I just changed to winter tires on my '09 ES350 and noticed that the strut is only about an 1.5" directly above the inside edge of the tire. See the photo, is this normal. FYI, winter tire is 17" and all specs are identical to the original.
View 1 RepliesI have a broken rear strut on my 2009 LS 460 with 27000 miles. First noticed it about 25000 but dealer said it was only the cold weather and all was fine. I had a mechanic friend ride with me and he said I had a broken part in the rear suspension. Back to the dealer and this time they test drove it and diagnosed the broken rear strut. The tech told me that they had recently seen several LS 460's with the same problem. The broken strut causes handling problems and I am reluctant to drive at highway speeds.
The dealer (and all the other dealers I called) said that there are no parts available for the repair and one told me that the last strut had to be brought from Japan.
Our 2009 LS trunk will not close, seems the power is not working it. Cannot find fuse box for it.
View 1 RepliesI have developed a rattle in the right rear which appears to be coming from the rear strut. It is more pronounced at lower speeds, especially over potholes, and disappears completely at highway speed.
I'm thinking it may be a loose strut nut or housing assembly and want to inspect the strut. Is there a simple way to remove the back seat to allow access to the rear struts? 2007 ES350 ....
I am driving a 2007 Lexus LS. Yesterday, the battery died, so I had to jump the car.
The battery was easily jumped, but now the trunk of the car will not close. I am able to push it all the way down, but the latch will not grab and attach.
Also, the automatic trunk button does not work either. When I press the button, I can hear a "click", but nothing happens.
My wife has a 2007 LS460. Some dummy at a big box store tied down the trunk to get a chair home by threading rope through the latch mechanism. Needless to say, the trunk will not close. Not with the button or manually. I tried the disconnect battery thing. Nothing. The lid goes all the way down.
View 14 RepliesOK, Two days ago, at random, my lock stuck and would not open. I looked on this site and the best solution was to try to reset by disconnecting the battery. However, yesterday before I could get home and try it, the trunk starting opening and would not shut.
This morning I did the battery d/c. I notice the latch would pull the trunk down and then release several times. It appears about 5 times and then stopped in the open position. I put a screwdriver in the latch hook to see if that would stop the latch. It would not. I did the battery d/c about 5 times and no avail. I also checked the emergency pull inside the trunk and it is fine. I checked the latch release inside the car as well as in the glove box and they both appear to be in good working order.
So, I am led to believe I have either a wiring harness or a motor problem. I am leaning to the wiring harness because the pull down motor for the soft close is also not working.
The new rx350 can open and close the trunk with a button...why not the ls460? I'm wondering if anyone tapped the switch in the rear and run the wire to the front & put a switch there so we can close it from inside. Sometimes we accidentally open the trunk and have to run out to close it.
View 14 RepliesMy old LS430 allowed me to close the mirrors when I turned off the car. My 2007 only lets me close the mirrors when I lock the car outside. Can these mirrors be reprogrammed to close when I shut my car off like my 2005 LS430 did?
View 9 RepliesThe other day I got out of the car and forgot to close the windows. So I tried to hold the key fob LOCK button to close them. Nothing. Yet holding the UNLOCK will OPEN them? Now how often will someone want to OPEN windows with the FOB versus close? Put another way, I am assuming that there IS a definitive way to use the FOB to CLOSE the windows/roof but I can't figure it out.
As an aside, I guess I a bit "slow". I JUST figured out, after almost 2 years of ownership, that the CD player will read MP3 files...hundreds on 1 disc versus about 20 song on an old style CD.
I just picked up 2007 LS460. I used the remote to open the trunk, but can't use it to close the trunk. Can only close by pressing the button on the trunk to close. When i press close on the remote, it beeps, but does not do anything.

Why i dont hear the beeping sound when i am parking my car? i just bought the car 3 days ago and have read the manual and did a forum search. I have pressed the "hold" button on the steering wheel and went to the display to make sure the parking assist volume is not at zero. however, WHY can't i hear the beep sound as i get close to objects? i would like to hear it since i am still getting used to the size of this vehicle.

Other cars I have seen will allow you to use the remote and close all windows and moon roof. Looking at the LS460 manual it looks like the dealer can program our remote to open the windows and moon roof with the remote. But it does not say anything about closing.
Also a question on the Navigation. Can you change the default screen to the Information screen? Mine always goes straight to the map when I start up. Could not find a place to change it.
The tire pressure light just came on in a 5 year old tire that I decided to put on the ES350.
The two front tires are 36 lbs, two rear were 32, I adjusted them all to be around 32 and the light is still on, including the spare tire in the trunk.
I decided to put this tire on because it has much better tread than the last. Regardless, I don't know why the light is on.
How to re-set the tire inflation indicator. I just had the tires rotated and properly inflated but the light is still on.

This fall, the light came back on, again the pressures were ok so the sensor must be sensitive to temp. What corrective action is suggested ?
View 5 RepliesI recently got a set of staggered IS 350 wheels, and while I realize it's not ideal , my father wants to know if they will fit his 2012 ES350 ? The front tires I'm having put on are 225 / 45 / 18, but the tears are still good and are 255 / 40 / 18. Will the 255 fit in the back without rubbing issues.
So, I just went ahead and put the wheel on. The stats are 18x8.5, +45 offset, and 255/40/18.
Initially the tire rubbed while driving, the wheel was able to rotate, but not without the rotating rub noise against the strut. So then I put on a 5mm spacer I had and it was perfect.
Just got a set of Michelins and love them. I have been driving on them at 36 psi cold and 40 warm but was a bit concerned since I have always run my 22s at 41 cold and about 44 - 45 psi warm so I took the car in for a quick air check. The techs at the shop said I should do 40 cold at 44 warm to support the weight of the car. ( T they actually calculated it based on the weight of the car and load rating s on the tire). After I filled up I just feel liek the car is harsher and noisier . Its odd because I never noticed that much of a differnece with my other tires.
Just wanted to see what ranges others are running on their LS460s with aftermarket 22" wheels.
