy a new one?
Btw I check for leaks and the pan and gasket look perfect..
Engine oil smells like gas when I pulled the dipstick today. I wiped it off and smelled the towel and yup... Its the smell of gas.
My '10 is 44,000 miles would warranty fix this?
So I have been told I need to have the transmission fluid changed in my GX470 by the dealer. They have said that off and on when I take it in for an oil change or some other services since 60K miles. I have never felt a difference in the transmission performance and have had no 'quirks' with it like I have had with other cars when the trans fluid is nearing the end of its useful life.
So I am concerned that since it is a 'sealed' unit that has no dipstick to check the fluid condition, they have a 'safe' way to tell me I need an expensive service when I really do not.
I am not afraid to work on my cars (I used to work on my cars including my built up rotary with a street port) but have just been too busy to do that stuff for the past 15+ years and am starting to get back into maintaining my own cars again.
