I've got a 95 Intrepid that wont seem to change gears when I have the accelerator all the way down (from standing and passing gear). Other than that it seems ok. I want to add some Lucas. I am worried about overfilling...Lucas says a moderate overfill is ok, but I am still apprehensive.
View 2 RepliesQuestion regarding the car failing to accelerate properly that only happens just when I start driving it.
Turn on the car and go, it accelerates fine in first gear. When I switch to second gear it starts shuddering at 20mph and won't go any faster no matter how hard I push the pedal. I switchh to 3rd and its fine until I get to 30mph and then the same thing. I pull over, turn off the car, restart and it's all fine.
I drive a 2004 volkswagen polo 1.2L engine with 100,000 miles or 160k kilometres.
I can usually get up to 25mph no problem but above that and the car acts like it wants to choke out, then it doesn't want to shift gears (example the other day on a slight down hill grade and only because it was a down hill grade I got up to 50mph running around 4300rpms it wouldn't shift ). If I accelerate slowly some times it will shift then with out notice it will down shift (hard).
While in park or neutral when i step on the gas and hold it will rev up to 4000rpms then start to bog down or cut out dropping down to less then 3000rpms before i take my foot off. While the rpm's are dropping it sounds like it is starting to back fire.
There was a mil code for the fuel injectors but has not come back since i cleared it. I have change the transmission fluid and filter and replaced the crankshaft sensor.
I found a low mileage 2000 intrepid with the 2.7 liter engine from a car that was in a wreck. I would like to put this in my 2003 intrepid with a dead 2.7. Someone said that 99-01 engines can be interchanged easily but I have a 2000. The first thing I noticed is that the engine harnesses are different between the cars, so I was wondering if I change the out the harness with my 2003 harness, next I trashed my flex plate so can I use flex plate and torque converter from the 2000. Would the engine still work?

View 2 RepliesMy 2004 Intrepid with 100,100 miles runs and starts fine until a temperature change occurs. When that happens, and first starting, the engine will rev up and the check engine light will come. I don't drive it for awhile and then it starts and runs fine, but the check engine light is still on. I've changed various sensors, and the throttle body assembly. Still not fixed. What could be causing this? It has a 2.7 engine.
View 3 RepliesI just purchased 8/1/2012 a GEM of a garage kept 95 Celica Hatchback ST with 5 speed manual transmission.
The car was registered and driven until 8/2008 and garaged until 8/1/2012. The proud owner started it and drove it around the block so the car has not been completely idle for 4 years but very little miles driven. 165K miles on this baby. The car started right up and drove like a dream during my test drive and on the sweet drive home.
This morning 1st and 2nd gear acted like it was not getting enough gas (bogged down) and jerked as if I did not know how to drive a stick. But once it gets going is fine on 3rd, 4th and 5th gears. The car idles fine and accelerates fine when not in gear. I reached 80 on the interstate with no issues at all. Once at the stop light the low gear issues persist. Not clear as to what it could be.
1995 Nissan Altima with 230,000 miles stalls while driving within the first 5 minutes and could immediately restart and was fine for the next 20+ miles. Well now she stalls when I try to gas her or when she switches gears (when going from 40 mph to 45 mph) and she needs a little time to rest before she will start up again. My dad seems to think she got a little low on oil at some point and the computer is freaking out. He has already tried replacing the fuel filter. This was my first car.
View 8 RepliesHad tranny fluid and filter replaced a couple months ago. It's in a 35 foot motorhome (F53 chassis). The motorhome is within it's GCWR. Climbing a 6% grade at 3,500 rpm, little more than half throttle, like all the other climbs. 80 degrees out. Engine temp was on the letter "R" on the word "NORMAL". All of a sudden my engine redlines as if it popped into neutral. I let off, put it into neutral, and try "D" again. Nothing.
At this point it's uphill so it's naturally slowing down and I try "2". Nothing. Even slower and I try "1". Nothing. Pulling over blocking the right lane on a blind curve on a grade is scary. Had pylon cones out, waving traffic to warn them down a ways, etc.
No fluid on the ground, no slipping prior to this. I have reverse. I see no obvious linkage or electrical/wire issues underneath (from road debris, etc). It's at a shop but I want to know all I can so if they come back with something outrageous I can make a decision. I never pulled the stick, as I was coordinating traffic, highway patrol, a tow truck, etc.
I made a mistake, detached TPS from throttle, thought it was purge valve, then I put it back and today my car won't change gears, I messed something up, never had problems with my transmission. Santa fe 2003 3.5 ....
View 2 Replies,I have a 2004 C70 Volvo. One day I noticed a sizable puddle of oil underneath the car that came out of the transmission box. The car turns on fine, but when I put it in drive and press on the gas pedal, I hear the engine roar but the car doesn't move an inch. It is as if the gears were on neutral. I tried reverse and the same happens; I just hear the engine roar with no movement at all.
I asked one mechanic and they said I need a new transmission- which is very expensive- but they didn't give me an explanation. They just said 'it happens'... What is wrong specifically (just out of curiosity)? As far as I know this was a sudden problem. The car was working fine the previous day then the next day, I see the puddle of oil and the transmission doesn't feed at all.Is my only option is buying a used transmission (costs around a couple of grands)?
i wanna put a lift kit on my 87 pathfinder but i was wondering if i would have to change the gears, if so how would i change them?
View 3 RepliesI own a hyundai accent 2000 GLS, i have recently replaced the ECM wiring and a brand new ignition coil, however the engine still sputters when i try to accelerate in higher gears, my mechanic told me that the engine mounting bushes need replacement. is it one of the causes? the sparks plugs are new, fuel pump is working fine.

It's very cold here in minneapolis, (-10 F outside). Is this because of that? I started my car from my parking lot to shopping mall which is 0.5 miles apart. while coming back, this happened.
So i have this Porsche and is been passed down and how to fix it like battery and everything is nice i mean I'll work on engine next but the actual stick that changes gears can actually pop out and i mean i can still change gears it's just is there a way to make the stick stay in there.
View 7 RepliesSo my brother "learned" how to drive manual and asked if he could take my car for a spin. As we were driving he went from fifth gear (which he had prematurely switched to) to first. This occurred at about 35 or 40 mph. The car kind of jerked and a mechanical clicking could be heard. The clutch feels fine, and I can switch to all gears it seems, but when I let out the clutch, the gears won't engage, and the car can only be revved. This comes with a clanking noise.
View 10 RepliesMy standard 2002 accent is undriveable and at the mechanic right now (100,000km). For the past few weeks the car has driven very jerky. While in first and second gears if i accelerate too quickly it just jerks/slips and has very little power.
Yesterday the check engine light came on and i got codes P0300, P0302, P0303...misfire in cylinders 2 and 3. Checked this forum and decided to buy new spark plugs (last replaced plugs and wires 1.5 years ago). Got into the car and could go more than a block because it was jerking and then kept stalling. Replaced the sparkplugs and nothing changed. Had it towed to the mechanic...after a few hours he said he had cleaned the exhaust manifold and it was driving fine. I picked it up and a block away it stalled again.
The mechanic now says 3 of my fuel injectors need to be replaced and the fourth will probably go soon and it will be about $700 to fix. Does this sound right for these codes?
I called hyundai parts and they told me each injector is $236...he also told me he doubted they had to be replaced cause he has never seen an accent have fuel injectors replaced and also they rarely sell these injectors, he said it was probably something electrical.
I have found 4 injectors on ebay for $200 but is this really the problem? The mechanic says it is 100% the problem. But from reading the forum I dont think so.
Also wanted to add that i often noticed the smell of burning plastic. Smoke seems to be coming from spark plug area when i notice the smell but nothing looks burnt/melted.
I recently had some brake work done on my 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee (139k miles), and they installed a new master cylinder. The following day, I was driving (very cold these days) and noticed the car had difficulty getting into higher gears and the engine revved up but would not accelerate. I had to stop, put in reverse, and start driving again. Then, the engine light popped on (P1763 - Governor Pressure Sensor) and has remained on for three days. The car runs fine most of the time, but occasionally experience the loss of acceleration. What should I do?
