View 2 RepliesI have been getting some knocking the under most any loads . I do not have any codes. I tried premium gas and that did not make any difference. If this is not fixed what issues can this cause? What should I look for do get this fixed?
View 14 RepliesI drive a 2012 SE V6 with 1600 km in it. Literally brand new car, two days ago I noticed a faint knock when driving normally over medium sized bumps in the road. Sound seems like it is coming from the front drivers side. It's not my first time around the block and wonder if it's suspension related or steering related. It's going to the dealer tomorrow...
View 14 RepliesI have an 06 with 105000 miles. Since about 95000, I've been starting to get what sounds like a fuel knock with medium-high load on the engine. Thought it was carbon at first, but a few applications of Techron didn't clear it. Higher octane does seem to solve it.
Do the knock sensors go bad on a Prius? What's the proper way to diagnose the knock sensor on a Prius? (can't exactly bang on the block with a wrench at idle and listen for fuel adjustments on a car that doesn't idle).
I recently started having a very loud knocking noise in my engine and I can't place it. Mostly due to my lack of car knowledge I can only trouble shoot so far. The following conditions are what I can really only go from:.
- when I'm in park or neutral the knocking happens in about 5 beats per second.
- while idling in gear it almost goes away.
- while driving it increases in frequency and intensity the higher the rpms, until it switches gears, then its dull until I get closer to topping out another gear.
- No real functionality of the car has changed.
- I tried doing a mild brake torque, in both drive and reverse, and the engine did not move.
- the knock is pretty hard to locate exactly but seems to come from the passenger side.
I'm hoping it's not to serious because I just filled the gas tank.
When I shift the car to drive it revs up to 3 or 4 rpms but only goes about 10 to 15 mph. It doesn't produce power like it should.
View 1 Replies1996 GMC Jimmy SLS. I've looked at the "starting issue" threads in this forum but none are quite the same as mine. When you initially try to start the Jimmy (cold or warm), it seems to just crank for 20-30 seconds before it even tries to fire. New plugs, cap, rotor, wires. Battery is 2 months old, and so is the alternator. What about the relays or starter. It's not an intermittent problem either. This happens EVERY time you start the vehicle. The jimmy sat for a good while before we bought it, but would that cause the starting issue? It seems to run fine after it starts, but hesitates (stumbles)a little coming up off idle when its warm.
View 5 RepliesI have a 96 GMC Jimmy that will not start..... I have replaced the spider fuel injector and now I get the right fuel pressure. I have random non regular spark that is very week. I have replaced the ignition coil, spark plug wires, spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, cam sensor, the ECM, and the ignition control module. The crank sensor checked out to be good. I do not know where else to check...
View 7 RepliesThis morning, I hit the brakes medium hard and got a short metal-on-metal 'scrape' noise from the rear end. It sounded like a brake shoe to me. Later my wife was out shopping and did a 'regular' stop and got the same noise.
The car isn't driven a lot. It's just under 1.5 years old and has 5,400 miles on it. So, I'm pretty sure there isn't a lot of brake wear. Maybe a little above average from mostly city driving. I assume the rear brakes are self-adjusting. Do they make noise when they are adjusting?
I have noticed since day 1 of owning my v8, that there i a horrible sound that comes from the exhaust upon medium to heavy acceleration - a loud fluttering is the best way i can describe it. I took it to the dealer and one tech said something was definitely wrong, the other went and got a new reg off the showroom floor and demonstrated that it is common and normal. Although another new reg did the same thing, i am not convinced that this obnoxious sound is normal ...
View 17 RepliesI have the Bridgestone Turanza EL400 radials on my car and now at 8000 miles I have started hearing a noise that is hard to describe. It sounds like a singing, or medium to high pitched whine (no, it's not the transmission sound others have reported). It occurs anytime I'm above 20 MPH. I can put the car in neutral at 55 and coast and it's still there, so it's not the engine (which is idling while I'm coasting). I can't detect any noise from the engine at all at idle or at speed. I took a dealership technician on a ride and he thinks it sounds like tire noise. I have heard some complaints on one of the tire sites about this brand being noisy after a few thousand miles.
View 9 RepliesI have a 96 Plymouth voyager my husband was driving it to work and he heard a knocking sound he pulled into a gas station where he put oil in it and had to fill up on gas when he went to turn it back on it wouldn't crank over didn't even. Make a sound like it was trying to crank I know I am due for a oil change but im not that much over..
View 10 RepliesI noticed a knocking sound from my 1996 Plymouth Neon when I hit some bumps. Poked my head underneath and see what appears to be the strut loose inside the spring. I am afraid that the "Damper Shaft Nut" came undone somehow? If so, how do I remove the quick-strut? Is the spring in danger of being sprung?
View 7 RepliesSo my girlfriends Toyota RAV4 (2005) is making a medium pitched whirring noise from the passenger side of the engine compartment. (Same area where the serpentine belt and the alternator and all those goods are located.) The battery warning light is on, solid. I have not had a chance to take my DMM and check voltage but I suspect this is going to be a bad alternator since it is a noise consistent with the RPM of the vehicle and visual inspection of the belt is that it is still in one piece, not frayed, flexible, etc. I didn't rev the engine because I didn't want to freak her (the gf) out. My plan is to test voltage before she does anything rash like take it to the dealership which she is already planning on doing but the noise concerns me since noises tend to come from things that move which is probably an indication of some sort of mechanical failure and that tends to cost money. Luckily it's her car.
View 11 RepliesI have a 2016 Superduty. I was sitting still in the drive, engine running and Tx in Park. Following the manual's instructions, I put the Tx in Neutral, turned the 4x4 to 4x4 high and then to 4x4 low. I then pulled the to engage the electric locking rear diff. I put the Tx in Reverse with the foot still on the brake and then as I gradually lifted pressure off the brake pedal (I think) and started creeping, I heard a medium pitched grinding; not so much like spur, helical, or hypoid teeth grinding; more like cog gears. I stopped the truck and disengaged everything. Later in the day while on dirt I put her through her paces proper and all was fine. I guess I'd like to just know, given that this is my first 4x4 with so much electric shifting, what actually happened. If you are pretty sure of what I heard but are puzzled by the sequence, I could have the order of things a bit off as my brain was just about wiped completely free of all memory when I heard that sound so I may have the order of what I actually did, wrong.
View 4 Replies94 blazer ac fan will work on low and med but not high replaced resistor under hood but still no high speed fan?...........
View 8 RepliesI recently performed the MDI update, and now whenever I connect something to the USB, I get a "Check Medium" error message.
View 10 RepliesHad my first drive with the windows down for a long time and noticed a new medium to high pitched whine, stays relative to engine speed. Not the turbo, its much louder than that, i searched about the water pump issues and no one seemed to mention any associated noise, just coolant on the driveway. Waterpump? Alternator?
View 5 RepliesSometimes I can feel on my feet a knocking feeling like something is loose under the car coming from the front left and right wheel and back right.
View 8 RepliesI have a 92' Century w/107 K miles that has a medium rough idle. This is a summer use vehicle for me. I have done the normal maintenance on this motor w/ new plugs and a good Napa wire set. Any bad vacume lines that I can get at have been replaced including the vacume tree on top of the motor. Has anybody had coil issues or ground issues with this motor?
View 2 RepliesI put on my H&R Springs. Today was my first full day with them on and everything seemed fine. The ride is awesome - no complaints. Except, on the way home tonight in traffic I could hear a knocking noise. It seems to only happen around 30-35 mph. It doesn't produce over bumps or at highway speeds even if I hit construction. Only happens around the speeds I said and even then it comes and goes. I took a video to see if I could get it on it. You can hear it better on the video from my phone compared to the one that is uploaded to youtube. Listen carefully and you'll hear a knocking noise.
