2002 LS V8 162K Miles. Its been sitting in the garage for 10 days. ...went on vacation. Started her up and let it idle down. Shifted to reverse and transmission shift error displayed. Went back to P. Waited a minute. Shifted again and she was hard jumping into the gears. The error went away. Drove it around and it seems to shift fine. Opinions?
View 4 RepliesJust got a new GTI two weeks ago, and wow. I love it. It's like a dream come true to me to own a GTI. It's everything I've imagined and more. Anyways, while driving my girlfriend to the store last night I received the "Transmission error: Cannot engage reverse" error while driving down the highway (and obviously not trying to go into reverse). I have seen a few others with 2015 GTIs that have the DSG transmission with the same issue. Unfortunately my night ended in me limping the car home, and having it towed to the dealership today. Sadly the car only has 2800 miles on it, and it's my baby. Even the girlfriend says I love it more than her.
Now my question is, how was it fixed? Total replacement of transmission? Electronics issue? As you can imagine, I am super bummed about this. I can honestly say, 75% of the time I drive the car in manual mode, and very rarely take it over 4k RPM and have never redlined the thing. My mother and my girlfriend insist that I got this transmission error by driving an automatic in manual mode so much, however Volkswagen and the dealership insist that driving the car this way will do no harm whatsoever to the transmission.
So again, my question is, how is this issue resolved? Is driving my car this way really not good for it? Until then, I will be driving around this rental Passat, that feels like a boat compared to my GTI. But the sunroof and leather seats are pretty nice.
Ever since I've been using my SD card to play music, I have been getting an intermittent error that reads something like "Error reading SD Card" (I can't recall the exact wording). It seems to happen randomly, and sometimes I have to take out / reinsert the SD card a bunch of times before it reads it again...starts playing music for awhile...then gives me the error again.
It was mildly irritating at first, but now it seems to be happening more frequently and is downright maddening. Here are the details:
I have a 2011 GTI with the Premium stereo HU (what is that...the RDS-510?)
I am using a 16gb SDHC class 2 card
The error happens mid-song...not at the beginning or end of a song (so I don't think it's a particular file/s that is screwing things up)
MFI displayed a check lights error. Front drivers headlight was out. Started car 2 hours later and headlight worked fine. Seems strange.
View 3 RepliesFor the last 3 months I've been bringing in my vehicle in and out of the VW dealership trying to find out why once in a while when I turn off my my vehicle the accessory part turns back on by its self and error message displaying "Error: Brakes service now!" In the middle of the cluster & then the car turns off completely. The first time I brought it to the VW dealership they called corporate and they said to change the cluster so they did. Two days after I pick up my car the error message came back on. Took it for the 2nd time and they said that it was the gateway .
And one day later after picking up my car the error message came back on again. I'm getting tired bringing in my Golf R and not fixing this issue. What it could be? Just an FYI, It is a push start. Here's a quick video link so you can see what I'm talking about [URL] ....
I ordered my IS 300h F-Sport (winter!). After five months of waiting, the car is now at the dealer. I went today to take a look and one thing is making me a little bit nervous...
The info screen said "Pop up hood error", I asked the salesman about it and said that the car needs preparation and be reset....
I want to believe it but my mind is taking my opinion that something triggered the pop up hood pedestrian protection... maybe a little hit? I don't know.... and maybe the salesman is being honest and it is normal.
The bumper is all ok, no signs of damage, (the car arrived yesterday and my girlfriend went to take a look).
I have recently purchased this 2012 Gen 3 Prius JDM imported from Japan. It is with LED parking lights and HID low beam. At day there is no issue with lights Off, even no issue on parking lights On but as soon as the headlights are turned On i get the fault indicator and some warning in Japanese language on inner screen. Apparently, all lights, on the other hand, are working fine.
When i took the car to repair shop, they installed the diagnostic computer and it showed B2430 and B2431, LED headlight RH and LH, whereas my model is with HID headlights, not LED headlights. At day its ok, i get normal info on inner info screen but at night this error triangle and error message keeps showing instead of normal info and is a cause of fear for me as well because i dont know how serious it may become.
I've got a 1994 F-150 with the 4.9 straight six. The transmission is the E40D.
In drive, it shifts silky smooth. In reverse, it acts like it's bogging down the engine.
I only recently got the truck. It's had a fluid and filter change, and is full on the stick when hot.
I didn't notice this problem until I replaced the engine thermostat. It was stuck open, so I replaced it with a 195 degree Stant unit.
Should I let the engine control computer re-learn this engine? I've fixed bad vacuum lines, too.
I've heard tales about the electronic transmissions. This one has 145K on it.
The OEM DVD player in my '04 started having problems with occasionally displaying a disc format error across the screen. The movie usually still plays, but the lettering is stays on the screen. If you go back through the menus it will sometimes go away or you just have to eject and reload the DVD. Now it does it pretty much everytime we turn the player on.
View 8 RepliesI have a 08 Subaru 2.5i Impreza and until now I thought this was a fluke but it is happening more frequently this week.When I park my car I engage the the parking brake and put the shifter into first gear, turn the car off ... etc... When I go back to the car I depress the clutch, start the car, apply the brake and disengage the parking brake. I then proceed to shift to reverse to back out of my parking spot, here is where the problem lays. More often then not the car shifts to reverse and I am on my way but every so often the shifter refuses to go into reverse until I release and depress the clutch pedal. After that it drops into reverse and away I go.

View 1 RepliesBought a 2003 golf gti 1.8t as kind of a project. Car had no interior no exhaust and some shifting issues. To fix the shifting issues rather than replacing solenoids I just got a rebuilt valve body. After installation the car still doesn't shift from 1st to second properly and now I don't have reverse. (It's an 09a transmission)
View 1 RepliesI just recently bought a 95 F150 with a 351. The truck has high mileage, about 190k, and I am not sure how long the transmission has left. It rides smooth down the road, but when I put the truck into reverse it hesitates for a moment then makes a loud clunking sound(as if a door is being slammed) and then jerks into gear. The reverse works great at the moment though. Should I be worried, is there anything I can do to fix this?

This message displays on and off about every other day. Yesterday, I hooked an OBD2 scanner up and discovered the following error code history:
P0171 : System Too Lean Bank 1
P0174 : System Too Lean Bank 2
P0022 : "A" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Retarded Bank 2
P0335 : Crankshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit
P2195 : 02 Sensor Biased/Stuck Lean Bank 1 Sensor 1
Every now and then the engine will run a little rough, but usually at low RPM, and (again) not very often. The car has 166,000 miles of mostly highway driving.
I have a 97 jetta trek that is having problems. Grinding noises from transfer , no reverse, hard to shift, loud winding noise. I think it's may be the trough out baring thing from what I'm reading.
View 6 RepliesWhen backing up in reverse I come to a stop and shift into drive. About 60% of the time it slams into gear (Drive). It feels as if someone rearended me. It's a 2012 Chrysler Town and Country with 40K miles. 2 dealers worked on it, reprogramed the computer and replaced 2 seloniods and the problem is still there. What is wrong but said thats typical on that 6 speed. What to do next?
View 2 RepliesI have a 1970 f250 with a factory 390 (vin verified) and a C6, I believe the transmission was rebuilt but have no way to verify. It works fine while cold and mildly warm. Once heat soaked it is very slow to shift (going from neutral to reverse can take almost 30 sec) and leaks profusely from the front. I can not tell exactly where the leak is. Could this be a case of just having too much fluid or is there a more serious concern? The dipstick does read high but level ground in my area is hard to come by so the accuracy can be questioned. If it does have to much fluid, do I just drain the pan, re-install and let it run till hot and replace fluid as needed or should I drain and replace with 3 qrts prior to starting?
View 7 RepliesI have a 95 F250 with 7.5 and E4OD. I was towing my Jeep and trailer out for the weekend a few months back (its been parked since) and heard some noise coming from the trailer. So at a stop light I put it in park with the engine running for a second, went to put it back into drive and it hasn't gone back into drive since. Reverse works perfectly. Fortunately I was able to back up onto the center divide, unload my Jeep and back the truck onto the trailer and tow home with my buddies Chevy. Anyways, its been dead since. Where I can start to look? None of the forward gears work at all.
View 13 RepliesSo when I got my car a couple months ago there was this problem where the backup camera wouldn't come on every now and then when I shifted into reverse so I decided to get it fixed under warranty. the dealership said the problem had to do with the whole infotainment system or something so they gave me a whole new center console and navigation screen for some reason but after I got my car back a couple days ago it was working fine up until today where the back up camera won't even come on at all anymore. I've driven the car about 5 different times today and the backup camera never came on once.
View 3 RepliesAny way to adjust how much the outside mirrors tilt down when the car is shifted into reverse? I have looked in the Owners Manual and I can't find anything that addresses this. I feel like there must be some adjustment since sometimes the mirrors tilt a lot and sometimes they tilt just a little.
I have tried shifting the car into reverse and letting the mirrors tilt and then adjusting the mirrors with the adjustment controls to the preferred tilt angle, but they didn't retain the memory and went back to the previous tilt settings.
I have a 2000 Ford Explorer XLT 4x4, powered by the 4.0L SOHC V6 engine, with a 5R55E transmission. It now has this issue of stalling and dying when shifted from park to reverse. This can be prevented by applying the gas immediately after shifting, however, my wife cannot do this. (she is very temperamental, and doesn't remember that this issue occurs decently often now, so if it happens once, she bites my head off because I haven't fixed this issue yet) I do not see this as the valve body issue, because the tranny shifts fine, and I have engine braking ability, still. What causes this, and what I can do to fix it?
